There were some passages of play that showed that he's a dumb footballer ......hospital handballs that put teammates in the gun. Huge momentum killers all because he's Dumb Footballer.

I am sure he is a nice guy but surely that was his last game. Is not AFL standard.

May have shown glimpses as a junior and people saw potential but is very limited in ability, combined with low confidence makes for ugly errors and bad decision making.

Another Zac Clarke in the making. In 10 years we will still be talking about his potential that never converted should we keep him on the list.

I hate sinking the boot in to a Dockers player but if we are serious about this rebuilding business then we need to let him go at year's end. Dare say if Apeness' knee had held up this would have been an easy decision to make.

I think the opposite. His greatest weakness for elite sport is upstairs, and I don't think he can just change how his brain is wired when it comes to playing football.

Tabs is just really not going to work unless we can really work on getting him a paddock to roam around in and (hopefully not drop) mark on the lead. He always seems to do his best work in that kind of roaming one paced way. A lot of it is forward coaching. Remember against the bombers he was on the utterly woeful Matt Dea 1-on-1 a could of times. In this game he was getting sandwiched a fair bit. Still torn on whether he's actually going to be useful but after that bloody game surely you have to just drop him for a couple of weeks. Or maybe Brisbane would be the confidence boost he needs.

But why Meima? So he can have a stinker for the next 3 games after Brissie? No point giving the bloke a false sense of security. He has proven time and time again he can't stand up in big games. He's like the bloke at work that everyone suspects is incompetent and who just goes about his day staying under the radar so he doesn't get found out. He's just not a footballer or doesn't have what it takes for this level.

To be honest , if cam Mac not out of football for a year , I think he is as useless as Tab for a first round pick not sure is fitness or not but he been pretty average with his effort lately . Tab will never be elite but having Griff in ruck did not help him at all .

I wouldn't disagree. CMc's last few weeks have been very ordinary and you could probably add Kersten to that group as well. I think our entire forward line are made to look ordinary because of the pressure downfield, the way we set-up up front and the way the ball is coming in.

But at least the other 2 are footballers. Tabs just looks lost out there.

If we're being honest, Taberner has always only been a placeholder. I think he's a good depth option and could improve to the point where he's consistently 'solid' but we're still yet to lure over/draft our longterm CHF option imo. Our inability to recuit and develop someone better places unfair and unreasonable expectations on someone who was a rookie project player. It's not like he's Paddy McCartin, that truly would be something worth getting shitty over.

anyone who says Ross doesn't play youth, you can just point him at Tabs. Tabs has probably played 3 good games in his entire career and yet he keeps getting a game.

stick a fork in him - he is done. The game today was pathetic and worst thing about it was - it was simply "just another game" for tabs. he has played 30+ games like the one today and yet he still keeps getting a shot.

Mentally he's so anxious and hyped that he does silly things trying to do above and beyond. Wish one of the coaches just sat him down and said 'Look, you're in the team, you're deserving of a spot. Don't look over your shoulder. Play your game.'
There has been glimpses of that with him, and gee it's huge what he can do. But today. Played as if his spot was in huge jeopardy, mentally affecting him. Massive bag of weights on his shoulders.

He has the skill set. He can mark, he can kick well at goals, and he can run all day. But the problem is he overthinks it. Massive mental problem. Hence he drops his marks, loses composure and does amateur stuff.

The gameplan doesn't suit him either.. Freo never have been an easy club to become a leading forward. The delivery is suspect, skills poor. Hence the long bomb and hope.

McCarthy's marking has been absolutely shocking all year. Tabs took 7 contested in a game 3 weeks ago yet it's Tabs who can't mark?

McCarthy's marking has been absolutely shocking all year. Tabs took 7 contested in a game 3 weeks ago yet it's Tabs who can't mark?

Tabs just has a nasty habit of dropping uncontested marks, which really stands out. Compounded by the fact that once he drops one he seems to lose confidence and drop several in a row.

You're right about Taberner but wrong about McCarthy. He's dropped a large number of easy marks this year. People just give him a pass because they like to stick with just 1 whipping boy at once. Only Sandilands and Fyfe are better contested marks than Taberner on our list.

I just made this post on the autopsy thread on why I think McCarthy tends to get more of a pass than Tabs:

For me it's because every now and then McCarthy will bob up and do something really classy - like roving that ball off the contest in the wet last week and snapping the goal.

That's the sort of stuff that a) gives you faith he has the talent to make him persevering with, and b) makes you more tolerant of a quiet game because you know he's capable of pulling out a moment of class that can impact the game when he does get involved.

Also McCarthy is two years younger than Tabs, has had two less preseasons, and is coming off a year out of the game. Because of the hype he came in with some are starting to rate him quite harshly, but really he's just a developing youngster who's still quite raw.

Mccarthy has had a year out of footy, if we are using that excuse for Fyfe's current form then it needs to also be used for Mccarthy.

I don't have an issue with Tabs personally, sure he's a spud but its more of an indictment on the club that they haven't been able to draft a better quality KPF.

Some are when he's in the ruck - which are understandable because he's new to the caper - but part of his role is to be the 2nd ruckman.

The 50m that he gave away when he just jogged past the man with the ball in the centre that cost a goal - those are the kind of switched off things that annoy me more than the dropped marks in the forward line.

Tabular was a rookie player for a reason. He is a WAFL level player who can on occasions be promoted and play a good game but he will never sustain that level at AFL.
He reminds me of Jessie White only not even that good
