Joel Selwood is a natural doing media work.
Really good on 7's little final show.

Meanwhile T. Cotchin says in his honest opinion, we'd better stick to stoppage because we ain't got no outside run.
Walshy, Cotts, Doc and Saady say hi!

The Age are having a go at us again about the pokies.

I hate the pokies. However I don't understand why it's perfectly fine for millionaires to run thousands of the damn things but not okay for a non-profit sporting club.
The Age... aren't they owned by Nine now? No gambling ads anywhere there then...?

Because it is not ok for a club comprised of members who are generally middle class and whose supporter base is comprised, also of battlers to wilfully steal from the poor to fund itself.

Interesting. I assume you have the demographic data to prove your claims about the makeup of Carlton members and pokies gamblers? Surely if you're saying it's class warfare you have evidence to prove it.

Despite your total lack of compassion, yes pokie machines create an addiction that dams good people to poverty and debt

You can see with the quickest of searches online that gambling affects people in lower socioeconomic areas more than others. No idea what team they go for though.

Pokies tends to target low socioeconomic gamblers no doubt. They're an awful blight on our society, and a massive con.

But I have no idea why Michael felt the need to make this some kind of malevant class warfare conspiracy. Many of our members are also from low socioeconomic circumstances too. It's enough to say that taking profits from pokies in any form is a black mark, an immoral act from all involved.

My original point is that multi millionaires make up the majority of pokies licence operators and no one names and shames them. Targeting Carlton and other clubs, who at least use these profits for a positive non-profit purpose, while letting these other scumbags get off scot free is embarrassing journalism and just pathetic opportunism ahead of a final series.

I wonder if its because AFL clubs love championing social causes, most weeks of the season the AFL or clubs are celebrating or raising awareness for any number of social issues, medical issues, racial issues and going about making positive changes in society.

Then on the side of that, the AFL and clubs make millions upon millions of $$$$$ from gambling and pokies which have been found to cause harm to millions of people.

I dont see any difference to when the AFL had to eventually stop advertising cigarettes.

Yep ban gambling ads, does more harm than good, actually struggling to find a ‘good’ at all. Surely sport is exciting enough!!

Shits me that my not even 6 year old son asks me what the TAB is, what Sportsbet is, what does 'odds' mean etc

Yeah normalise it now, get em when they start getting access to their own money!!!

What frustrates me is that the evidence of the social and economic consequences society wide is clear and irrefutable.

If grown adults want to give their money to the rich and powerful so be it, but at the very least, leave it out of tv/sport advertising.

Get this. Think it was a Betfair ad on GuesSEN that said "We want you to win".
