Saw it at IMAX and it was excellent 8/10 but slighty long and got bogged down a bit in the middle.
Heath Ledger 10/10 amazing performance and it makes you wonder what a huge talent we have lost.

Batman fans beat Godfather with 'rank trick'

THE blogosphere is buzzing over claims internet users enamoured with the latest Batman film have been sabotaging the reputation of The Godfather on one of the world's biggest movie websites.

Fans of The Dark Knight, which broke box office records when it was released earlier this month, have voted the latest Batman instalment into the number one spot on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) Top 250 Movies list.

But several blogs have aired allegations that fans of The Dark Knight provided bad reviews of the former top movie, The Godfather, to skew the ratings.

"Could it be that Dark Knight fans are intentionally voting down Godfather in hopes of keeping The Dark Knight at the top spot?” asked one writer on movie blog "/film".

"The percentage of users who gave Godfather a 1 out of 10 grew from 6.1 per cent to 6.4 per cent, just enough to push (The Shawshank Redemption) ahead, while the percentage... who loved the film, giving it a 10 out of 10, remained the same."

Pop culture website Radar said the campaign had been started on The Dark Knight's official website forums.

"According to the ridiculously active message boards on TDK's page, the movement to promote the movie to the top of the 250 involves registering multiple accounts and using them to give TDK 10 stars while simultaneously rating The Godfather one star, keeping it down below."

One blogger on technology website CNET said the event was the latest "meltdown" in the "wisdom of crowds" mentality that underpinned Web 2.0 sites like Wikipedia and Digg.

"We have seen, with some consistency, that the system can be broken or manipulated by the actions of a passionate group of individuals acting as a mob," Harrison Hoffman wrote.

"If these incidents are not largely prevented in the future and become commonplace, we risk a lot of people losing faith in this otherwise very useful system.

"Most serious movie watchers would argue that claiming that The Dark Knight is the best movie of all time is ridiculous."

A similar campaign was staged after the release of Lord Of The Rings to promote that film to the top of IMDb's Top 250 and was sure to happen again in the future, Radar said.

Not including such internet campaigns, The Godfather has been at the top of the list for almost a decade.

Only regular IMDb users can vote for films on the website's Top 250 Movies list.

People need to understand something about that IMDB list. It's completely 100% useless.

Apparently, TDK had 10,000 votes of 10/10 before the film even opened. Furthermore, obsessed Batman fans have been logging on and voting 1/10 for Shawshank and The Godfather in order to bring their ratings down. So as i said, do not take ANY notice of the IMDB rankings.

I disagree with that. I never take any notice of the ratings because as we all know they have been tampered with for years. Studios hiring people to give flicks 10/10 is really a shitty exercise. For a good review site try metacritic.com

But IMDb isn't 100% useless as I am yet to find any other site that can equal IMDb in terms of the quantity of movies & TV shows and all the other info it lists. It can be a great rescource for looking up movies for plots and a general feel of how good it may be. Which I think is its real purpose.

As for TDK...pretty good movie but nowhere near The Godfather.

I'm a bit of a comic book nerd and Batman fanboy and even I wouldn't say it's as good as the Godfather. But it didn't disappoint and it's probably the first hyped blockbuster I've ever seen that didn't make me want to kill the director. You have to add in all the rest of the components. There is also Heath Ledger and his death, there is something of a princess Di aspect here. Even my mum is going to see this movie, and it's because of Ledger and how sad it is, such a loss etc. And lastly and probably most importantly you have to remember that people by and large are stupid. Add all this together and you have a media monster that makes impressionable people go out of their way to act like tools. Who else would wage a popularity war over movies on the internet? It's just a movie.

IMDB as a resource tool is great. I said their top films list was useless.

Let's not over anlayse this. Just accept it for what it was, a great action movie. 150 mins where you could just lose yourself in an entertaining romp.

How anyone could call it overrated is beyond me.

Batman bosses want Johnny Depp to play The Riddler

Johnny Depp has reportedly been approached to play a villain in the next Batman movie, with studio bosses searching for someone who can match Heath Ledger's charisma.

The actor is wanted to portray The Riddler in the sequel to The Dark Knight, according to studio bosses.

A source said: “Johnny would be amazing as The Riddler. The studio knew they needed someone who could match or even top the late actor Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker in the most recent film The Dark Knight, and think Johnny has the potential to do so.”

The Riddler is a manic super-villain who baffles Batman with his cryptic criminal clues.

He first appeared in the comic book series in 1948, and was portrayed by Frank Gorshin in the 60s US TV show, a role which earned him an Emmy nomination.

More recently, The Riddler was played by Jim Carrey in the 1995 movie Batman Forever.

Studio bosses are also said to be keen to sign up Philip Seymour Hoffman to play The Penguin in the new movie.

They reportedly believe the Oscar-winning star would be the right choice to play the aristocratic, intelligent and terrifying villain.

Christian Bale is currently wowing critics with his portrayal of the Caped Crusader in The Dark Knight alongside Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Sir Michael Caine and Maggie Gyllenhaal

The studio suits can approach whoever they want, and while Philip Seymour Hoffman and Johnny Depp would both do fantastic work as Penguin and Riddler respectively, it's Nolan's film to make. I'm not expecting to see The Penguin in Nolan's Batman franchise, just like we wont see Robin. I think he'll look to the comics again for the next Batman villain and we'll get someone we haven't seen in previous Batman movies.

Didn't Nolan say he didn't want the Penguin as a villain, because he didn't really bring anything to the table as to challenge Batman? He is after all just a short, fat little man with an umbrella full of magic tricks.

I would much prefer to see the Riddler, and Depp would be an excellent choice to play him.

Johny Depp could be right person to play as the riddler. I hope they keep to the darker theme of the movies unlike the one with Jim Carry.

They have got to be careful not to make him another joker. The joker plays "games" with the citizens of Gothem as evidenced by the ferries and blowing up the hospital.

The riddler should be portrayed as an assasin who leaves clues to who his next target is or something.

You are right...but money talks I suppose. Maybe a chance for a voluptuous Catwoman down the road too (wouldn't mind Pfieffer to put on the suit again, even at 50).
