I see Newman taking King's spot...Defensive minded forward who can act as a general up there. He's bigger, a better player generally, and more particularly has a much longer/more accurate kick on him. The only downside I see to it is his age means it's only a relatively short term fix.

Newman, while not slow over 20m, is no where near as fast as King. Newy has no right leg, but that nullifys with Kingys no left leg. King is a far stronger tackler. It'd be hard to work out who would be overall better, unless we get to see Newy more. Atm i'd be inclining to stick with Kingy.

Hard to beat Newmans efforts against the Bombers in the NAB game...
Corked leg and still kicked 2/3 ?!?! important goals for us to help seal the game...super effort that... :thumbsu:

I think you are referring to the game against the Hawks.

Newman plays high forward, while Jake plays closer to goal.

Comparing apples with oranges.

Jake's defensive pressure is outstanding.

But Newman's ability to ice big goals is unquestionable.

I'm hoping both are in the side, with Jake at FP and Newman on a wing/HF.

Have read a few people want Ty dropped, which on form is fair enough but we need a backup for Ivan which McG is not, so I wonder if we could see Big O and Maric share the ruck forward roles. with Maric playing more fwd than ruck?

Personally, if it is meant to rain and we went with O and Maric, then McG has to be left out, as neither O or Maric have Ty's athleticism.

Another positive though, is this game will be won in the middle and both those guys are better rucks than Ty.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh I dunno, its too hard.

Logic says - Tyrone Plays
Logic says - Just 2 talls + Nahas,King,S.edwards + Newman
Newman-Petterd could alternate between HBF & HFF

We will have our 3rd tall option in Griffiths if needed, Carlton will go in with Casboult,Hampson & kruezer and play their smalls plus walker as the 3rd tall

Not exactly gospel and didn't appear to be particularly detailed or thorough but on AFL Insider last night they had the top 5 best shots for goal amongst current AFL forwards. Jack came in at #5 and at #1 was none other than.................... *drum roll*.................................. Aaron Edwards.

Yeah I didn't read a lot into that. It must have to be weighted regarrding were the shot is from an adjusted accordingly. Having said that the Porpose, LeCras and Chapman are bloody good kicks for goal and I would through in Bartel for a pressure goal to

A huge amount of research by dunstall wasn't it , list the 5 top percentage conversions inside 50 and state them as YOUR best kicks .

if its gonna rain, 2 talls in jack and ty. i'll back ty in. I still want nahas and king to play. we will need the forward pressure.

Been saying for a while now that we needed to get the 3 talls structure going in our forward line if were going to take the next step. Well last night I saw an example of how that structure is going to benefit us going forward. Last night Jack sacrificed his game to open up the forward line for Vickery in particular and it worked a treat. If Jack Vickery and McGuane are going to get 11 or more scoring shots a week we're going to win more than we lose, especially if they can convert better than the 5.6 they kicked last night.

Spot on.

Now we have space and options.

The next step is to adapt to defences dropping an extra man back (as Carlton did to us in the last quarter).

There are different approaches to this.

But my preferred one is create a wall across HF from five forwards (including our best long kicks) and play the sixth in the goal square (our quickest tall forward preferrably).

Was by far the best has operated since 2010, still had the 3 of them competing against each other on occasions but a remarkable improvement .
