So what did everyone think? I was happy with it. Would have been better if we picked at least one more skilled mid, but....

It seemed that we made our choices quick, which suggests we got our men. The ruckman looks promising. Hansen seemed a bit disappointed, and I hope this changes very soon.

How did you come to the conclusion that he was dissapointed?
Sounded fine to me on SEN.

Was watching him closely on AFL.COM.AU. Didn't look too happy after being picked up by us. Fake smile and all. Probably just didn't know how to react to it all?

But the way he said that the Kangaroos hadn't approached him after draft camp seemed to contradict what Laidley just said on SEN that he should go under the knife.

If he needs to go under the knife for hip repairs, means he may not be seen on field next year. In seniors anyway.

I heard that too! All I could think of was that Laids interviewed him at the draft camp and suggested an early op was a good idea for the kid no matter who picked him.

Laids said on SEN that he's had the op and 'he's ready to start training with us'. I know that could mean walking the boundary line or time in the gym, but there was no hint of that.

Who is that f*uckwit on SEN who just took a swipe at us????

Hansens parents said they were happy he was staying in Victoria, to which this knob said "gees the Kangaroos, how long will he be staying in Victoria for?"

Thanks for your input you ********ing tool.

David Schwarze. I've just sent off my email to SEN telling them of my anger at his stupid comments. I urge everyone else to do the same!

On paper the selections look ok. But the draft is a huge game - every choice a gamble. Wont know for a long time if we have chosen well or its a shocker.

For everyone we picked up I'm sure someone can tell us what a bad choice we made by passing over another player. Thats the game.

Welcome to all the boys and lets hope they all reach their potential.

On the surface, I can't say I'm ecstatic with this draft ON PAPER.

It's success will be determined by the 2nd & 3rd round picks, as pick 3 was going to be good no matter who was chosen & we usually do alright with lower picks. However, 2nd rounders especially have (from memory) been wasted by us.

Urquhart does not seem like a genuine midfielder for mine & seems to be more like depth for a half-back position. Pick 21 in a strong draft should not be used for depth!

Goldstein is simply McIntosh #2.

I would have much rathered risking a pick on a key forward or a quickish midfielder!

Thoughts...???

True, but the big key to those kids making it is our ability to develop them.
We have been average in developing kids in the last few years, and that has to change if we are to go forward as a footy club.

With West Coast, you get the feeling that who ever they draft, they will 100+ games.

Even if you forget the injuries factor and the need for back up on every position, surely it is a given that you have to have continuity in every position, meaning that someone has to be coming through the ranks and compete for spots?

Hale and McIntosh are 22 or there abouts. Goldstein is 4 years younger which is perfect IMO. Or do you want your next ruckman to be 6 or 7 years younger?

The list is like a living organism that needs to regenerate itself as cells do in order to survive.

What happened when McCkernan and Capuano started to fall off the pace not long after the 99 GF? We had to draft and trade for band aid solutions in Porter and Burton, and only drafted Hale and McIntosh in 2001 and 2002 respectively. That was Pagan's lack of forward thinking, and we paid the price by not having a dominant ruck division up until today.

Having the next talented ruckman in line who is 4 years younger is smart list management.

Exactly. I can't imagine why anybody would be critical of drafting an 18yo ruckman. Especially as it seems that Hale will be used at CHF. That leaves us with McIntosh and Moran. Two ruckman with about 20 games between them.
