He met with West Coast earlier this week and turned them down. More than likely going to stay at the Lions
Yeah Black said he was hoping to stay at the Lions for a few years and learn the trade and see if he is any good at the coaching gig.

To keep people who judge coaches by their playing careers happy, perhaps?

Channel 7 had him miked up for a game, he was brilliant on the field instructing the others and showcasing his knowledge. Maybe he would need to work on his communication and building a rapport with players but still with his knowledge on board can't be a bad thing

Just bringing across the discussion of assistant coaches over here.

I feel that unless you're the senior coach himself, that it's really hard to gauge just how well performed an assistant really is.
I've had a shot at Barker along with many of us here but the truth is that I wouldn't have a clue whether he's doing exactly what is being asked of him or not.
If Barker remains then he must be doing his bit. Malthouse won't hang onto assistants that can't perform their duties. That's obvious.

Glad to hear that we'll e topping up on development coaches also.
Malthouse still has plenty of energy but he can't do everything himself.

Yeah with ya there Harker, I have also cast doubt about Barkers performance and have read the interchange b/w Dram and Sin about responsibilities and where they lie.

I (like others) just want our forwards to function as we would expect them to. That is mark, kick, goal. To often we see points and confusion within the forward 50. Now there is an aspect of this dysfunction that is caused by the delivery into the forwards and I am hoping that with improvement in skill levels of our mids this will diminish.

Now a coach maybe very good at the theory side but not good at the practical aspects or a good communicator/ not so good communicator or they just can not reach a player.
This is where I believe we should be looking to try some consultant style coaching.
For instance Cooper Cronk of the storm has an unbelievable attitude to working on his weaknesses to improve his game.
Lets identify coaches to help players with specific issues.

post 501 - Levi's

As long as we stay away from Michael O'Loughlin - After getting thrashed said the lost because the team didnt put in enough effort and didnt follow his instructions.
Welcome to coaching Micky, you better have more than that to hang your hat on if you want another gig.

That was a total bullshit effort last night... it really looked like the guys were here in party mode and couldn't give a rats about the games.

I'm sorry guys, you are here representing your country... To get thrashed like that (with a record score for the Irish as well) told me that you just didn't try enough.

I could see O'Loughlin on the side getting more frustrated as the game went on... Not his fault that the afl castrated the team by sending an indigenous side over.
