The Future of Aussie Cricket

Guys, I have done a write-up, my first one, for a website called "Sideline" about the Future of Aussie Cricket in my opinion. Thoughts will be apprecitated.

:)

I agree with most of what you wrote, especially in regards to Shane Watson (he's too valuable a player right now, and we do need to lift some of the weight that's on his shoulders) plus the need to put in a solid (in more ways than one) specialist opener in Mark Cosgrove, and Cameron White (I know I'm biased, but he's a good leader).

Tim Paine will get his chance, and could even go into the side as a batsman, if his form with the bat holds up.

But, Jason Krezja's just too expensive as a bowler (although he does get wickets, and he's been bowling pretty well for Tassie), and with the likes of Johnson in the team, we can't afford another bloke who leaks like that, so really the only option is Nathan Hauritz, I.

Peter George is still a bit too raw at the moment, but he's a guy that I would take along for the tour of Sri Lanka & South Africa, and slowly introduce, because having a guy with Chris Tremlett's height, is an advantage.

Overall, it's a good article, and there have been quite a few ones like this on our board (if you avert your gaze from some of the rubbish that's posted here sometimes).

Krazy bowled outstanding in INdia but as I stated thrown onto a seamers pitch against a great batting side, you are going to get carted around. Bowls well now, got like 2/17 of 4 last night in Big Bash

But I am one of those people who stops watching if my team is losing.

Probably not a good way to start and article and hope to get credibility.

A couple of points.

Pick your team, don't sit on the fence.

Explain why test regulars Ponting, Johnson, Clarke and Hussey are being dropped.

Ok, thanks I'll take that in for my next article.:)

Ok.....Mate, this is my first article I have EVER written. There is always mistakes.

Its fine mate. You asked for thoughts. Constructive criticism should always be welcomed especially if you are planning to keep going with it. Good luck and all the best.

I'll keep an eye out on that website. If nothing more it will give your article hits.:thumbsu:

1. Maddinson/Khawaja
2. Cowan/Cosgrove
3. Khawaja/Maddinson
4. Dave Hussey
5. Cameron White
6. Shane Watson
7. Tim Paine
8. Jason Krejza
9. Patrick Cummins
10. Peter George
11. James Pattinson

Not a bad attempt.. However David Hussey and Peter George are more fringe players than potentially test cricketers for mine. Going with youth is a good idea for the state of our test side. So I agree there. My side going by some of your selections would be:

Cosgrove
Maddinson
Khawaja
M. Hussey
White (c)
Watson
Haddin
Johnson
Krejza
Pattinson
Cummins

Selectors in recent times havent been willing to put players in young. If we do this their development will be enourmous in very quick time. Cummins by what Ive seen is closer to test level than most think. His line and length is already better than Johnsons and is already quicker. Get him in!! Pattinson - not sure. Probably not quite ready. I would be more inclined to go with Hazlewood if he if fit. However, he isnt! Looking forward to seeing a pace attack of Pattinson, Hazlewood and Cummins in the years to come that is for sure!! All we need is a quality spinner and we are set for the bowling department. Then we can focus on the development of our young batsmen because that is what is letting us down at the present I feel. We really need the likes of Lynn, Beaton, M. Marsh, Hill, Hughes, Smith ect. to come on. Smith is an interesting one. What I have seen of his bowling in the ODIs has been very impressive and I think his bowling is really developing. If it keeps progressing I think he could come in for Krejza. So my future team would look a little something like this (7 years time or so). No idea on the captain

Maddinson
Hughes
Khawaja
M. Marsh
Lynn
Beaton
Smith
Paine/Wade (wk)
Pattinson
Cummins
Hazlewood

Ok, the website is quite new actually and a friend of mine created it. You better keep an eye on it. :D

Cosgrove destroys (eats) your credibility.

People who continually champion the cause of Cosgrove have not been paying any attention to what's been going on over the years. He has continually ignored the wishes of the ACB and the SACA to get himself in better physical shape and start eating a more healthy diet.

The amazing thing is he's not being asked to do anything difficult, just shed a few kilos, and let's face it, with the folds of blubber he possesses, all he needs to do is knock off the between meal snacks to/from cricket practice, the sugary soft drinks he swallows like there's no tomorrow, and find out the meaning of the word "salad".

He continually exhibits to the ACB that he lacks the discipline to do what is required of a player wanting to compete on the International scene, and will never be selected in his current situation.

Any if anyone starts crapping on about weight not mattering, of course it does. It's obvious that anyone who gets himself really fit will reap the rewards when it comes to sport. Cosgrove is just a lazy, fat, waste of everyone's time.

i would quite inclined to think Krezja's effort in India was a fluke.

He had 1 4-wicket haul in first class cricket before that match, and 2 since. only one 5-for in his whole career in that match.... and it's also worth noting he had bowled like a gorilla for a massive chunk of that innings at did have 3 for about 200 at one stage....

obviously what he did after that was amazing. and in general he can bowl some amazing balls. there's a clip of him bowling a great doosra to khawaja on youtube... but there is so so so much crap in between....
