Its the mark of the man, and as DanA said: he does everything, one of those being clearances which I think are the least cheap stat you can get.

But doesnt toughness reflect on how he plays, I wouldnt be suprised if Jim has had over 80 contested possies this year.

Seriously, he is a good midfielder not great but good. He will not be great until he shows he can put up with a tag though he will not get this anytime soon because he has better players ahead of him (G.Ablett and Chapman). Most midfielders can get 20+ possession without an opponent, great midfielders do this while getting tagged.

Its funny though, I can compare the Geelong trio to the Brisbane team of 2001-03 and the Great West Coast midfield.

both of the teams have such good players that its impossible to tag.

not saying Geelong is great (have to prove it for a number of years)

but isnt that what a top midfield does? helps out there team mates.

So although he is the highest performing midfielder to date, law of statistics indicates that the majority of members on here do not have him in their team.
There'd be a lot more 'crying' if Judd,West,Kerr or Black had a poor game - and you would've witnessed some of them this week - with Black getting the poor score he got.

Hahaha "ignorant" good call, i can guarantee that if Bartel had a week around 45-55 there would be more whining then if it happened to any other player. The main reason is that he would be the captain!

Jimmy Bartel is my favourite player outside carlton and has been for a while. I watch him very closely.

I have to admit on the weekend he did pick up a few cheap possies from the kick ins. But usaully he is hard at it and gets tons of clearences.

Very couragous as well. Eyes for the ball, and runs back with the flight.

He is a complete player

Bartel is an average player, he gets cheap possies across half back and doesnt hurt teams which is why he will never win a brownlow. yeah he might get the odd goal or two but its not that hard when your not gettin any respect from the opposition. If he was to ever get tagged by a sewell, rawlings, or a godfrey his scores would be prestigiacomo like.

Well said! Bartel is surely leading the Carji Greeves at the moment and would be right up there in the Brownlow. Sure, he might get some uncontested ball, but that's because he works harder than most. Also, is courage cannot be questioned. The pies wished they had him. Least we don't have any bogans like Dale Thomas.

I'm sorry, but are you comparing Jimmy Bartel to Chris Judd. You've got to be kidding. Judd and Jono Brown are in a league of their own. Hell, Bartel isn't even the best player in Geelong. That award would go to Chapman.

Bartel was recruited to Geelong as a highly rated midfielder and he hasn't disappointed in five seasons with his form peaking in 2006 when a second placing in the B&F resulted. He is one of the Cats' best in-and-under players, always ranking highly in contested possessions, clearances and tackles and revels when playing in heavy conditions. Bartel can push forward and kick goals and is the AFL's No.1 ranked midfielder at taking contested marks which adds up to him being one of the AFL's most valuable inside midfielders.

you are focusing to much on the football sense. i don't hate him because he is a great mark, tackler, goal kicker, clearance player, hard ball getter. i hate him because of his dreamteam status. it's simple, i don't have him in my team, therefore i hate him and despite what is said on this thread, i'm sure many people would have the exact same feelings about him

We're not missing the joke, we understand that you would be spewing if you didn't have The Jimmy in your dream team (being #1 and all ) but the comments about being "cheap" "soft" and "uncontested" are very foolish, and let's face it, the ones making those comments aren't joking.
