I know that others have received bans for mentioning this game prematurely. However, on the basis that there was an announcement trailer at E3 I feel like this thread is justifiably open for business.
See the very short teaser trailer below:

Obviously not many details can be gleaned from this.
The music is a rerendering of Skyrim's theme that will no doubt be revamped entirely by Jeremy Soule in the next 12 months.
Also, the scenery is particularly mountainous and by the ocean.
Todd Howard revealed that it will follow Starfield which indicates that it is a likely 2020 release.
Holding my breath that this isn't like Fallout 76 and "entirely online".

A High Rock setting would be my guess based on what they showed.

Find it hard to be too excited. I mean we all knew it'd come eventually, and we all knew it was still a few years away. Nothing has really changed with the announcement.

Looking forward to it but yeah, see ya'll in 3+ years.

I get that it's a ways away, however, the thread for Red Dead Redemption 2 was started over three years ago and that is still yet to be released. And we have no idea when Cyberpunk 2077 will be released. Going off CD Projekt's history it will likely be delayed until 2020 and that thread is still buzzing (obviously having an actual trailer helps).

Needless to say I, for one, am elated regarding this announcement. There was four years between Morrowind and Oblivion then five years between Oblivion and Skyrim. After almost seven years I didn't take it for granted that there would be a new one coming. I mean Todd Howard is practically an old man now.

Don't get me wrong - it's definitely threadworthy and I'm happy it's been announced. I'll be getting my TES fix watching the location analysis videos, but it's going to be a long time before we get anything else to talk about with F76 and Starfield coming out before TESVI, that's all i meant.

Assuming Starfield comes out in 2019 (big assumption), we won't see this til 2021/22 at the earliest. Sooooo long since 11/11/11...

Probably best that they take all the time they need.
Some of the Skyrim quest lines felt like they were rehashed from Oblivion.
A little more time spent with quest development wouldn't go astray.

The landscape looks like Rivenspire from ESO so high rock would be my best guess. Plus the high rock region politically is similar to westeroes so given game of thrones popularity that would be my burst guess.

Skyrim was great when I first played but looking back at it now most of the quests were pretty meh.

The main quest is short, barely takes you across Skyrim (I think you only go to three cities) indroducrs you to two factions which barely contribute to main quest and or give you anything meaningful to do afterwards and one of those factions are a bunch of dicks.

The civil war quest was rushed, no imperial soldier wears heavy armour for some reason, storm cloaks look like any old guard, the obvious argument against the storm cloaks is never mentioned. For some reason taking control of a run down fort gives you control over the whole region.

The "cities" are mostly glorified farms. They're also supposed to be captiolsnof there region but most regions have barely anything in them. Winterhold, Falkreath the Pale and Hjaalmarch each only have one little village in them. Morthal only has one quest, Winterhold only has the College which is also a short questline. Even the big cities are kinda meh, Whiterun is supposed to be a city full trade but it's small and empty and the only traders that come by aren't even allowed to enter.

So yeah, I'm definitely happy for them to take there time for Elderscrolls 6.

Bethesda’s approach has always been making as much as they can modular, that way they can get more done with less people. Unfortunately this extends to their quest building and it would take a shift in design philosophy to change that.

I really hope they use The Witcher 3 as their template for a lot in TESVI, but in particular the quests. There's just no comparison between W3 and Skyrim. Every TES since Morrowind has gone backwards in this respect imo, and you could even extend that to Fallout 4 in many ways. I do have faith though seeing as they have taken more than enough time to look at other games in the genre now, of which there was a distinct lack of in the past, and learn from them.

Was more of a throw them a small bone to keep them quiet. Imagine the uproar if they didn’t acknowledge the game.
I am pumped for it tho

Probably only announced to cool the outrage from fans who hate the Fallout 76 'online only' factor. Probably wouldn't have been shown had old mate from Kotaku not leaked the Day-Z online only info about 76, which threw a fair bit of shade at Bethesda. They probably knew they had to sneak in or end with a sweetener to keep the single player fans happy
