Well congrats to Carlton, in the end were just better than us on the day.

A Couple of things i'd like to discuss;

1. Even though we lost I''m not all that disapointed. In the end i think we just didn't have the legs to get up over them.

2. I think with all the kids and crabs being played our tackling pressure has dropped right off and this probably also has a little to do with the first one in the fact that we are just run off our feet in the end.

3. Expect more 4th quarter disasters to come with all the kids being played.

4. Geez i'm really impressed with some of our younger players, Hill, Suban, Clarke, Ballantyne all had solid games.

5. Even though we don't like them expect to see more of; Gilmore, Bradley, Head, Campbell, Murphy etc. before seasons end.

6. Would not be suprised if we don't win another game unless we start to get some players back. (Crowley/Palmer - Season. Pavlich/Johnson/Solomon/Mayne/Hayden i would expect to play before seasons end)

7. Good on them for winning, but i still hate <injunction>tank.

8. Ballantyne showed us all that he has some excitment about him. Although probably should of hand passed to Peake instead of going to McPharlin. 3 goals and setting up a couple is a good effort for second game.

9. Suban must take Angry pills before each game... LOVE IT! :D

10. If we don't win another game for the season, we could end up with the spoon. We will probably lose to Melb in Melb and that would put them on 3 wins... so unless we win another game other than that.... we could finish last :(

What are your thoughts? on mine or Add your own!

I think we will beat Melbourne at the G as well as the derby (West Coast won't want to lose their precious priority pick - plus they're shit :p)

That gives us 5 wins, and home games against Brisbane, Essendon and Port Adelaide are all winnable.

Best case scenario - 7 wins. :o

If we lose them all, we'll get the spoon. But we won't.

Forgot to add;

Broughton = Hayden Mk2 !!!!

I think he went back into a pack and took the mark about 3 or 4 times today, was awesome in defense.

Imagine him and Hayden coming out of the backline.... could even swing them foward at times (not that we don't have enough small fowards as it is ;) )

Some good points there Silverscope. I am dissapointed I must admit, however I was suitably impressed with a couple of things -

1. Clarke and Ballantyne - sooo much better than last week. Clarke took a really nice contested mark and did some pretty good things. Balla...kicked three and could have had 2 (?) more. Exciting.

2. Freo got THRASHED by Collingwood last week and really put that bad loss behind them which is good to see.

3. A much better performance by McPharlin and Grover. Both have been treading a fine line the last few weeks but really stepped up today.

4. We ACTUALLY DID put in a huge effort considering the following are out of the best 22 - Pavlich, Hayden, Palmer, Crowley, Solomon, Mayne, Johnson and WE did have the dumb arse brigade out there in Gilmore, Bradley etc.

On a side note, Sandi looked injured for a good part of the 2nd half and they REALLy missed him out there. Hope he comes up for next week.

I'm hoping we don't win another !!
I hope we get number 1 and use it properly, and then I hope we clear out the last bit of shit that we have in the list (you know who they are !!) and then really take a step forward next year.

BTW How good is Broughton !!:thumbsu:

Suban is by far my new favorite player SS!
I love his anger :)

I am a bit dissapointed in the loss. We had them and just needed to settle at the start of that last qtr, but they got the jump and scored a couple of quick goals. That deflated us a fair bit I thought.

I thought the Gilmore/ Bradley experiement had mixed effects on the game. Gilmore probably struggled IMO with the pace of the game. HE looked rushed all the time. I realise he has been out of AFL level for a bit, yet has shown good promise in the WAFL.
Keplar did do some good things in the 1st half, but like McPhalap faded in and out in the 2nd half.

Des..... I dont know what to say really. Was good a one point and the shizzle for much of the other points.... Wasn't a sterling effort by DJ today.

On the plus side:

Broughton was great and has a fair amount of courage going back with the flight.
Suban... ANGRY ANGRY man!
Sandi was dominate b4 getting injured.
Ballas live up to the hype today
Clark did some real good things and seems to have a bit of pace for a bigger player!

Surely you fella's didn't think we were gonna win this game with hacks like, Peake,Thornton,Gilmore and Bradley playing they pretty much helped Carlton win this game.
If Harvey is fair dinkum in playing youngsters he would have played Ruffles who is probably the same size as Hill and has more heart and skill than those four i mentioned put together, because make no mistake when the game was there to be won these hacks cost us big time.

I agree, 6 first year players is just not even close to being enough. Harvey shouldn't stop until he's got 22 players under 10 games.

Does Keplar honestly think he is Kouta with his one hand holding the ball? ****ing hero!!! :(

Gilmore struggled, i agree samseenee, with the pace of the game.

McPharlin pulled his finger out.

Grover although played well.... his opponent kicked 4.3...... so I'd take Grover having 2 possesions and shutting down his opponent over what happened today.

Des Headland...... in a word..... MEH!

Solomon offers more for us than Headland.... So i wouldn't be suprised if it came down to those two it would Solomon who plays for us next year and not Headland.

I thought the biggest positive was that it was the same old names that popped up and made the same old bonehead mistakes. Gilmore, Dodd, Mundy, Bradley, Thornton and Peake all did some inexplicably ordinary morale sapping things out there which cost us the game. The kids aren't the problem (albeit if they're lacking in fitness).

IMO, that's good signs for the future. Shame we don't have a few more kids to replace these guys with. Next year we will.

Yea ok... lets play every kid we have.... and watch our team get pumped by 100+ points....

Two sides to a coin.

Either he plays all the kids and we get thumped.
or
He plays the kids while also giving the crabs a go to see who will be with the club in the future.

Because i know with him playing the crabs atleast we can ease the youngsters into AFL and it allows him to gauge who is going to be at the club come next year.

Gilmore and Bradley will probably not be with us next year but why not make sure they are shit before we dump them, because as i said it allows the younger players to not get overawed by the situation.

Logical IMO.

Fantastic effort by you blokes today, you ought to be bloody happy with how your young guys are coming along. Ballantyne, yes please!

I'd probably go as far as saying that the wrong team was rewarded today. You played a brilliant first quarter and remained fairly competitive for the remainder of the game, apart from patches in the 2nd.

I've always liked Fremantle, and today was proof why there is so much to like - the youth!

Considering your outs, you took it right up the blues, and in the end unlucky to win.

Good game guys.

.

I posed that question a few rounds back, weather DJ would get offered another contract at years end, most said he would but I agree with your sentiments SS...
Like it has been said above Im not against Ruffles, Walter and Pearce being brought in for Bradley, Gilmore and DJ/ Hinkley.

I agree, but greened might not.

Greetings and/or commiserations to all on the Freo forum as a new visitor to this site.

1. I'm just disappointed that we let them so easily in the last quarter. The way they pegged back our 3 goal lead in such a short amount of time early on was quite frustrating.

2. Certainly agree with this. It was evident last week and again this afternoon that we are certainly competitive for periods of a game but can't play a full 4 quarters at this stage. This is frustrating but something I think will improve.

3. I hope not. We've had enough of them in the past season and a half. lol

4. Very impressed with Suban and good to see Ballantyne get more involved than last week.

5. Can't really comment on this game as I missed a bit of it this afternoon. However, we do need the players you have mentioned to step up for the team's sake.

6. I know that draft picks will be important given the changes in draft conditions with the GC coming in but I would still want to avoid the spoon. Realistically, just about any game at Subiaco gives us a chance but the Melbourne game and the derby are the must wins.

7. Not a Carlton fan but you are more gracious in defeat than me. lol

8. As mentioned before, very happy to see Ballantyne get right into the game. Looking forward to seeing more of him thats for sure.

9. Love it too!

10. As above, I'm still confident of missing the spoon. 5-6 wins should be achievable in my view.

I thought Suban's disposal was absolutely shizen today. Love his approach etc, but he needs to pair up with Hinkley and do some extra skill sessions.

Yep pearce walters ruffles

Quarter time 6 goals up my thoughts were every time this year we have got out ahead we have given it back in the second quarter because our intensity drops off. What happened? We gave it back because our intensity dropped off. Again we fail to play a whole game .
I was on thornton watch. Absolutely attrocious game. Unfortunately he gets a goal which makes him look better. this is what he did .
1. carlton first goal results from him kicking to a 4 on 1 against a freo player .
2. fevola gets a mark because thornton flies by like a dish cloth not even making contact.
3.Handballs 10metres backward , whilst running forward ,to silky skills bradley who is surrounded .
4.Carlton player plays on at half forward - Thornton runs straight past him pointing to the square totally oblivious .

I am not saying he was the only older player who played badly . Gilmore wake up !His best play was when unpressurised on the wing picks out a carlton defender 10 metres in the clear. Dont think he has recovered from his bang on the head.
Again its our young players showing the desperation required. Ballantyne comes off almost throwing up from tiredness. How often do you see our older guys like that . He also threw himself at tackles. Broughton was awsome. Clarke showed more.

Same old same old but its still annoyance mixed with optimism for the future .

O yeh they got back in the game because we stopped our quick movement and went back to the repeatedly failed tactics of slowing it down and automatic 1 metre handballs.

credit were credit's due
ballantyne will be fantastic, wow he is freakishly quick and great skills as well, someone to look forward to
if you had pavlich, johnson and a fit sandi, the same 3 guys that kill us every year, you would've killed us. In the 1st as bad as we were you guys were very good
you guys were unlucky in the fact that ratten decided to pull his finger out and give the players a blasting for the 1st time, and that we were coming of our worst loss of the season
Anyways dare i say future is looking good for freo and i sympathise with bottom teams as i know how it is
anyways, **** yeh we won :D but we really never should of lost

2. I think with all the kids and crabs being played our tackling pressure has dropped right off and this probably also has a little to do with the first one in the fact that we are just run off our feet in the end.

Tackle count was 32 - 55 (Carlton's favor)

Players with 0 or 1 tackle;

Tarrant, Gilmore, Mundy, McPharlin, Duffield - All with 0 tackles.
Sandilands, Grover, Ballantyne, Bradley, Thornton, Hill, Dodd - All with 1 tackle.

Honestly not good enough if we are to win games.

Great start but Carlton's midfield gradually got on top, particularly when Sandi was off for an extended period. Gibbs got off the leash, most noticably when Hinkley was matched up on him. Murphy was good all game and Judd simply took the game off us in the last. He is unstoppable in that kind of mood and we had no one of that class to go with him. Ibbotson tried but continued his fairly ordinary form of late.
Encouraging sign from Clarke, Ballantyne, continued good form of DeBoer Hill, decent games from Schammer, Grover, Mcparlin, Mundy, excellence from Brougton, Tarrant, Meh! from Peake, Thornton, Dodd.
Bradley & Gilmore are not AFL quality.
