Have we got a Dogs 2016 smell about us heading into the finals? Inexperienced young side, full of enthusiasm; Have suffered all year with injuries and they start coming back in for finals. Just a thought
If we have these players all available leading into and during finals...

B: Weiters McGovern saad doch Williams

Mids/centre: Cripps cerra hewett Walsh pitto

F: H Charlie owies

I honestly believe we will be very difficult to beat. We will go very close imo.

Nice to get these players back but imo we need Cripps firing like he was at the start of the year. That's the only time we truly looked like a Premiership contender.

But yeah, nah I don't see Dogs 2016 about us. Maybe Dogs 2015 where they played electric footy at times, made the finals and narrowly lost to a much more experienced Adelaide side.

Agree, his form the first 6-8 rounds was out of this world and takes us to a whole new level. If we to do that for a month in September along with a team performance we could do some damage. He's a fair way off that form at the moment but still a month to find that form again

Convinced he is injured tbh.

He was burning blokes off and looked sharp as a tack.

Now he's got that weird stiffness going again and prefers to kick on his left. Bit worried its the same issue as last year.

I'd say Woof but I've banned it.

According to Damien Barrett Ash Hansen out of the running for GWS. Doesn't want to leave Melbourne this year for personal reasons. Good news for us. Almost certain we keep him for at least another year given North are looking to go proven.
Interesting.

I know he's rated highly, however if you asked me what part of the ground are we suffering in the most, it's the area he's tasked with.

Our positioning and general strategy up forward seems a bit haphazard. Very reliant on individual brilliance for scoring. Also very rare that our small forwards are finding themselves in the right position.

The small forwards i think (in my opinion) are playing too high BUT i'd say this is part of the reason we are the #1 defence in the comp over last 10 weeks or whatever that stat was. Think they're pushing RIGHT up so the mids can push back in defence. Then when we win it back they're being used as the outlet IF we move the ball fast enough.

Yes I also think this is happening
But it needs balance. Robbing Peter to pay Paul we are
Durdin showed in Q4 how dangerous he can be with ball in hand in the F50. We need to manufacture that more often

Agreed mate. Especially when our small forwards have some freakish abilities in front of goal. Ie: Honey without the toe poke last weekend.

I think the forward line functions pretty well. The issue is most teams play taller guys on our super small smalls. They then outmark them or roll off to add the out number against CC or McKay. It’s often made even worse by our ball movement allowing a spare back against us. We are lucky their genius pulls it back to level and put forward line productivity for F50 entries is decent.

It’s why having Pitto back pushing rdk forward helps a lot (I’d play him up the ground). And why a fit and in decent form Martin is vital.

I predicted 11-13 wins this year, not sure what your thoughts were, but can you find any positives in our game this year?

100% agree, it would be a massive shot in the arm.

Trouble is, he is not mentally or physically at the required level, and I don't see that changing

Smart post.

Which is why Voss started the year with all of TDK Charlie and Harry in the team so they could spread the taller defenders and Pittonet was silver servicing the mids in CBB and the straight line into the three talls with crumbers was scoring like: bang bang bang

and teams which uses a spare defender meant were playing with one less mid - and guess what Carlton were winning the contests all over teh park and overlap running and sending theball into the three talls and scoring bang bang bang.

Oh and MocGovern/Weiterting McDonald were intercepting everything and giving off to Docherty or Saad running straight lines and feeding teh ball into three talls and they were scoring bang bang bang,

Personally - I'm perfectly OK with Martin spending the rest of the year in the VFL while the side plays finals.

Would rather get games and valuable experience into someone like Honey instead. Martin at 27yo with 132 games, Honey at 20yo with 11 games - both can impact the game in a moment, both can go missing for periods of time, but only one of them can justifiably claim inexperience as an excuse for inconsistency, and investing games as a likely avenue to improved output.

And maybe that gives Jack the kick up the backside he needs to start applying himself across four quarters each week, instead of trading off a 5 minute cameo most weeks and one big game every couple of months.

It's about trust, for me, and I don't trust Martin to show up. For an experienced and highly rated player, that's not good enough. I'm not at kick-him-to-the-curb levels of frustration, but definitely at drop-the-bloke-and-make-him-earn-it.

When a player is out with LTI it is easy to forget the good stuff about them.

With luck and good management

Martin/Williams/Marchbank/Pittonet along with fingers crossed McGovern all feature in the coming weeks - in my book - all of them are starting players who win their one on ones.

In all honesty, outside of finals I think we should absolutely be playing Motlop and Honey as often as we can, to try to fast-track their development provided their selection is warranted on form.

Honey needs a few games to get his thinking speed up to the level, as he's not going to learn AFL reactions at VFL level. Motlop needs to be given defensive KPI's and directly to compete for his position with Owies, to give him exactly the right metrics he needs to stay in the ones; if he's hitting the tackling, pressure and positioning KPI's, leave him in; if not, Owies plays instead.
