At least ion Victoria many of us are following the case of Christopher Lane, The Melbourne Baseballer on scholarship to Oklahoma college who was shot in what appears to be nothing but a thrill kill by Oklahoma teenagers in the town of Duncan.

One witness is telling police that it’s possible that there was another target.

Prosecutors are planning to try the accused as adults two suspects, Chancey Luna (16), who is accused of pulling the trigger and James Edwards (15) and have been charged with First Degree Murder

Where as Michael Jones (17) has been charged using a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a weapon and accessory after the fact of murder in the first degree.

This is incredibly sad that someone can just become a murder target for a cure for pure boredom. Though I think we’ve had one BF member who lives in the US, maybe Copernicus, explain before to us the concept of gang members living short lives and care factor at zero.

The other issue at play is it appears that someone in Luna’s family is trying to provide him with an alibi.

Put em away for life. Anyone who wants to kill someone just for the fun of it can go and get ****ed. Bunch of c**ts.

Add the good ol gun control issue too, to that. I realise murders occur here in Australia as well, but over in the States it just seems way too easy to get a hold of a gun and kill. I remember having an argument with a family over in the States (lovely people, not "gun nuts") but we could just not see eye to eye regarding guns. They could not believe I had never held a gun in my life, or myself or my friends have never owned a gun or that John Howard banned semi-automatic weapons after Port Aurthur. It is their culture, it is their "right". They will never believe anything different.

Well if they are found guilty they pretty much will be, 45 years is life. May get life with no parole either.

Didn't this Edwards boy have anti white statements all over his facebook. About how he had knocked them out and what he was going to do them.

This has all the hall marks of a hate crime the feds were talking about after the Zimmerman verdict. Only sounds like a real hate crime not just one to placate people who were angry but unjustifiably so on that occasion. But sure as hell well hear nothing about it because only white men can commit a hate crime.

Well they will actually, they cant be executed due to the fact they're all under 18.

Anyone who takes away the life of another person senselessly, regardless of race does not deserve to see the outside world again. If they're not able to be executed, at least lock em up for life which is probably almost as bad, if not worse.

Yeah I approve of the death penalty in some cases but not for minors. The shooter will be away for a long time, there wont be a happy ending if he ever does get out (Im not talking recriminations, but leaving detention after that long, without any adult experience at just being a normal citizen, wont end well). He is most likely to get caught up into prison gang business and extend his stay a long time.

Its all just so stupid.

I agree. The two up on murder one charges will be going away for a very, very long time if they are found guilty. I'll take a bet that they wont be dancing around and laughing, thinking its a big massive joke either, if/when that day comes.

Only one of them has shown remorse or cooperated.

He'll get 10-20 years.

The charges brought upon the driver indicate the Police don't consider him worthy of a death penalty.

Isn't it strange though that the 15 year old who was a passenger, did not pull the trigger is charged with murder yet the driver is not.

The driver presumably drove knowing full well there was a target intended for the shooter and his involvement is surly more culpable than the passenger who so far as we know was a passenger. He probably was involved in the discussion and yes the reports indicate he was taking the whole thing as a joke but how is he charged with murder and the driver not.

There appears to be some noise coming out of the US about the reason why and yes it involves race. I would think it might have something more to do with police co-operation.

His lawyer will be pushing for a juvenile hearing and probably has a good chance of getting it.

I am not shocked but I am shaking my head that this is not being considered a hate crime, despite the evidence from one of the accused's own twitter account and other medium that he has espoused his hatred of white people. If this was a white guy killing a black guy, they would call it a hate crime until evidence showed that it was not. Here they have evidence and still refuse to call it what it is.

Astonishing really.

Well said Stinger - I couldn't agree more

So Travon Martin is killed, thousands protest but when it was the other way around...........silence

Were talking about the 15 year old who made a big dance when getting arrested. The one who went to his probation session straight after the shooting. The reports tell us he already has a big record. He's had his chance with juvenile justice and he's clearly learned nothing from it. If he wanted to do something about it he had a chance to tell the cops straight away what happend in their protection. He want's to dismiss the lessons and the chances he's been given than it's time to show him and others that serious actions have serious consequences.

It's clear from his facebook page he was well into what was happening and violence was high on his agenda so the he was just a passenger line doesn't wash.

Agree, he should be having a long time locked away. I'm all for an opportunity for rehabilitation but clearly this kid isn't smart enough to want to behave like a normal law abiding citizen.

It's being considered more of a gang crime and gangs hate everybody I suppose. But I'm not sure what difference it would make if it was racially motivated. That's not really going to impact sentencing.

There is a difference between expressing racist sentiments and being racially motivated in a particular incident.

There was a lot of empty big-noting from this particular person - it's hard to take it all seriously, and it is hard to definitively prove that it was the motivation for the shooting.

There was a case here where an Indian man was bashed by a person shouting a racial epithet. That was not considered racially motivated; despite the sentiment which was expressed, it wasn't considered definitive proof of the motivation behind the action.

Besides, if I recall correctly, the alleged shooter has a white mother and the third of the trio is clearly white.

You raise an excellent point about his alleged record and the fact the 15 year old was on probation.

How do we even know this. We shouldn't know this until after the trial. The cops are out already ensuring that every decision every one knows this kid has been in trouble. We don't know anything about what he's supposedly done other than some anti white posting and some teenage big noting

But we all think, even me in my reactionary mode, that this kid is trouble and good for nothing. Were not judging the facts. We don't know what he did in the car or that he was part of the conspiracy to murder.

He is charged with it but the trial is meant to be based on the facts of a case. Not judged on a record and a juvenile record at that.
