What is up with this guy and his blatant hatred for the Collingwood Football Club?? I don't think I've ever seen a journalist show more blind hatred for a team in my life. It's in every article he writes. During the year he's written articles on why we can't keep all of our players, when Sidebottom signs he'll write an article about Beams, when Beams signs he'll write an article about Reid, when REid signs he'll go back to writing articles about Cloke. He has spent the better part of the year writing negative stories about us, so much so that one would consider we are the only team in the city where his paper sells. On the weekend covering the game he spent nearly half the article talking about the Andrew Embley duffed kick, now today he writes an article about Adam Goodes and actually states that if Adam Goodes had his normal impact (what is a normal impact??) then the Swans would have won in our last encounter. Then he talks about Tarrant missing the game...Tarrant played the whole game in the forward line.
He has absolutely no idea what he is talking about when it comes to Collingwood and it strikes me that he is actually doing it to rile Collingwood supporters and gain credit with those morons who hate Collingwood just for the sake that they are Collingwood.

Genuine weed of a human being.

Over the years there have been many lazy or inept journalists in Melbourne who attempt to mask their inadequacies by writing a daily piece of fluff about the Pies. It's either this or writing stories about the Melbourne Show or footballers visiting hospitals given their lack of talent. Stevens is just another journalistic dud eking out a crap career at the HUN on our backs. Kinda like a bush tick

You have to believe someone has any relevance to hate them - that certainly doesn't apply here.

Just another hack eking out a pathetic living.

I came on BF today to have a crack at him. That's a terrible error for a journalist.

I can't believe they continue to get away with it. Tarrant played that game up forward. It only took 1 minute to check the stats of the game on footywire to confirm.

Such lazy journalism and he shouldn't get away with it.

Is there any way to email the editor to point out the error?

He must have a soft spot for the Swans, on twitter he was ropeable to Kieren Jack missed out on the All-Australian team, even at one point questioning Dayne Beams' worthiness.

"I'd take K.Jack...better player than Beams too".

He has two soft spots

Between his ears and between his legs

I assume you split your time between working for Greenpeace and World Vision, Jonbe?

It amazes me that some people on these boards continue to read 'independant' journalism and get upset about it. A suggestion to all of you - either limit your readings to collingwoodfc.com.au and the Black and White Magazine, or accept that people who don't have a passion for the club may have a different opinion. But the 'pathetic living' bit seems a bit of a judgmental...

So Tarrant may have played v Syd last time. A simple mistake by Stevens.
So he thinks we will not be able to keep all our players. I think most people would agree with him (I would be staggered if we didn't lose anyone).
So he said that if Adam Goodes had have had his normal impact, Sydney would have won. He is a dual Brownlow medallist and was well down on his usual output. And we only won by 8 points. He is probably pretty close to the mark.

Why do you all take everything written about Collingwood in the media so personally..?

I love reading independant journalism, and I don't mind people being critical of Collingwood at all. With Stevens however, its a sickening obsession.
As much as we all like to think the Herald Sun doesn't sway opinions, it does. Its the most read newspaper in town and his voice extends to a lot of people who don't know any better. He shouldnt make so many mistakes, and he shouldn't so obviously go after the one club for the whole of the year. I mean honestly, Collingwood this year have been an easy target for hack journalists, and Stevens is a hack if ever i've read one.

Actually JB I have a relative working for the Age as a journalist so I'm not completely uninformed. There are journalists and there are hacks and there is a wide gulf in between.

Then please explain why you continue reading him, because I don't understand. Especially if it gets you worked up. There are plenty of blogs about Collingwood from people who have no idea what they are talking about, do you read them too?

There are plenty of writers I consider 'hacks' in the world. Do you know my 'zany' approach to dealing with them? I just don't read them... I recommend it - it really works!

As far as I'm concerned a journalist works to develop a story and a hack just churns out the same old stuff that the sheep will read.

I don't read him or any of the print media but I know a lot of sheep who do unfortunately.

Very simple, it would take him literally two minutes to find out that Tarrant played. Just because it's simple does not make it excuseable. Do you actually read any of his stuff?? It's absolutely obvious if you know how a journalist writes when they are trying to influence by disguising opinion as fact, and this guy does it constantly about Collingwood. Case in point Goodes. You can not say that if Goodes had his "normal impact" Sydney would have won the game. What if Pendlebury had his "normal impact" at the same time?? It's a morons case making the game that simple, and it also underplays the performance of Ben Reid who was fantastic on Goodes in the last game.

This article today has just been the straw that broke the camels back for me. It's all year, its every article including anything Collingwood. Trust me, if you know how to write news/report pieces you know how to tell if someone is trying to push an agenda, and Stevens is, and it's pretty clear its completely negative in regards to collingwood.

Fairandbalanced and Jelly Bean you're both right in some ways.

Mark Stevens is a particularly odious self absobed twerp both in a professional sense and beyond (unfortunately I have a connection with him I can't avoid).

I don't think he is obsessed with being anti Collingwood, he is just a lazy hack and it is easy to take cheap shots at Collingwood to get a story up and sell papers. That's life as a Collingwood supporter unfortunately.

Stevens' lazy approach is nothing compared to fanatical attackes by Caroline Wilson, Mark Robinson and Carlton propagandist Andy Maher. Agreed, the best way to deal with these people is not read them, but that leaves very little to read sometimes and temptation does creep in occasionally.

I am finding with interest Carro's comments at the moment as she appears to be a bit gooey for Bucks (still hates Eddie) and has turned her guns on Malthouse. So maybe she doesn't hate the club as much as certain individual associated with it. Makes her an interesting beast. Robinson is just a pig.

So if Daisy hadn't got injured and played to his 'normal impact' and Swan had played to his 'normal impact' we would have smacked em.

Haha, that is ridiculous Legendstatus, I certainly am a Collingwood supporter, and a passionate one.

I am, however, objective to a fault (it is a characteristic I respect - using logic instead of emotion to assess things), and probably get too caught up in trying to convince others to be the same.

And I will leave this board when I decide to, not at your bidding. I should note that I will probably be leaving this board anyway pretty soon, so you don't have to wait too long.

And I am not sure I fully understand your reference to the appropriateness of my name Jelly Bean, but I won't really worry too much about that.

Yep, this is probably right as well. Assuming (of course) that Goodes played to his actual output and not his normal output.

I think Mark Steven's point is that we shouldn't expect Goodes to necessarily be as quiet as the last time we played them. I agree, he is missing a lot of other variables in that comment, but I don't really think his intent was to in any way try to replicate the entire game given everyone's 'normal' level of output. Just saying that Goodes will probably come to play this week.

Here's hoping he doesn't...

The fact is that the OP has a legit gripe. Stevens failed to do his basic homework and made some rather loose assertions.

In your effort to be clinically objective you fail to acknowledge that, so how do you expect not to get some people offside?

Peace mate, that's just my 2c.

I think it was Stevens who after we won in 2010 did an article on how we built the premiership by bottoming out (tanking) and getting pendles and daisy. No mention of the 7? rookie listed players including the captain.
