Opinion The I Was Wrong thread- Where Tom Atkins posts go to die

Agree.

Happy he's playing well and will admit we are playing better with this smaller more mobile forward line than I thought we would, Stanley drifting forward is a crucial role at times too.

That said one swallow does not make a summer and SK needs to keep doing what is doing.

So glad he's turned the corner
If he keeps it going he will receive a fair bit more attention and planning from the opposition , that will pose a whole new set of hurdles to overcome

No different as Kersten is 23 and already done more in the AFL than what Walker or Vardy have, but Jansen, who is a couple years younger, and started off his career at Brisbane with a back injury is effectively all but finished and those who said he would become a player in time are wrong, wrong, wrong.
I've only disputed two things with Jansen.

A: he didn't deserve a game last year - Stand by that vigorously.
B: he won't play 200 games.

Feel free to bump the latter a decade from now.

You are the one who decided to stick your nose in again, not me. I am only asking the question as to why Kersten can't yet be labelled a success. Guys like Jansen however, they are are already written off as failures. Just an interesting contradiction is all.
Firstly it's a discussion forum, I am free to discuss any topic I see fit am I not?

Secondly where have I written off Jansen? I didn't join in the under/over 10 games discussion. I have only passed comment about his 2015 and a couple of light hearted ribbing posts after that. So my contradiction is where exactly?

How exactly has Kersten "made it". If playing a couple of good games in a row and getting a good run at seniors is making it then GHS has made it, as has Smedts. Check back in 2 months, if he's still playing well then, then I will agree. Not now.

I get what you're saying, give them more time. Which isn't too far removed from what I said about Kersten, to give it more time before claiming he's made it etc.

You're confusing written off/not making it with the belief he won't achieve 200 games with Jansen, they are two separate things entirely, have never said he won't make it as a league footballer but 200 will be a stretch.

I was wrong about "sugar" Shane Kersten..thought we wouldn't be a reliable forward option to make up a forward line with Tom Hawkins

His past month has proven he is capable of a 35-40 goal season if injury free

I believe he will make it. I should not have said 200 games as I know people like yourself will forever use it against me.
If he lands on 150 games, nup, no good, you said 200 :p
People like me, hmmm.

I could have tagged you in any review over the last 3 weeks about your prediction for our game... But I didn't. You're no angel in that department yourself.

Let's just drop it though, broadly we agree about time being needed. I just don't think there's enough atm to suggest SK has reached that point.

Why stop at 3 weeks though, how about we go back to last year, or the year before that one?
I guess it's not favorable to do so is it as a lot of people got their predictions wrong.

Happy to drop it.
I agree, still too early to call Kersten's career. Not only does injury often get the better of these situations, the fact he's put together only one very solid month is what needs to be taken into consideration.

Oh my God, what a gift. Great great set of threads.

FWIW, I felt Playfair was good enough to play AFL in a Spalding-type role, Gillies would be good enough with game time, Lonners would never make it and Tenace would be a S-T-A-R.

Playfair played pretty solid footy for the first half of 2005. That broken jaw against Adelaide just killed his career. Likewise Gillies showed very good promise in 2009. I was convinced Tenace would be a star as well.

Playfair was toilet. I will never forgive him for not getting rid of the ball during the round 21 game at KP in 2007 against Port where Cassisi kicked the goal with about 15 seconds to play. All Playfair had to do was jam it on the boot and we put together a streak of 28 straight wins across 07-08. Shattering stuff.

Weren't we all? Wasn't he deemed by Bomber to be "untouchable" in 2006 or thereabouts, along with the likes of Jimmy and James?

But that was the loss we needed to kick start the finals campaign

I'm finding it quite interesting and funny that the people coming in here telling everyone their wrong are at large the majority who have embarrassed themselves all pre season and for the best part of the start of the season telling us "the sky is falling the sky is falling, Scott is no good sack him we are mediocre at best we will be struggling to make finals" are in here taking pots at others predictions when they made the worst of them all!!

Step forward please the obvious ones we have all been hearing and admit your pessimistic failures.

But then again, some people just leave a bad smell wherever they post regardless of the topic, so please just step up and admit your failures at least before rolling on to your next sook

Ah, it's the You Were Wrong thread...

No it's the I was wrong thread. Crazy has a point.

I would have thought this is the place for people to put their own hand up and admit something. Not to point the finger at others, perhaps other than in good fun.

That was my point too... I think we might have some crossed wires?

Who has been telling people they are wrong?
Haven't looked through the whole thread but it seems everyone is putting their hand and admitting fault.
Also, pre season, embarrassment, sky is falling . . . lol, I guess you are eluding to those who have been doubters of the club this year. Personally, I've already put my hand up. Still, it's only round 7 and given most of us had the team finishing in the eight (I had us scraping into the finals with about 14 wins), finals may not be a pass mark to some. Certainly would be in my view as I really had us struggling this year so more than happy to be embarrassed in that regard.

But as is usually the case with these kind of threads, only recent wrongs are remembered. The ones we got wrong years back are quickly swept under the carpet. I am sure you would have a few of those geelong_crazy, just like us all so if you are going to call out some, perhaps you should be willing to do the same? Go back 3 years ago with your posts, some beauties in there.
