In all honesty how far do Liverpool fans think they are off winning the league?

I don't think we are miles off, but if we want to compete with Chelsea and Man U, we will have to play really well. Unless we can sign a good winger by then end of the transfer season, i can see us stuggling, although i think we will be better once we get Masch back and Rafa chooses who he wants to have as our centre back pairing.

I think we are 4 quality players from being a world class team. Obviously we can't buy 4 world class players all in one but if we had bought a world class left back and winger and i think we could challenge for the title. Thats where i think we shouldn't have brought Keane. But anyway, thats a different story

So imagine we bought Silva and a good left back instead of Dossena, who i don't rate, who could have something like this:

Arbeloa's form slump is baffling to say the least, what happened to the bloke from the start of last season?... Carragher to take over at RB, Skrtel and Dagger is clearly our best defensive partnership, Dossena at LB for a few more games to settle in, but if Aurelio can stay fit, he may take it back.

Mascherano and Babel slot back in, Keane and Babel can interchange, Gerrard and Nando stay in their spots.

I don't think we're that far off, but we're going to have to be ultra competitive and get points off Utd and turn the draws against Arsenal and Chelsea at Anfield into wins, and hope we can still get draws at Emirates and Stamford at the very least.

Also, we tend to have a shit slump after Christmas/New Year, then fire up in March and think of the what if's.

We're not that far off.

Were not far off but the problem is that everytime we get better, they get better. Chelsea look unbeatable this season. We still need one or two real quality signings in wide positions to really challenge. I do believe however that we have the best defensive midfielder in England, the best attacking midfielder in England and the best striker in England. So were doing ok...

My understanding is that deflections are only ruled as own goals if the shot is not headed on target.

Fletcher's was (kind of) and Carragher's may have been going wide (arguably). I have only seen both goals once so I might be wrong.

Yeah I understand that... but ive seen the Fletcher goal a couple of times. It's not over the line when the Pompey defender tries to hack it off the line, only to smash it into the roof of the net. Own goal for mine.

Doesnt really matter though. How Fletcher keeps getting games is beyond. Really average player.
