Everyone on here seems to have forgotten about Kane Johnson...

I know most people on this board cant stand him as a player and don't want him in our team but i would have him in the side in a heartbeat, his kicking was well below average last year but so is most our teams :o

He is a great on-field leader and most the younger players would be more confident with him out there, he is our best tagger and knows how to find the pill.

Add... Johnson, Cotchin, Cousins, Coughlan, Raines, Pattison into our team and things look very different, at 100% the above players (minus patto) would get in a game in most sides.

The effect of a leader turning the ball over would be detrimental to the side.

Im sure he has personal qualities but I cant see how you can lead when you are making the mistakes that can destroy your chances of winning.

Good leaders inspire not just because of thier efforts but that they actually do things that increase your chances of winning.

He is a committed player as is Newman but I still think you have to have that stuff that makes your contribution at an impact level on the game.

We have big problems if we need him back in the side. We should be beyond him at this stage and things were meant to go in the direction of him retiring mid season because there was no place for him in a winning side.

Oooh isn't he the guy who announced the removal of Rodan and Roach from the list? Yesss, I remember him now ;)

This is like saying the Jews need Jesus...:thumbsd:

Johnson's major contributions can't easily be seen from a supporter's point of view. He is detrimental to our mental strength in a game with his on-field leadership. I think he is the missing link - the person we are missing the most. Because with him gone, Richo and Bowden are the ones that are majorly looked up to now - they never want to get their hands dirty, they don't set a good example when it comes to defensive aggression, tackling, contested ball and the like.
Don't get me wrong - I haven't really liked Johnson, but now I can see what he puts in that goes unnoticed by supporters. Our leaders at the moment (Brown, Richo, Bowden) - the old guys who don't like to get their hands dirty - are not suited for setting examples - especially Richo when it comes to mental toughness.
90% of sport is mental.
We are really weak mentally.

You can question Richo on his leadership qualities, but, being soft is not one of them! You may want to remove him from that list to get back credibility. Sure you went on to point out Richo may lack 'mental' toughness...but his name still looks way out of place in your 'not getting hands dirty' label:thumbsd:

Sounds like you had a merry night smasha!! :D

We have missed Johnson, peeps won't admit it but we have. His skills and decision making are rubbish but around the contest he isn't too bad. We have been absolutely rudderless in the middle. That is part of the problem that we still have a degree of reliance on Suga. Having said that I don't want to see him return to the side, we need to move on.

no sorry but i disagree, these older players are taking us nowhere, look i know we like to think they are leaders of the group and that sort of stuff but it really is time to realise that they have been there for years and have not taken us anywhere... it really is time to bring in the youth and bring in the enthusiam

When do you see Richo crash a pack or be the first one to make body contact? He is an amazing athlete but I'll change it to "he doesn't like getting his hands dirty".
