I have just come from the Hendo toast thread.

I was in favour of LH coming to GFC as a FA as I thought his form at Carlton in the last year there was not representative and he could play better than that, but I thought a Rd 1 was too much.

Given his progress this year, I was wrong. He was well worth the pick - especially if it ends up being in the 15-18 range.

He's bought into us as a club and seems to be very happy.

Glad I was wrong about the price. Rd1 pick to Blues is bearing us great fruit right now.

Only last week I questioned Ruggles ability to be a mainstay defender due to a lack of defensive mindset. After tonights game I saw some impressive facets outside of his disposal. A few occasions he defended really well and held his man.

Im going to leave it at a 'I maybe wrong on Ruggles' for now. In a few weeks time I bet I'll be eating my words, I've made so many stinkers already this year.

I was half wrong. I predicted that Hawk would kick 14 goals and Danger would play in the backline against the doggies. Wrong.

Yesterday I predicted Menzel would get the first goal. Menzel would get the most goals .PFD most possessions. Selwood would be BOG, and we would win by 30.

Selwood flattened out in the last quarter. Patrick kicks this unbelievable goal (I'm screaming: Nooooo!!!!!!) to cement his BOG game, Hawkins starts clunking marks and kicking goals (once again, I'm screaming: Nooooo!!!!!!), levelling with Dan and blowing my 30 points win prediction out of the water. I was devastated at the end of the game, and none to happy at some of our players.

Um you weren't wrong yet. For one, we didn't need to trade Menzel to get Dangerfield and two, Menzel could still end up as good a player.

the menzel mention was an aside, thats merely where i first dipped my toes in the 'dangerfield to geelong' stuff. not saying i was wrong because i now wish we had traded the two. menzel was my favourite player for the entirety of his time on the sidelines (jordy murdoch made a brief cameo as number 1 on the 'active player proviso', and is now back to number 2...)

anyway, just ran a quick search on my dangerfield musings from times past, and this outlines what 'i was wrong' about:

i dont get the love for dangerfield. good, honest player, thats about it.

i would never support a straight trade of menzel for dangerfield.

menzel is something special.

and when someone tried to correct me that dangerfield was a bit better that:

i really dont think he is. but thats just my opinion.

well, as per my contribution to the thread, my opinion was dead wrong.

I thought Menzel would come back but get nowhere near the player he was and would be selected more on the hardship than form, then retire after 20/30 games back.
How wrong was I, looks a damn star again and seems to have lost almost nothing.

barmy44, even I did not want to trade Menzel away for Dangerfield at the time you were talking about because Menzel was on track to be one of the best players in the game.
Had he not injured his knees, he may have gone on to become one of the very best just like Dangerfield.

i shouldnt have mentioned menzel in my initial post, it has caused confusion...

what 'i was wrong' about has nothing to do with menzel, he was merely mentioned as how i first came across the dangerfield to geelong stuff and entered the discussion.

'i was wrong' in that i thought dangerfield was an ordinary player, and it was a waste getting him to the club. he is not only having a huge impact of his own, but selwood et al are having bigger impacts as a result.

so, forgetting menzel entirely:

'i didnt want an ordinary footballer halfway through his career like dangerfield taking up the salary cap at geelong. i was wrong.'

nothing to do with the fact that i now believe we should have traded menzel, or that i now believe the trade would have been worth it.

still, i wouldnt want the club to get rid of menzel for anyone or anything, cause he is my favourite player. ive said in the past that id be happy for him to take a list spot until he is 32 without playing another game, cause i think he has earnt being looked after.

long story short - i thought dangerfield to geelong was a mistake, but the mistake was mine.

And you'd have to think that if he stays fit he's only going to improve now that he's in an elite system.

Jimmy- was nearly sure the game had passed him by, that there was hardly a spot he could occupy unless injuries.
He has been great this year, very consistent. Preseasons do help. Lack of injury helps more.
Can almost pump him up again on that Hodge v Bartel thread.
