The 3 best thing that has happened at Carlton in the last 10 years in my order of importance has been:

1. Fluking Cripps
3. Bolton getting Russell over
4. SOS building the list

Liddle has done nothing - except ride the wave of positive sentiment SOS and Bolton created into membership growth; oh and knife one of the three positive things we had going and replace him with 3 goons with no track record.

I could be wrong though - it happens once a blue moon when pigs fly on broomsticks.

It was Lloyd who got Russell.

I'm no fan of the SOS axing. But I disagree with you that Liddle only had to ride the wave to increasing memberships. Right place at the right time maybe, but the increase would not have happened so fast without his intense focus on it. Credit where it's due.

Don't shoot the messenger on this one but from what I was told from recruiter from another Victorian club the word in the industry was that SOS was a bit lazy in his role and others in his team thought he could have been doing more.

There is no bigger Stephan Silvagni fan than me, so I certainly don't want to be badmouthing my childhood hero.

Yes, the Pies love Carlton. You can hear it in their closet Carlton fan president every time he calls one of our games.
Eddie's a great caller for mine. Old school.

Spot on.
It was the people that called for him to be coach and those that appointed him that deserve as much blame and maybe more.
I remember the madness well, of a good 60% of Carlton fans were wanting him and media circus also. It was bad enough just hearing the talk on public transport and talk back radio. Those clowns got their way and had to put up with that shit for a number of seasons. I remember also joining this forum when he was still coach and plenty thick as thieves that wanted him. The delusions was maddening. anyway, thankfully that shit is over the damage done is now over.
Plenty of that here at the time too. That said, the dumbest are often the loudest

No problems, i will delete my post, apologies for passing on some information.

There is no need - as I have heard similar, but you’ve got to realise if you’re going to point a rifle at Bambi (or his mother) around here you need to have it corroborated with two separate independent sources, or be as impeccable as Sir Eric Pearce, Brian Naylor or Peter Hitchener.

Really lazy! That’s why our list has an abundance of talent! What a load of cr..

No need. But you know how vague that sounds.......
Ok I will rephrase.

The recruiting team at the club of the recruiter I spoke with and who I speak to regularly are of the view that SOS was a bit lazy in his role and were not surprised with what happened.

Loves a membership

I’ve read with some interest the recent gongs given out by the AFL. Now everyone who has read Robbo’s prognostications over the years will appreciate my evenhandedness in considering a plethora of issues. Before I shoot my mouth off again. Just one question. Why is Bruce Doull not a legend of the game? I’m prepared to accept solid evidence as to why because I’m confused.

That's always a problem - Perception getting in the way of the pesky truth. :)

I'm not surprised what Buckley said about Mick, but if you dig down, you'll find a lot of ex-players have a lot of bad things to say about a lot of coaches.
Many players liked Mick early. Many players liked Bolton early on, also. Many players like Teague now......now.

I was against us recruiting Malthouse.

I'm pretty sure I wanted us to wait a year and appoint Roos instead.

Yikes.

Because the Hall of Fame thing has been poorly organised and run.
There been no logic for many years of how some recently retired players get inducted and some stars of the game are waiting numerous decades!!!!
How guys like Trevor Barker, Kenny Hunter and Wayne Johnston were left hanging and lesser lights that much younger got in well before them, tells you it is out of whack in timing of the actual Hall of Fame category. For me a guy like Mark Bickley is a good footballer. not a hall of famer. There are a few others like him from recent decades too.

I'm less concerned about Legends category and so far they not cheapened that with every Tom, Dick and Harry in it. If Doull has to wait to be elevated to Legend a little longer, not fussed. John Kennedy is clearly a legend and waiting till he well over 90.
I want to see Robert Flower and Bruce Doull be next two players elevated to Legend status as both are legends in my eyes.
