What makes the incorrect frees from todays match more important than the incorrect frees from round 2?

Both cost teams victory, both from the same season.

I've gotta say that I haven't seen such a disgraceful display of umpiring in a long time. To say that it didn't have an impact on the final result would be a lie. I understand bombers getting enjoyment out of it but if you can take the glasses off for five minutes then if you watched the game you couldn't possibly say it wasn't an appalling display. I had a no care factor in who won this game and it is not a dig at freo but geisch seriously needs to have a chat to the umps in this game

Hopeful not, Ray umpired both grand finals last year. He has quite a high standard. On another note does anyone know why Hayden Kennedy was replaced by the emergency umpire at the game at the Gabba.

Seems to have injured himself - but, did have to return to the field due to a bit of push and shove in the 3rd.

West Coast actually won the free kick count comfortably, they got 19 frees to our 11 frees.

I know the count, I was at the game, they should have received more. Multiple marks not called, in the backs, holdings. Went with a group of Saints and even they felt that WC got fair shafted.

i think supporters of other clubs are showing concern because theyve had enough of poor/biased umpiring deciding the outcome of games. it ruined a great game. the alarming thing is it seems to be happening more frequently than it used to.

Freo had the best few players on the ground who absolutely killed us and Sydney were poor at the end of the third quarter but that started just after Razor Ray paid two shocking free kicks, especially the Grundy-Ballantyne one.

Not at all but if the winning team was clearly the better side over the whole game, then look at it in contest. If anything, the margin was decided today, not the actually winner.

I would be more concerned if the Swans were clearly the better side and the umpires did clearly influence the result to give Freo the win.

Yeah the Whispers in the Sky game was as bad as the Sydney Freo game, if not worse.

I was at that game and the umpiring was disgraceful, they handed Freo about 5 or 6 goals from ridiculously soft free kicks. They ended up winning after the siren when they should never have even been close.

The worst thing is Freo supporters go on about that game like it's their greatest win ever and they even used it in their membership campaign a few years ago, no mention of the umpiring of course.

Bullshit, I watched the game too and West Coast certainly didn't get shafted. Even their own supporters aren't saying they were shafted so why would St Kilda supporters say they were.

Hard to take Essendon supporters opinions about umpiring seriously when they are trying to justify the disgraceful umpiring in the Freo Swans game.

Just got back from the game.

I think everyone's said everything all ready.

I'll just use two examples to highlight everything that is wrong with umpiring today -

- The 50m penalty against Jesse White in the first quarter. White gives away a hands in the back, which was a fair decision. He looks at the umpire because he's not sure whether he got paid the mark. The umpire is standing there with his hands up in front of his face, showing 'hands in the back', which also looks like the signal for a paid mark. At no stage could Jesse White see the umpire actually signify the direction of the free kick. You can see him ask what the decision was. Bzzzzzz. 50m free kick for not getting the ball back quick enough. Keep in mind this happens in the space of about 4 seconds. Ridiculous umpiring that shows all common sense is now ignored.

- The 50m penalty for the water guy getting in the 'protected zone' (I assume that's what it was for). Here's something which has precisely zero impact on the play. I mean, there could not be a more inconsequential thing happening on a football field. All the ump has to do is warn the guy and tell him to watch out next time. Instead.....bzzzzz, 50m penalty. Takes what was a 50/50 shot into a certain goal. For something that had zero impact on the play or any of the players. Pointless.

And if skeletor McPhee doesn't get weeks, it just shows what a farce things have become. Throwing punches like a mad man, directly in front of the emergency umpire who does nothing, then they call a free against Grundy for a love tap.

Which throw decision? Do you mean the rugby pass out of the contest and then the 1 handed punch..just because a player (or 2 in this case) make those sort of skill errors in front of their defensive goals doesn't mean they shouldn't have free kicks paid against them surely?

The amount of games where Razor Ray has ****ed us over it's about time he actually gave us a good run...just I know exactly what will be coming our way the next time he officiates a Fremantle game.

You know what? Yes, yes we were. We dominated the clearances, our spread was good, our skills were relatively clean, our goalkicking was pretty decent. Yeah, we were the ****ing better team today. A lot of games this year we have played pretty poorly but won anyway. Today, the team put in a bloody great effort, they played better than their opponents, and weren't rewarded.

The Swans have been on the bad end of umpiring decisions plenty of times, but I rarely blame the umps for it. The Essendon game in 07 and this one are the only times that I can honestly, truthfully say that we should have won it, and we didn't because of the umpires. It wasn't even the umpires in general. It was one. The other two were pretty good, but Chamberlain was abominable. He's a self-important prick who can suck my big juicy testicles.

Even the Essendon game earlier in the year, which I and several other Swans fans admitted we got lucky in, there were two even teams throughout the entire match and it was one decision near the end. Same with a couple of others. The Swans have had a bit of luck this year, but this wasn't just luck. This was a concrete disadvantage dished out by one umpire in particular.

Just for edification, Essendon fans are not only going on about rd 2 this year. We have been copping exactly what Sydney got today for YEARS at the SCG. To be fair, there is a lot of pent up frustration here.
