Most of the '98 season, apart from a couple of rotten weeks in the rain during the middle. I can't believe we got within six goals of North in the prelim that year with the side we had.

Most of the '98 season, apart from a couple of rotten weeks in the rain during the middle. I can't believe we got within six goals of North in the prelim that year with the side we had.
Not to mention having a 6 day break and coming up against Friday night specialists who just had two weeks rest.

2000 was so great...

So many authoritative wins. just took teams apart regularly.

I remember sitting in front of a family of 'tosser' Carlton supporters at the Qualifying Final. We weren't expected to win, and boy didn't i hear all about it from those clowns!! We were totally outplayed in the 1st half, but they didn' t really hurt us on the scoreboard. At half time they were joking about how they would be able to head up to Mt. Buller as they wouldn't have to play the following week...

Oh how sweet it was when we proceeded to overrun them after half-time and sent the bastards packing...So much for the Buller trip, tossers...

After Brad Green ripped Carlton apart in the 2nd half, I thought we had the new James Hird on our hands.

Hindsight's a nice thing eh...;)

The other personal favourite was Melbourne v Richmond round 22, 1998 in front of 80,000 people. Another great year, another great game...

We had already booked a spot in the top 8, but the tiges needed to win to make the 8, and we absolutely smashed them to bits :D:D The devastation amongst the Richmond faithful was palpable.

Who could forget the Wiz climbing over Gary Lyon and taking THAT grab? I was up in the top tier of the Southern stand, and i've never seen anyone from any team climb higher than Farmer did then. Unfriggin' beleiveable!!!

I look back at 98 as a real missed opportunity. We hammered the Crows in the Qualifying final, who then went on to win the flag 3 weeks later...

Should've been us :(

That has made my night. That final was the best melbourne win I have ever been to. I think i was pissed for a week after it

Wait til you win a GF lads...the party never stops

yeah thanks... Actually there are parallels between that Melbourne v Carlton QF and the 08' GF. I don't know what the hell the implications of that are, but it just occurred to me...

I think we've got a very solid foundation (in terms of players & coaching) to build on in the next 5 years (more solid than what most people outside the club think...) I guess, it would have seemed an absolute improbability that the Hawks could have won a flag in 08' when Clarko took over.

So I think that's what we're hoping, that the quality of the guys 23 yrs and under will catapult us up the ladder in a few years time. I really think we have enough quality already to get out of the bottom four in 2010 and push for a top 8 spot...

Nice username by the way ;)

i also was there for the woewodin goal. Must say that he had some serious pace back then but in about 5 years time he looked like a treadmill.

People always say how he was lucky to win the brownlow just by results of his performance in the following years but seeing that clip assures just how much of a gun he was when he had that sort of pace.
