Hawks dropped the first 5 last year
Richmond had two spells of 6 losses in 7 games in 2016
It can change real quick, we've seen it ourselves for good and bad.

Absolute corker of a post.

(and yes mafs is branch of philosophy - not a discipline in and of itself but a worthy and important tool for the pursuit of epistemological clarity)

Dunno if mafs is more ontological tbh - my appetite for philosophy ended at undergrad where I slept through pure and dozed through applied for a double first - was more interested in chasing skirt sinking beer and playing rugby as all good people should. What I do know is that mafs is second only to golf as the worst taught disciplines imo.

anyway back to tearing hair out over the comedic opera that is Carlton. :thumbsu:

i would prefer he stays but seems like a win/win either way? the money st kilda are offering, combined with TDKs talent would ensure a top 3 comp pick, no?

i mean if ben mckay is worth pick 3, TDK is probably worth picks 1, 2, and 3 lmao
Doesn't work that way. Unless we finished 2nd last. Best pick available is the pick behind our first.

Doesn’t work like that mate … where we finish dictates the pick … the way we are going will be a top 8 pick but say we won the premiership , highly unlikely , we would get pick 18 for him …say we finished top 4 we probably trade with saints but the lower we finish probably take the pick …

Don't think we can trade with the Saints. We'd have to have the cash available to meet the Saints salary ($1.7m) which we wouldn't be able to do within the free agency window, we just wouldn't have the money available to 'match' and force the trade. If he gets offered $1.7m, we can't block it. We need to either sign him, or take the FA Compo (Band 1).

Show off … I battled my way to 2:1 😎

Kemp is in a contract year. If he wants offers and money he needs to start showing more.

McGovern is also out of contract but owes us so his renegotiation will be in our favour. If he wants more he’s another free agent that could get us another 2nd rounder.

Walsh is a pre agent and apparently will hold offers at potentially his lowest output. I expect teams like Geelong to come looking.

We just need enough dollars available (if TDK goes that’s about 1 million free) to go after some elite kicks.

can we just play this on repeat for the next 12 months.

Maybe Vossy should show it to the players.....this is what we're capable of guys!

Such a distant memory

Like how does this not motivate the playing group?

The G was shaking - one of the best feelings in my life, probably second to seeing my wife walk down the aisle.

The euphoria once Acres kicked the goal and then the final siren at the end. 🍆

Really hope we can live it and even better in the next 24-36 months

Oh, god no. He already paid us back by signing for an extra two years at a discount after his initial 5 year contract was up. Now we have an opportunity to cut him loose and not waste even $300-400k a year giving him another contract.

But can’t we move things around sign him and then trade him ….still early with how our seasons is going but if we are not making finals , rather bottom out and get a better pick .

Warm night. We never gave up. We stayed in the contest. What a game!!!!

ACRES, GOAL GOAL GOAL!!!
Bought tears of joy to my daughters face. Stand was shaking. Will never forget that night.

No chance, there's no such thing as a sign and trade in AFL. If we have the cash to sign him, and TDK is willing to sign we'll just sign him and he'll play for us, we wouldn't and couldn't then trade him.

Only time anything like that happens is when the player (TDK in this scenario) wants to go, a RFA offer is made and the club has the salary cap room to 'match' the salary and force a trade. This requires us to have the exact offer that St Kilda is providing, likely to be $1.7m over 5-8 years. Which we just won't have, and there's no ability at that time (in the free agency window) to move anything around.

I honestly don't know

Sadly, it just feels like groundhog day again and we are a long way from success and I am tired of it
I don't think we are too far. We have a decent midfield and defence. We are just really really struggling in the forward end of the ground.

We just need to recruit well and have some of our youth come through and shine and things turn around.

We are at a point where we could easily fall to pieces or we could get things right.

I'd like to think we can get a couple of forwards, get Moir going and Smith back next season and come good.

I really don't know about this season. Things are falling to pieces a bit. We have a few injuries and players abandoning ship. There is very very little going right at this stage.

Find ways to win with what we have got. Easier said than done.

The question needs to be asked, who is doing a really good job for this club and who isn't? That's something to think about as the season progresses and things may get tough.

My heart rate was at 158, mouth had dried up. I ran down the steps on level 4 hugging randoms and waving the scarf

Pure euphoria

Was an amazing game and feeling

A real reminder of what we are capable of as a club - not just the playing group but the supporters too.

Think this is an insipid enough post for me to officially put this board behind me. Farewell all, I'll be on mainboard only from this

Don’t leave mate. Don’t let the insensibilities and lack of decency of others shape your space.

Is this post from 2025?

In the real world i get 4 weeks annual leave to take however and whenever i want, i get to purchase an extra 2 weeks of annual leave to take whenever i want, i also get 2 weeks sick leave and a weeks carers leave, i work a 9 day fortnight.

Most jobs pay you even when you dont turn up, lots actually and you dont lose your job.
Great qualities to have in your career. Many have this but many don't and it should be appreciated.

AFL players get a fair bit of leave as it stands over the offseason. Yes they do their own fitness stuff but they aren't working anywhere near the amount of hours that the masses are. I would say that most AFL players probably have had their 4 weeks leave or more already.

What's the bet Harry and Elijah don't turn up to work and miss more than 4 weeks? What is the bet that at the end of this year they have had more than 8 weeks off paid?

They are still getting more time off, working less hours than you and the odds are they are getting paid more as well.

They will still be employed and paid next season.

They are some of the most entitled people in this country. They don't really know what it's like to have it tough and to struggle.

You have a cost of living crisis that is only getting worse and you have people who break rules and don't feel like working, working low hours, their job is sport and getting paid hundreds of thousands a year.

Are you seeing where I am coming from?

I've been long of the opinion that kids coming straight out of high school should be drafted into the state leagues rather than the AFL. For a number of reasons. The biggest two are that their minds and bodies are not yet finished developing. Do we all remember that players entering the senior side used to have to progress through the u19s and the reserves before making a start in the seniors. Some players would go straight into the senior side, but they would also spend a few years playing reserves before they made it permanently into the senior side.

Some of them never got passed playing reserves. Since the AFL started allowing basically school kids to get drafted as first team players, we started seeing more and more kids washing out. Their minds aren't mature enough for the rigours of the sport, and their bodies haven't finished filling out.

At 18, I was more like Simmo in build... lean and skinny.
At 19, I'd filled out to around 90kg and I had my adult frame.
At 21, I'd finished growing. I was 183cm in the old money and weighed in at 102kg.

My 21 year old self would have snapped my 18 year old self like a twig. Six inches height and 35kg weight difference made a massive difference.

The best example of growing into their body is Moo. He was slightly under-weight when he arrived at the club. After 2 years of gym work, he's close to finished filling out.

Well said and I 100% agree. Most kids get drafted and sit in the state leagues anyway. What they don't get is real life experience. What you get at school, especially now, is so far from the real world it's not funny. Experience a real workplace and a real boss and superiors before entering the AFL. Players would get a vastly different take on life and learn to appreciate what they have a lot more, which they really really should.

It would also work better for clubs. Taking players a little older you get a much better gauge of their talent. I think drafting would be far more accurate. Reality is, at 18 it's still a bit of a guess.

AFL lists would also be far less clogged with kids who can't play AFL.

What you have said is spot on. The draft age is too low. Kids at that age are less mentally mature than ever.

To be fair, of the draft age went from 18 to 20, it would probably be a much better system.

AFL teams know what they are getting. Draft picks are actually going to be worth something and impact immediately. Players have had an opportunity to grow up and experience the real world. Lower sides aren't throwing a heap of teenagers out there and getting them all banged up.

Imagine us rebuilding in this system. We would have not missed so many picks, for sure.

No sick leave in your work?
Self employed. I don't turn up, no one turns up.

Just lost 2 key staff members 3 weeks ago and Ive been working enormous hours per week since mon - sun to get my company back by on track replacing the key staff which is extremely difficult and putting us back on track by whatever means necessary
All I want is for the blues to do the same step up and fix this club
Whatever is required 🛑

On the Harry situation, I'll only put my two cents in this time:

Life is bigger than footy.

There’s been a mountain of speculation and over-the-top takes on something we don’t have the full details on.

As supporters, our job is to back him in during a tough time, not pile on.

Hopefully, with the support of his family, mates, the club, the fans, and those around him, he finds the strength he needs.

Yeah, he can be frustrating to watch at times, but H is one of the good ones. He deserves our support.

3-400k is under the league average. So that would be a decent contract.

It will depend on where we finish.
