The list.
Please help modify it down to the guys who played 200 or more between 1970 and 1990.

I've been working on Glenelg for most of the day as I mentioned in the 'petition' thread and this is what I've come up with.

Players that did not fit the time frame
Taylor, Richens, Colbey, Gibbs (:() , Symonds, Duthy, Chigwidden, West, Bartlett, Hele. I also discovered through another source (yet still on the SANFL site strangely enough) a couple more players that played 200 for the Bays but didn't fit the time frame - Hunt, Johnston and Crabb.

Players that do fit the time frame
Fred Phillis, Cornes ( ), Caldwell, Carey, MacFarlane, Copping, Marshall, Hodgeman, Seebohm. There's also McDermott who fits as a 100 game Crow and a 200 game Glenelg player.

Players I'm unsure about - close calls
Marker - 239 games 1967-78
Voigt - 257 games 1967-79
Wayne Phillis - 218 games 1967-77
Salisbury - 241/248 games (conflicting resources) 1983-92
P.Maynard - 196/217 games (conflicting resources) 1982-91

I guess if someone has year books from those particular years then that would help pinpoint. It is very unlikely that W.Phillis will meet the criteria though.

Others on that list but did not reach 200 with Glenelg
Kuhlmann (102)
Stringer (145)
Weston (196)
Hewett (121)
Christie (101)
Anderson (less than 100)

I couldn't find any info on Clayton Lamb. I did find a list that had all of Glenelg's 100 game players and he wasn't even on that (nor was Schneebichler, but I found info that indicated he played with South Adelaide). I have a 1991 Clayton Lamb Crows card somewhere in storage. If it comes down to it as I recall it had his SANFL stats on the back up to the end of 1990 as the Crows hadn't played any games when the cards were made. I'll just have to find my box of cards... :p

Also, please forgive any ignorance in my research. I learnt a hell of a lot in doing it, but because I've always lived in Victoria I've never seen a lot of SANFL and was largely unfamiliar with the names I was working with.

Do you want to prune out people with no eligible kids as well yet, or just on 200 games in the time frame for now?

Paul Bagshaw's son is in his 30s now. (Played for Sturt as a 17 year old in 1991).

EDIT: Are North Adelaide aligned to the Crows ?

I posted this in another thread.

- These players played 200 games, but too many BEFORE the eligibility period.
Halbert, Short, Schoff, Rigney, Hicks, Adcock, Nelson, Murphy, Burgan.

- These players played 200 games, but too many AFTER the eligibility period.
D. Smith, C. Thredgold. B.Atkinson. B.Lennon. D. Woosnam. A.Geddes

- These players are NOT eligible but WOULD BE if you didn’t have to play the 200 games with the ONE club :

M. Greenslade.(Sturt and Glenelg) M. Nunan (Sturt, North and Norwood). E. Fry (Sturt and South)

- These players are definitely eligible :

P Bagshaw. R Davies. C Casey. M. Graham. J Paynter. R Klomp, Greg Whittlesea.

Was he the Crows first ever draft pick?

Jim West was taken 6 in the 92 midseason draft, and Andrew Geddes at 21 in that draft. He was the 1st non-South Australian in the squad.

The 1st taken in the proper draft ie. the 92 end of season draft was Martin McKinnon at 26. We also got Matthew Powell, Brooke Fogden, Sam Smart and Michael Godden - what a draft!

Only about half of the players eligible for Crows F/S under the SANFL rule are likely to have children in the right age group to be selected by the Crows (ie. turning 17 in 2002 - 2010). I analysed the list for Sturt and Glenelg. This is just a ballpark figure, of course. I remind people not to take such lists of 200 gamers as gospel since AFC has said they have had problems with the accuracy of the data they were using. So if they did, we certainly will too.

Just to throw a spanner in the works.....

Do we miss out on anyone if we change the F/S rule from 70 - 90 to 71 - 91. I.e Player XYZ played 200 games from 70 - 90 but not from 71 - 91?

The reality is, if a FATHER does miss out because of the period change, then a potential son would more than likely way too old to draft.

Non-previously SANFL based player you mean?

I'm being pedantic I know, but Scott Lee and Wayne Wiedemann were initially Victorians, John Klug a Tasmanian, and so on and so forth.

I'm not sure what port people would think - I haven't asked, but another way to attack the father son in this state would be:

Port - gets sons of all Port magpies having played 100 games (in line with Vic clubs) with similar cut of dates (i.e played 100 games prior to 97) - no cutoff for when the player has to be drafted.

Adelaide gets all other clubs players with 200 qualification. No cutoff for when they have to be drafted, but must have played the 200 prior to 91.

Reason I was thinking this way, is due to occassion that Ross Gibbs complained and had Glenelg aligned to AFC instead of PAFC. Would father sons from other non-Port Magpie clubs want their father son selections going to Port or Adelaide.... and more precisely what relationship does say WestAdelaide have with Port Adelaide.

Would this work or would the AFL then increase the number of games played to qualify for AFC.

Vic Crow, I'm fairly certain that Clayton Lamb played for West Adelaide before moving to Glenelg.

John Schneebichler did play for South Adelaide before, very late in his career, moving to Glenelg. Schneebichler would have only played a season (or two) at best for the Bays.

That's why both their Glenelg game statistics will be low.

Bear in mind there is nothing on either the West Adelaide website or the South Adelaide website that says anything about their past players.

From the Crows 1991 Yearbook (p.27):

Clayton Lamb:

Games: 200 - Glenelg 23, West Adelaide 174, State 3.

Interesting that the SANFL have him as a 200 game player, but that includes state games. I think we've come to the conclusion that state games do not count.

1st edit.
Most of what I've got so far has been through the 200 game list on the SANFL site, (it includes state games)
Then referanced through the legends section of footysa.
I have only marked yes to the players who definatly played over 200 club games (one club) between 1970 and 1990.

I really doubt that the club's records are any better than internet searching, If infact anyone is even checking.

Thanks for the help so far.

NO! Which rules out Mick Redden's boy Dennis for us anyway. The good news though (looking far into the future) is that the "little Jarmans" should qualify as Crows F/S.
As a matter of interest Mick Nunan's son Tim did play SANFL for North (1991-1998) he was a handy rover and a dual best and fairest.

Tim was in my geography class at school - did not like a girl being better at footy tipping than him :D

Yes, but the SANFL include state games to make up membership of the SANFL 200 club (which is nothing to do with the AFL). Lamb went onto play another 11 games with the Bays in 91 (but thats outside our alotted era).
