For those that follow mark Stevens on twitter you would be well aware of his dislike of compensation picks and in particular anything to do with port. Just wondering if I am the only one that sees in this way because I'm ready to throw my phone at the tv with some of the crap he's been saying

He's just an amateur fan boy rather than a journalist. Most of his stuff is speculative, biased and comes across as ravings of a fan.

He and his butt buddy Ralphy claim PAFC were the FA winners with the picks received. Ralph claimed Pearce should have been 66 and Young 30 yet when you remind them compo was worked out on contract value it's conveniently ignored.

They're also working on the rule "from PAFC, must be shit."

Just listening to the Saturday sports show on AA - a caller asked about Port's needs, mentioned Gillies and Brown from Geelong and Garlett from North - something a little bit different from the usual media speculation. Because it wasn't about Tippett the panel (Rucci, Dillon and Ginever) were a bit confused. They wanted to talk about Campbell, someone had some idea about Brown.

Anyway they said Port needed a tall defender and they started talking about forwards and sure enough Dillon couldn't help himself and asked would you think about ... drum roll ... Fev? Will they ever let go? We'll be getting linked with him 2022.

They didn't bloody answer me, tried to steer the conversation but they seemed to have NFI

They didn't want my opinion on Fev.

'Of the compensation picks handed down on Friday, only one raised eyebrows. Port received a middle second round selection in exchange for Fremantle-bound wingman Danyle Pearce, while Hawthorn only received a third-round selection for Clinton Young, now of Collingwood, who most neutral observers would believe had a better year in 2012. '

Well yeah, if you ignore the facts that Pearce played more games than Young, got more of the ball than Young, did more when he had the ball than Young, and didn't arguably cost his team a Grand Final with a momentum changing mistake in the dying minutes unlike Young.

Clearly this is going to turn into a Shaun Burgoyne thing where Pearce shows exactly the same form at Fremantle as what he did at Port and everyone suddenly says 'Danyle Pearce improves now that he's out of Poort Powaz!'

If they can't swing that deal, perhaps Port's Ben Jacobs or Hawthorn's Stephen Gilham become options as a key defender.

*shakes head*

I've never seen such a thoroughly ordinary player receive as much misplaced kudos as Clinton Young, who is a wildly inferior player to say, Jarrad Schofield who we got absolutely nothing for after a similar wage dispute - let alone Pearce.

So the therapy is not working then Ford? :p

I should know better. And the only thing I ever learn is that those media 'personalities' - including the chief football writer of the tiser - have absolutely no idea what is going on.

From Mcderpetts article in the paper. Suggesting letting Tippet go for nothing is the best option, a show of strength.

That decision will have its critics but this is a pivotal moment in the history of this football club.
They don't come along often but when they do best get them right or as their arch-rivals at Alberton clearly show get it wrong and the consequences will haunt you for many years to come.

We let Stevens go for nothing, yet no one in the Adelaide media wants to point this out as an example. They like ignoring the elephant in the room.

I just want him to fall to the PSD so we can get him. He isn't a free agent.

And then trade him to Sydney next year after he has an 90 goal season for Keiren Jack and a second round pick.

A boy can dream!

Tippett: "I actually love the city of Adelaide...I just hate the ****ing Crows fans with their '19th man' bullshit. So my manager and I sat down and worked out how we could possible engineer a move to Port Adelaide, since we knew the Crows wouldn't trade me to them because of fear of having knitting needles placed in their back. Sydney was the easiest club to nominate that had the 'possibility' of a trade that I knew would never eventuate...leaving me free to go into the PSD and for Port - who has enough cap room to sign Pendlebury to a 5 year deal, to pounce."

"Also, there is no need to worry about my concussions last year, that was just me falling asleep because of a group of granny's were signing the Crows song. Boring shit that."

and is he saying we got it wrong the flipping idiot we got it right there was no way we were going to improve collingwood without getting something, and it didnt hurt us the next year did it

Wait, so he's saying the Crows should let Tippett go for nothing so they can get it right, but Port letting Stevens go for nothing got it wrong? I know the Advertiser loves their hypocrisy, but how the **** did that get to print even in the Advertiser?

I think McDermott is referring to the Williams/Primus coach selection decisions the past few years as pivotal moments that we stuffed up. Hinge Factor moments.

Astounding isn't it!

Maybe it bites in the following years..using Tippett in this case we know its pick 23 ...and we use the phantom draft on BF to look who pick 23 is ( just an example ) Sydney for holding their nerve pick up Tippett keep their player group happy and as a bonus get
Colquhoun at pick 23 ...maybe a 200 game player......yeah, we know not to mess with the Crows:D...you look at each deal on it's merits there is not stand you make that anyones going scare anyone next time you trade.

Posted this on the Adelaide Now comments section of the Compo Picks Rucci article, doubt it will get published though:

What now? Rucci trying to push blame onto Port for the Crows getting the shaft on Tippett. Oh well, the more the Adelaide media panders to the sensitive egos of Crows supporters the better it feels when they inevitably bomb out of the finals next year.

Not to do your job for you Rucci (which you clearly need a hand with) but an interesting article might be about how the Crows (supporters and team) overrate players when now it has been verified that Tippett wasn't the demi-god they all thought he was. Only one team making half-hearted attempts to get him on board? Surely that shows that he was overrated, but no, that would be smart journalism. How about another article on what Dangerfield found in his teeth last Thursday....why not run a whole "Month in the life of Danger" special, that'll get the false teeth chattering. Anyway, better let you get back to trolling AFL forums for ideas.

The total lack of understanding of how the compensation system works from people who are paid to know stuff like that is baffling. Crowvertiser staff, if you're listening, I'll write you up an article on how it works for half the price you're paying these idiots. I'm no expert, but apparently I know more about the system than Rucci does.

I can't believe the way the crows are acting over Tippett. They've been absolutely disgraceful. If I was a player there right now I would be seriously questioning whether they really care for me. I would feel like I belong to a group of well paid individuals who are to be successful and tow the company line or be abused by admin, media and supporters. Leaving a footy club happens, the personal attacks are just ridiculous. Players from other clubs should be viewing this and seeing just how petulant the crows and their admin are.
