They also head towards water.

Any of you fellas do any yabbying.

When I was a kid my old man lived on a farm in Gisborne and we used to go down to the dam, tie a chop to a string and drag the buggers in then net them.

Usually come back with 100 or so.

The only way I've ever caught a yabby is using a yabby pump.... but that's down on the mud flats, so that little peice of information is really quite useless.....

Thanks lads, but I fear Wench is gone forever. I've just put my foot in one of plates of Atlantic salmon I'd left out to lure her, and there are shallow dishes of water everywhere; but it's all been for nought.:(

So I've phoned our nearest aquarium and they have yabbies in stock. What else can I do?

Have a channel down the back of our house which runs from the Grampians but there hasn't been water in it for about 6-5 years. the 2 years before that it was full one day and dry the next and then full again the next so it was a bit odd. We did a lot of yabbying there and came home with about 4 or so buckets full after a good night. Caught about 3 turtles all up and we have also had 2 Carp swin into our Operas.

This reminds me of the time when I was little & we were baby sitting my friend's goldfish.... ;)

After a day or 2 we came out & it was floating on the surface. Dead. So we went to the petshop & bought a new one to replace it.
Another 2 or so days later we got up in the morning to find a very hard goldfish on the floor, it had jumped out of it's open glass bowl & landed on the floor. Dead.
So we went out & bought another one.

Luckily this one lasted & I don't think she minded.

:p :D :o

Yep used to do the string and piece of meat trick on my uncles farm, good fun. If you left an opera house in overnight you would get a net full the next morning, big fellas too.
