Now lets not slander and run down Harvey just yet. It can be argued that he is within a rebuilding process and it's important to let the man see his plan through and be given a chance.
However, that loss against Adelaide is demoralising. That's a time warp back to the dark days.
So with some people saying "New Coach" and wanting an experienced coach, why not put a case forward in this thread.
There isn't much available, but if you can suggest a coach that will guide us to a maiden premiership and beyond that's not Harvey, fire away.....

Your not taking last nights lose too well are you NiGHTFuRY.
Go make your self a nice cuppa and take a chill pill.:)

thanks mum, however I have been around long enough to see bad Fremantle losses.
Personally, I havent backed away from Harvey yet as head coach as he in the middle of a rebuild.
There are others who want a coach, so this is where they can suggest someone. It's all hypothetical as the thread title suggests...

I think most of us have been around long enough to remember 1999 – 2001
If and that is a big IF we replaced Harvey, Dean Laidley is the only coach I would want us to chase.

Oh yeah, I remember those years all to well. It was very trendy to be a Freo supporter back then... I remember being abused by WC supporters before the bounce down in the very first derby at Subi I went to with my dad because I wore a Freo scarf...

Laidley seems to get the best out of a squad, but he isn't a premiership coach, which some of the others have stated is essential

Ok which one of these would you pick:

Parkin
Blight
Malthouse
Pagan
Sheedy
Matthews
Williams
Roos
Worsfold
Thompson
Clarkson

The guys in charge backed Harvey to see out his contract about a month ago, going back on this would look very poor as a football department.

I would look at bringing in someone with experience in an assistant role though. Preferably someone with strength in match day coaching. Harvey's weakness seems to be on match day and in reacting to the opposition coach. Not sure who the options would be though, possibly Laidley? Long term, having this by his side would only help Harvey's development as a coach.

Yeah but they also offered Murphy a 2 year contract, which IMO makes them look even worse.

Ok now there is alot of talk about Harvey here and it just got me thinking a bit. It's been over 2 years now since he became head coach, and in that time what has been his greatest ever game?

I just keep thinking back to the first ever game in Adelaide, or the two geelong games, maybe the Carlton game this year at goald coast but apart from that there really hasn't been much. Now in 2 years he has shown two have had 4 good games as a coach, that's not really a good record now is it? the rest he has been outplayed and outwitted.

Now i'm not saying he needs to go, but he needs to vhange something in his repitouir becuase at themoment Harvs 4/44ish isn't good enough

Parko Blight Sheedy are all too old. Just the wear and tear of travel etc would be too much for them! Great footy minds that have done their bit.
Hard to see Roos Thompson or Clarkson moving
Worsfold would never jump to the other side of town. Hard to walk around Perth with that target on your head.
Williams would be a good fit but wants to move to Melb but might chase the $$.
Hard call. I reckon stick with Harvey for a bit. He does know his stuff but needs the cattle

I dont agree with the theory out there that Mathews, Blight, and Sheedy are to old to coach, the Question is would Harvey do better than those blokes i mentioned, i doubt it very much i would opt for Mathews give him the green light to come in and give this club the shake up it needs, and have a look at the assistants give me a break.

When we first hired Harvey, wasn't there a rumour that we were also looking to hire Sheedy in a mentoring capacity?

I may be wrong, but even so that wouldn't have been a bad idea. And it's something we could look at now. An experienced former coach in a mentoring/advisory position could help out Harvs and the assistant coaches. Some fresh ideas never go astray.

Harvey will coach round one 2010 but it will be a big first month for him and the club. Could end up being similar to Wallace this year where it's not a matter of if he'll be sacked but when.

Just like Connolly in 2002 anyone appointed to Fremantle for 2011 would walk into a very good young list.

Yet we had 10 (should have been 11 with Fabian Francis) new players
in 2002.

2 extra rookie spots would have been handy back then.

We had 7 players debut in 2002. We will likely have 12 players debut by the end of this year.

That said, I don't think we've had too many teams take the field this year that have been younger that the average team age of 2002. The 'youth' excuse doesn't work, because we're being destroyed by younger teams than us.

Harvey has to take the blame for the Adelaide debacle, not previous coaches.

im willing to stay on the harvey bandwagon untill mid next year, if we havent improved then its time to move on..... i would have sheedy or matthews in a heartbeat.... with sheeds being the preference

I agree with you KPR, but think Harv's probably needs all of 2010 as well.
If by seasons end next year we are still shite, or shiter than we are now then perhaps... But I think he needs the entire 22 rounds to proove his worth and then do an end of season review.
espically (god forbid) if we have injuries like we do this year!
