It was absolutely scorching today and doesn't look like cooling down anytime soon. In one sense I love summer as you can go outside at will, but when it's this hot, it's quite simply crap. The sun burns like hell.

This is just insane. The inside of the house is hotter than the outside! :(

If it's going to be hot today (which it is obviously), at least break the all time record :)

Overnight temps

In Melbourne it got down to 28.7 at 3:13am (Currently 32.3)

Here in Frankston/Mornington Peninsula it got down to 30.1 just after 3am (which according to the BOM is a record for this area.) Currently 32.4 here.

In Adelaide also had its hottest night on record with a minimum temp of 33.9 at 12:30am(previous record 32.5). Currently 35.9 degrees.

I feel a record breaking day coming on(Mid 40's in Melbourne, Mid to High 40's in Adelaide.)

Well I've turned the heater on the waterbed down to Zero, tonight I'll remove the lambswool underlay and sleep directly on the bladder.

I got up about 4.00am and turned the a/c back on to try and cool the house early. It's a good ole Concrete Housing Commission(but we own it) place so it's hard to cool once it's heated up.

Perth's highest ever recorded maximum was 46.2 on 23 February 1991.

too young to remember it. that wouldve been ****ed though
Yes... I remember it well. I had to do little aths that day. :o

Not many people had air con back then either. We certainly didn't.

2007 Christmas, we had in the hills. The thermometer got up to 48, and there was no air con. :o

My mate was in Northam, and his parents are old school country bumpkins that don't believe in air con. It apparently got to 52... :o

yeah enjoy your 44 today!

lol @ Adelaide: 37.0 already at 5am

geez i though driving to work at 6:30 was bad it was 31.

Not looking forward to driving to a meeting at 10:30 to return back to work at 12:30 and i have no air con in the car :thumbsd:

33 degrees at 7:30 :D

John Brumby has told us to take a day off work, I think we all should listen to the premier.

Bloody mike rann didn't the bastard!

this is shite - everyone at work is in a foul mood.

I feel like i drank 15 beers and had 2 hours sleep.

Went to bed with the house at 24 degrees.... woke up and it was only 28.... but a very hot and stuffy 28. The evap cooling went straight back on (although i didn't have time to enjoy it), managed to do some washing at 7, would imagine it to be dry by now .

Have read tons of ideas on how to keep a house cool, one common theme i've read is to use those reflection shield things that you'd put the inside of a cars front/back window (or on the steering wheel itself), a number of people claim placing them against windows around the house helps remarkably well.

Melbourne and Adelaide are neck and neck so far today.

Melbourne: 37.8 at 10:01am
Adelaide: 37.8 at 9:24am

we used to have a double brick house, and used to go out of a nightime and water the bricks down , until soaked. Worked a treat, house was cooled down to start the next heatwave day.

Edinburgh is a northern suburb of Adelaide. At 3:04am this morning, it was 41.7 there

It's hotter up the norf end of the city i found cos they're on the plains. Lived up there for 2 years. Stifling. No breeze or anything just still and hot

Where do you find out all the records from?
