With Nigel Lappin retiring we are left with three captains (Black, Power and Brown). With a new coach coming in I wouldn't be surprised if this issue is revisited. Voss ,for one, annointed Brown as his successor and said at the time he was a supporter of the "one captain system" at the time.

Personally I don't think Brown, Black or Power can be split nor does either of them deserve being demoted. 3 captains also sit a lot better with me than 5 did initially.

Is there really any doubt as to who the real leader on the field is?

If a new coach wants one skipper, then Brown would have to be paying 1.01 to get the job and thats not a knock on Black and Power, but a reflection of the quality of Brown.

What he said.

Captain Brown has a nice ring to it:D I don't think Black or Power would see it as a demotion either.

I agree and I don't see how having multiple captains, or 3 at least, is an issue. They all have specific talents and attributes. They are all worthy. How does appointing Brown as sole captain suddenly solve our problems? I don't understand.

I can't see the likes of Voss or Hardwick being into this new age multiple captains fancy schmancy crap.

Using the KISS principle, just give it to Brown.:thumbsu:

Captain Brown for me:thumbsu:

The other natural leader of men..

Much and all as I love and respect Simon and Luke, they are not "leaders" like Vossy and Brown are.....these two just have that "certain extra something"..

I believe the Voss/Brown combination can and will lead us on that glory road again.....my wordy wordy!!:D oh the excitement of it all!!:):D

Yeah, Brown for me. But I'd still give him a kick up the bum for making the club sweat on his sig for so bloody long!! :p

Yeah Captain Brown for me too. With Lethal leaving and Brown just signing another contract, having one captain makes more sense to me.

i agree that 3 captains is much better than the previous 5 - that was a little over the top. it doesn't really bother me that brown isnt sole captain but i wouldn't be againt that idea of him being sole captain some time in the near future.

i wonder if he went to collingwood whether they would have made him captain?

Personaly, I've been disappointed with the on-field leadership (or lack of it) from all of the 'co-captains'. None of them, and I include Brown, have demonstrated the Voss-like capacity to inspire the team, or direct traffic, when things are going badly.

With the benefit if hindsight, I reckon the multiple co-captains concept is flawed because each of the co-captains is reticent to push themselves into the on-field leader's role out of fear/respect of usurping the territory of the other co-captains.

At this stage, I'd be far happier with one captain who is confident in his role.

Multiple captains - which I see as the soft option when faced with a difficult choice, could been known as the Humpty Dumpty or Tiger's Back solution

Presents problems if getting back to the old position is desired

I was going to start a 'wish list for the new coach' thread last night and my main gripe was exactly this.

PLEEEEEEEEEEASE! Whoever it is. Piss off the CoCaptain farce and have the balls to pick the man you think best encompasses the leadership mould you feel will take the lions to their next finals series. I have serious concerns that the looking 5 ways then 4 crap has been a contributing factor to our lacklustre run over the last few years.

Here Here! My thoughts exactly. I especially believe it has hurt Lukey Power. Some say it's his shoulder. I believe that's a small part and the above reason has played more of an active part in stunting his form. That and the fact he could have fairly been called a hog at a few stages this season and not in a good way. JB deserves to captain on his own and I think if he got that chance you'd see the standard of his leadership improve dramatically.
