The Game....

The thing is.... Ive watched a fair few Swans games over the last 2 years.

Hinkley would get a mark around 40m out... look to give it off..... the take the set shot and not make the distance. That is worrying for me.

I want Hinkley to show me:
Explosive paces around the packs
Precise 15-20m kicks (Luke Power style)
Shutdown his man
Needs to become a solid 15 disposal per game player at the very least.

I agree. If Hinckley is an outside player he really needs to improve his footskills. He can't go further until he kicks the ball more precisely.
The recruitment staff would have known his disposal issues at the draft, so therefore it really is a recruitment issue.
But the kid is without doubt the least impressive out of the young'uns tried so far. I hope he proves me wrong as well, but we have to get to the stage where we have 22 players with good foot skills.
We've never had that, most teams haven't.

A couple of years ago when Des was playing in our midfield I criticized him on this board because, as a very experienced premiership player with a big body, earning huge bucks, he was only performing 2 of those 4 points above, and you want a skinny kid in his second year to do it!!! and, BTW I copped a bollocking from all and sundry for criticizing Des.

Have times changed or are different players treated differently on this board???;)

I was on a Melbourne flight that Harves also happened to be on. I had a quick word to him and congratulated him on having the courage to turn over so many players in the one year. He replied that another 12 would be turned over this year! 12!!!
Now I assume this will include rookie spots but that means 26 new players over 2 years.

I wouldn't have thought too many rookies would be delisted. Connolly for sure, but the rest will stay.
And if Harvey's going to get rid of another 11, then we're going to be pretty active come trade time. We've got probably 6-8 spuds with no trade value, but the extra 3 or 4 should get us some 2nd or 3rd round draft picks.

To further put things into perspective for you, at the same point in your namesake Ibbo's career, he wasn't even good enough to get a game in the AFL, in fact he was only just beginning to get a game in the East Freo 1st's after spending 18 months in the ressies.

How silly would we have looked if we traded or delisted Ibbo after 2 years?

Next year Dean?

If you are talking about Mundy and *insert crickets squarking here*

.......

The tone of the conversation indicated most if not all would be replaced through the Draft so you are right in inferring we may have a number of extra picks in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

Im not saying that I want Hinkley to be dropped or delisted at all. We all know that Drum, Campbell, Murphy, Head, Gilmore etc would be ahead of him on the chopping block.

Those are just the four things I look at him to do each game... all within his physical capabilities.

Headland will always be a poor pickup in my eyes. But whatever... there are so many of those.

Ballas pressure in the forward line when he hasn't got the footy is almost as exciting as when he does have the footy. When Harry Taylor kicked that brilliant goal last week Frodo was right on his hammer the whole way. He got shepherded off just before Taylor kicked it.

Um, no, Balla wasn't "on Harry's hammer the whole way". Balla stopped completely, twice, and only re-started the chase after Harry had passed off the second time. At one point Balla was 120m behind Harry, hands on hips, standing still and watching, with his chest puffed out. Easily the weakest display of chasing I've seen all year from a Freo rookie. He got nowhere near HoB until Harry slowed up for the shot on goal. And despite what it looked like on the TV replay, the 'shepherd' that bumped Balla was soft as butter, and nearly 25 metres behind Harry - the overhead angle of the camera makes it look like Balla is much closer than he really was.

As I posted after the game last week, Balla had a garbage first 3 quarters against the Pies - fortunately Chris Scott got stuck into him at 3 quarter time, with the result that Balla put his head down, bum up and chased hard in the fourth quarter. He seems to have carried that hard work on for the whole game this week - which is a great turn-around, 'cause his first three quarters against Collingwood showed a defensive effort that even Fev could have bettered...

**** me. That is some massive change for the club. But IMHO better to be doing it now than in 18 months time. Sad for BoB, Drum, Browne and Foster though...

It's amazing how one simple name can cost a poster all credibility.

Whenever I read that Hinkley is on his last chance or should be delisted, it is a sure sign that the poster has no idea what they are talking about.

His game wasn't even that bad yesterday, it was no worse than some of Suban's this year. Hinkley set up two shots on goal, and had Suban and McPharlin not been so selfish he could have two of his own. Sure he only had 8 disposals, but they were at an efficiency of 88%. Perhaps some people should stop looking solely at the stats sheet, and actually look at the work that a player does off the ball and the positions that they get themselves in.

Pathetic Chris, just pathetic. At least be consistent - either quote stats, and rely on them for your arguments, or say "some people should stop looking solely at the stats sheet". 'Cause at the moment, the stats sheet is the only argument Hinkley has in his favour.

The reason I use Suban as a comparison is because he gets praised no matter how he performs. While someone like Hinkley, seemingly has to be best on ground to get any sort of praise.

I don't think people realise that just because Hinkley is in his second year, doesn't mean he is further developed than guys like Suban or DeBoer. Some people just need to calm down a bit, and treat him as the kid that he is.

Let me get this straight. You bag the carp out of Suban, endlessly, (especially since Bridey boy got a red card), while quoting no actual evidence of when and where Suban has failed, just because other people on here praise Suban?? And Hinkley is a "kid", but Suban, DeBoer and Broughton aren't???

Point me to when Suban squibs a contest. Or doesn't shepherd. Or fails to run hard to back up a team-mate. Or hangs off a contest when he could charge in and help out. Or doesn't back into a pack, instead looking back over his shoulder and grimacing, while mincing about on one foot...

Pick one example of any of the above behaviours, and give me an example of when Suban has done it over the last 14 games. Time of game, opponent and incident. Should be pretty simple for someone of your vast footy insight and knowledge.

Otherwise, if you can't put up hard, rational evidence against Suban, like posters cite against players on here every week, how about you stop flogging a dead horse, leave out the gratuitous abuse of Suban, and defend Hinkley and Mundy with hard facts instead of whining, sooking and crying about how everyone is picking on your little boys???

Spot on Chops...Suban is committed, desperate and hungry for the ball/for the play...He wants to be out there...Hinkley has shown none of this at all...not that I have seen...

Suban is hard at it, aggro as buggery, and a real leader, after only 14 games. Hinkley and Mundy are nowhere near his standard in these areas.

Suban hates losing, will do anything to win and it cuts him to the quick when we dont get over the line. You cant teach his team commitment and will to win and if certain posters cant see his leadership potential then they just dont know anything about team sport.

Yeah, I'm not going to bother replying to most of that. The majority of it just seemed to be old arguments mixed with a few insults. Just a few quick points;

- I think you are confusing me with Bradesmaen. Despite what you seem to believe, I have never gone out of my way to praise Mundy.
- I've never said anything bad about DeBoer or Broughton, and I treat them like any other kid.
- And I don't know how many times I can say this, but I like Suban. I have never bagged the crap out of him. The worst thing I have ever said is that he goes missing during games. Compared to the treatment Hinkley gets, it's like Suban has won a Brownlow.

So my advice to you: don't put words in my mouth and leave the insults out of it. And I see no reason we can't get along.:thumbsu:
