Both documentaries aired so far, 71 & 81 GF's were excellent.
Very interesting comments from the players and coaches who were involved. They were the good old days. Doull was my idol. Hopefully docs will be produced to include years ending in '2'..next year perhaps? 1972 and 1982 would be rippers.

Will they be running another series this year? We will get the '72 & '82 if so.

Or was it just a one off thing from the AFL? I quite enjoyed the whole series.
There was an article in the Sunday Herald Sun a few weeks ago that mentioned channel 7 will air the new series this year. Last year they were aired by channel 9.

Unfortunately the 10/20/30/40 year anniversary concept that was implemented last year may have been a one off thing; the series this year will cover the grand finals of 1975 North v Haw, 1984 Ess v Haw & 1990 Coll v Ess.

Magnificent period of our history - 3 premierships in 4 years - as a teenager you could strut around the schoolyard wearing your Carlton colours like you were the "**** of the walk".

As a club we dont get enough credit for this time - we should be spoken of in the same tones as the Essendon side of 84/85 and the Hawthorn side of 88/89.

But the Football Media of the time led by the bitter old Tom Prior (Chief Football Writer of "The Sun" and Lou Richards ghost writer) - ensured that we were never given the credit we deserved.

Every Carlton Supporter/Member should take issue in a pub discussion about the great teams of the 80s to ensure that our side takes its rightful place not only as one of the great sides of the 80s but as one of the great sides of all times.
Don't worry about that my friend. This was beyond doubt one of the great teams of football history bar none. A brilliant backline (Doull, Southby, Hunter, Perovic etc.), the major x-factor of Mr Magic up forward, with a talented and cunning Ruck/Forward Captain all overshadowed by THE single greatest collection of 'smalls' ever assembled at one club at the one time - EVER!

Johnston, Ashman, Buckley, Harmes, Marcou, Sheldon, Glascott, Maylin, English etc were simply dynamite! This collection was SO good, Wes Lofts bounced a young Greg Williams back to Golden Square saying he wasn't required/too slow twice!

Always worth noting that this collection of talent - Premiers in 1979, 1981 & 1982 - could actually have made it 4 in a row (in 1980) if the joint hadn't imploded late 1979 with Jezza and the President both sent on their way. ;)

That was a great walk down memory lane. Truly wonderful.
I was 11, it was my second grand final. ('79 the first).
Want a little bit of a tidbit from the day? I remember this so clearly... so here goes and no offence is meant, I'm just remembering something from the day.
In the crowd before the game there was quite a large number of vocal fans from both sides, but a chant broke out from a very large group of Carlton fans from behind where I was sitting. It must have been from the standing area behind the goals at the Punt road end, and to the tune of the Christmas carol whose exact name escapes me at this minute, but you'll recognise it when i type it, the chant started...
PETE BOSUSTOW WALKS ON WATER...FA LA LA LA LA, LA LA LA LA
PETER DAICOS ***** HIS DAUGHTER...FA LA LA LA LA, LA LA LA LA

It was so loud... And quite constant for a bit before the teams had even run out!
Yes, not in the best taste, but it is possibly one of the most enduring memories I had of that day.

Just randomly, before I had even seen this thread or watched the footage of the special, the other day I asked my older brother who I went to the game with if he remembered the chant that was being sung before the game at the '81 Grand Final. I hadn't spoken to him about this once since that very day, and to my astonishment he remembered it exactly as I had done 31 years ago! We had a bit of a laugh about it. :)
