Our boys played their guts out and I don't think the margin reflected the closeness of the match (IMHO) but every time we challenged you always seemed to have the answers, like all top sides do.

Well played. :thumbsu:

Ya bastards. ;)

I doubt you would be saying the same if the winning margin was for the bombers

Thanks mate, the margin was completely unrepresentative of the closeness of the game.

You guys have a lot to look forward to this year, playing with that amount of passion.

Well done

Congratulations

Congratulations to the Collingwood Football Club for their Win today:thumbsu:

We were about 16 down with 5 min left. Your boys were able to do the job when the match was there to be iced.

We never got headed, our boys did the job for approximately 120 minutes.

Could have very easily gone the other way. You played the better game up till 3/4 time and certainly played in the spirit of the ANZACs. Just unlucky in the final quarter that, that your energy dropped off.

Essendon are playing great footy this year. List with limited talent, but you are playing well together and every week playing inspired and playing for eachother which as a spectator is fantastic to watch. Every chance to make the top 4 if you keep improving as a team.

LOL wut? Essendon played the better game for the first 3 quarters but at no stage held the lead, that's quite an accomplishment!

Anyway, t'was a good match, Essendon have improved out of sight from last year. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

Yes it does sound almost comedic when you say that :)

Others will no doubt view the contest differently but all the way up until 3/4 time Essendon were playing harder and on their terms. We needed to win the contested ball + clearances by more.

The game was played in their half much more than it should have (even if they didn't always convert, but I credit this to great work from the defense as a whole), their midfield unit as a whole I felt outperformed ours minus a couple of standout efforts which is worring considering they are without a whole lot of star power, but also a great compliment to how good they are together and how well they execute their gameplan.

It wouldn't shock me if Essendon beat us in round 19. We will certainly need to lift (which we can) if we want to win 2/2 v the Bombers this year.

If we play Essendon with the same performance as today then we will most likely lose. Essendon had more intensity and pressure around the ground contests bar the 1st quarter and if it weren't for their disposal and fumbles, no doubt they were nervous because it was ANZAC, then it would have been a different result.

As the commentators stated at the end of the game, the 5 goal margin was a true reflection of where they're at. Essendon played irresistably, but if they had a couple of their players out, in, and if Collingwood was actually playing 4 quarters, it would've ended up being a 10 goal margin instead of 5.

I think it will go the other way. Right now they are very committed to the plan and it is very taxing to play our style week in week out, which so far they have. Come the last 6 weeks I think they will run out of legs as the season goes on. They are playing cracking footy and I think next year they will be a real threat.

Whereas I believe we will be playing far better footy than we are now and even if Essendon don't drop off due to fatigue do you think they have more improvement to make than we do in regards to our top end....ala Geelong Final last year

And one of the best things about the win is that Collingwood has further extended the Anzac Day head-to-head lead over Essendon to 10 wins and 7 losses and 1 draw! :)

I don't think your numbers are right, KS. I thought that before last year's game we were all tied up. So we would now be two in front, not three.

In fact, you have named 18 results, and there have only been 17 ANZAC games... May be getting 12 months ahead of yourself...

Yes after a recount it is 9 wins (1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011), 7 losses (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009) and 1 draw (1995) in favour of Collingwood, which is a lot better than it was after the 2005 match when Essendon led 6 wins to 4 wins! Our average winning margin has been 33 points, and average losing margin of 25 points, and 11 Collingwood Anzac Day medallists to Essendon's 6 (Chris Tarrant won it in 2001 even though Essendon won by 8 points).

Just too good. The way your guys play so hard is unbelieveable and im sure Hird is trying to instill some of that with our guys. Although our list is inferior to you guys it is amazing to see what playing the game for each other can achieve.

It took you guys years of being a class act off the field with the best coaches and facilities, recruiters, fitness guys etc. to win your flag so I don't expect instant success with our changes over the last little bit but im confident we are on the right track towards respectibility.

You didnt notice we dropped the press/zone and went on man on man in the 3rd qtr? Did the same in the last qtr against Carlton. If anything it would be more taxing to play man on man as the breakaway, free flowing stuff comes into it more.

Game wasn't shown in Canada  and neither was yours last week :( and I would like to have seen both. I have said a few times that I am loving the bombers this year and I think you guys are looking likely contenders atm.

I was just saying we have felt we never seemed to play well at the pointy end of the season until a number of the younger blokes got a few more preseasons into them. Essendon will benefit from the same and I think next year will be huge for you.
