It's a great place, my daughter loves living there.
Whenever I'm visiting and out walking with my Swans hat on, I love all the nods and car horn toots I get, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Beautiful area to live Jewels. Middle Park & Albert Park. Lovely tree lined streets, cafe's, beach and of course Albert Park Lake with the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Center. 10-15 minutes to the CBD on the Light Rail. Fantastic that even though there is a very different age demographic that inhabit the area these days it seems a lot of them appreciate that there once was a footy club who wore red and white that were the pride and joy of the area. Although our GF's in recent times have been a bust I must admit I have gotten a bit bit misty eyed driving past South Melbourne Town Hall and seeing the Swans flag raised during those GF weeks.

Albert Park is a fantastic place to live. I lived there nearly 20 years. South Melbourne/St Kilda Road was the Melbourne centre for IT (late 70's to 90's for me) Would swim in Doug Wade's gym, under South's grandstand, then walk to work. Occasionally walked the Lake. Unfortunately, for my waistline, I'd often stop at Andrew's Hamburgers on my home. My South Melbourne connection dates back to the 1880's, with arrival of my paternal Irish ancestors. Father and siblings born across the road from the ground.

Doug's Lifestyle Gym & Andrew's great memories. Bedford of course was more known for frequenting Andrews rather than Doug's Gym.:D Has a stool there with his name on it to this day !

Now first don't apologise we can make it past residents following Swans
Now i did spend a fair bit of time at Doug's Gym working and the famous Doug Wade is one of natures gentleman , but true did probably spend more time at Andrews
Footnote , when in Melbourne Adam Goodes goes to Andrews

The spa there was the one South players used IIRC. Doug was always impeccably dressed. The exercise bikes had a great view of the lake Oval. You could watch Fitzroy players, including Paul Roos, start training.

My Dad's parents, also of Irish ancestry, lived in Danks Street Middle Park. My dad was born on the corner of Mills Street and Canterbury Road, around the corner from the footy club.

Nearly parallels the growth of our club. Back then the area was known, for a time, as Emerald Hill due to the Irish influence (and I think the club may have been at some stage too, as well as being called Cecil). The 1880s of course was our most successful decade of all time and we had the contemporary equivalent of Marcus Bontempelli playing for us: Peter Burns!

If I see one more instance of "the players have too much power" the clubs need to put their foot down bs.

Nothing changes - the players are wanted until they arent and then the club will treat them as commodities to be disposed of as quickly as they can.

They are now the enemy

Hopefully, when it’s all said and done we can extend an olive branch once the two have retired and we can welcome them back someday. The two suited up for us for almost a decade and although we couldn’t win a premiership together, they were two decent young men that contributed positively to our football club. They have every right to feel as they are just as the club had every right to trade them out.

It was tough reading but I’m not surprised with the quotes, Coxy and Keane repeatedly said they were difficult conversations. So could’ve it really been dealt with that much better, especially considering him and Florent were on the other side of the globe during the deadline.

It’s sad but at the end of the day I’m looking forward to some change. It felt like we needed to shake the tree and have an aggressive approach on improving the list given our results. They know it’s a business and still appreciate the club. Both clubs should benefit well off this trade.

The downfall of the AFL system allowing players to refuse a trade practically demands that we have to be rude and blunt towards the players to ‘convince’ them of the opportunities they might have elsewhere. It sucks and I feel horrible for the boys as that’s never the way you’d like to leave the joint but it’s the only way to do it.

For what it’s worth, I think Florent and Hayward should speak to Adam Treloar about how he was kicked out the door at Collingwood before they make a full judgement in how Coxy and Keane managed the situation.

100%.
Not to mention Hayward said he was very, very close to leaving & signing with Carlton at the end of 2024, when he held off signing with us.
So I guess the club have taken advantage of the fact he was considering going & forced us to pay up more than we thought he was worth to the list. Same for Ollie.
The club has played this well I think. Tough calls need to be made.
I've repeated it a number of times. Walking away from 2 GFs absolutely devestated as a fan, I wanted some drastic decisions to be made with some players who represented us in both of those games.
So to get something we wanted, we needed to give up something we loved but with trade value. The Blues (Voss), chased him hard. Those two boys held off for more money & years, we gave it. Now Carlton can pay it.

Couldn't be happier that at least we are being ruthless in order to get where we need to get.
Now should other players get their noses out of joint, BYE BYE!
