Not true. He will nominate them and he will pay with them while at their peak.

Hodge is as much pro Brisbane as Lethal is.
If they're at their peak, he probably won't be good enough to get a game. He's neither an Ashcroft, not is he Luke.

I've kind've readied myself that the only way we'll get Cooper is if he's not that good and the Lions have others before him

I get the whole family lifestyle reasoning for the Hodges being in Brisbane...I just don't get how Hodgey could see them as anything but the team he did a favour for.

They have a couple of high end academy kids coming in, so maybe he becomes available to make room.

Has talent based on the limited footage I've seen. Athleticism wasn't bad either.

The Hodge name is worth taking a punt on either way, if they don't turn on the tractor beam up there

You haven't played much team sport I am thinking.

Also Hodgey would be telling Cooper it's in his best interests to compete for a spot against the best, not just go where he might get a game, that would be against the Hodges DNA.

So we need to get better. Quickly.

Doesn't seem to have worked for Joey when he was forced to leave in 09. But that wasn't even my point, ie that he seemingly has as much or even more affection for a club he was basically an assistant coach of, over a club that rightly views him as a great.

Don't think any number of games at Bayswater reserves would change that confoundment.

Mate he lives their and would around the club a lot. Also sometimes teaching a place to better is more fulfilling, especially seeing it succeed, off the work you put in.

Good luck to Copper whatever way it goes.

I have no idea if Cooper Hodge is AFL standard. My bias as a L.Hodge fan creeps in and my heart says yes.

My head thinks he is a chance and clearly he is going to have a shot at an AFL career.

At least with the new FS rules the possibility of Cooper Hodge joining the Hawks is still alive!
Yep - he might be good enough to play at AFL.

That’s all we know.

As for his three brothers, they might be good, ordinary, interested in other things/sports.

FWIW - None of Crawford’s kids are anywhere near AFL level as players (which is fine and to be expected).

Not sure I agree with that. Hodge got a chance to develop and take responsibility as a young player in a poor team. Like Harley Reid is doing. Like Cripps did. Like Lachie Neale did. Obviously need leaders, but you need to be given the games and responsibility. Like Joel Selwood was and like we did with Newcombe.

If Hodge went to Brisbane in 2002 and was behind Voss, Lappin, Black, Akermanis etc... would he have gotten a game. Or would he have been on the sidelines and then traded away and had a mediocre career like Des Hedland?

Hodge go lots of exposure to the highest level so by 2007 he had 100 games experience and as one of the main guys, not just the 4-5th in line for a small amount of time.

It's why we have struggled a bit developing midfielders, many of us thought Shiels would just lift once Lewis and Mitchell left but he stays a 4th or 5th forever. And Ward and Mackenzie are at risk of that now.

If they were in a bottom side they play each week in vital roles with lots of CBA and while they are losing they are getting better and better.

Between the Burgpynes, Hodges, Crawfords and Lewis’s we have half a potential team Father/Sons
So far the Burgoynes (bar Jase) have all proven to be way off AFL level. Rome and Ky are barely SANFL level.

Yeah - go to a team right at the peak, where you might languish in the seconds, play a handful of AFL games and get cut.

or

go to a team where you’re a better chance of regular senior football enabling you to demand better contracts and play a longer career.

Moving to a club where you have a better chance of getting a game worked out well for Josh Kennedy :)

I was in the camp way back then that Liam Shiels was the expendable one. yes even before we won three in row, it was obvious who had the higher ceiling.

I'm glad Joey got a premiership. It runs in that family. If his children get a premiership through Sydney then fantastic.

Football royalty can be thrown about to much but this family wears the crown like no other.

If Cooper Hodge is any good, I think it will be hard to pry him out of Brisbane. His school footy coach was Josh Dunkley this year, and it is where he has grown up

Do we know if Cooper will be spending any time at Dingley over pre season, seeing it's his draft year and will we be able to get to play at BH for a couple of games next season?

Let me try to understand this - Cooper Hodge is being coached by Josh Dunkley - the one father son who never played at the club his father played for...well that's just great

I'm pretty sure Josh got rejected by the Swans at the pick he was bid on by the Dogs.

His old man was filthy at the club and I'm not sure whether the relationship has been repaired.

Completely different stories.

Wow the swans really really botched that one - never knew the story - I assumed that he rejected them or just didn't bother -

Andrew Dunkley had a falling out with Sydney and asked them not to draft Josh as a father son. Sydney had doubts on his kicking so were happy to pass.
