We will get benning late in the draft.
It’s only the top 20 bid rule for him right? Not the 40?
Yes (we can match bids after 20). Should still last to Cat B imo but things can always change. Cripps won't be first two rounds either unless some club reaches majorly.

Jon Ralph, Glenn McFarlane and Jay Clark
"Carlton’s Sam Petreveski-Seton has not drawn interest from Fremantle despite speculation so would be unlikely to be part of a Dockers package."

So I'm taking that:
  • no SPS
  • WA focus again likely in the draft
  • Bell will push negotiations, and probably less interest in crabs from Carlton than picks (I'm probably reaching a bit more on this one)

But I though there were multiple media reports across the mid-season saying we were right into SPS. Its like those earlier media reports were ... made up!?!

Yep, I'd rather miss out on finals next year but have an actual decent period of success than trying to top up now. We've lost three decent high profile players recently in Weller (High Profile Trade), Neale & Hill. The time we got burnt is when we used the currency to top up. You generally get more than they are worth so if spend wisely, it will improve your list long term.

Less injuries would more than cover Cerra (Fyfe a decent replacement). Head to the draft and maybe we have a good run for once as well.

One of the reason players keep leaving because we keep having losing seasons and not making finals.

Benning looks alright doesn't he.

I disagree. This is a media comment that isn't back-up by proof.

Weller - No
Neale - Maybe but never stated that. I think he was sick of Lyon and it was a good opportunity to cash in. Brisbane weren't playing finals either at the time.
Hill - No, stated it was his Girlfriend or for the cash. Saints were behind us on the ladder too.
Langdon - Stated home sick but Melbourne finished 2nd last and looked a shambles at the time.
Cerra - Has stated it is a family decision. If it ends up Carlton then it's a No.

All of these players, none went to teams above us on the ladder in that season so I think it is clearly not one of the reasons.

All those lifestyle decisions are easier to make if you are playing in a losing team. You can play in a losing team anywhere so why not play in one at in your preferred city.

All of those lifestyle decisions are easier to put on hold for a season or two if you are going deep into September as you are now faced with possibility of a once-in-a-career chance to be a premiership player.

For instance, take B.Hill.
His partner says "Perth sucks, why are we even here?".
B.Hill: "Because I'm a pro footballer and this is where my job is."
Partner: "You can do your job in a better city and get paid more. You still haven't told me why were are _here_"
B.Hil: "[crickets]". Because there is no legitimate professional reason to devote your career to a losing franchise. If your lifestyle is better in Melbourne and your football isn't going anywhere in Perth, why stay?

I hear ya but I think there's no hiding from it. Losing Cerra has set the rebuild back. But filling holes with substandard (ability wise, mental state, or applicability) trade in players is something we have a lot of experience in and repeating the same mistakes would be folly. I would take a Serong and Freddie any day for a good mid that is exiting even if it further delays overall results. We seem to be good at drafting recently and we should stick we are good at.
Need to cover next season. Honestly think it’s perfect for Frederick in his third year. Banfield showed even with his skill set he can cover. Like the idea of Jl rotating players through the middle the last two games. Don’t have to have players pigeonholed into positions

If that were true, why go to a team that is losing more? It's because teams lower on the ladder are willing to pay more. AFL is a job for the players, the media fairy tale is designed to sell papers.

Carlton in the media...

2010: We scrapped into finals (8th) this year but next year we'll make finals easy!
2011: We are going to make finals next year!
2012: We are going to make finals next year!
2013: See, told you we'd make finals. Yes it was because Essendon got disqualified and we sucked in our final but we will prove we can earn it ourselves next year!
2014: We are going to make finals next year!
2015: We are going to make finals next year!
2016: We are going to make finals next year!
2017: We are going to make finals next year!
2018: We are going to make finals next year!
2019: We are going to make finals next year!
2020: We are going to make finals next year!

So sure enough, like clockwork...

Carlton haven't finished top 4 in a season since 2000.

Really creating a Weller like situation for themselves here aren't they, the Blues..
There is a nice little building of off-field stuff to really bend em over. If Cerra was contracted for a year I'd feel comfortable we were about to royally roger them.

Starting to hold out hope the fact pick 6 is really pick 8 and the off-field stuff of Carlton might get us the max package

What's the max package? Surely Pick 6 & 25 is all we could dream for. I can't see next years 1st get involved or anybody we would actual want come over.

Max package is 6, F1 for Cerra, F2. I think there is very very small chance of this happening and would probably result in a riot on the Carlton board but I think that's closer to his value then numpties coming on here saying 6, SPS for Cerra and 2nd.

Anyone for the article where Tobe reveals why he was delisted?
Can’t copy the full text over but essentially with injured defenders returning next yr (Chapman/Cox/Hamling etc) that there’ll be an oversupply of defenders and a lack of opportunity for him

6 and F1 would be a riot. I can't see that happening but hope it does.

I'd probably be tempted to hand over 25 for that and get a 3rd rounder back. Blue would consider themselves a lock to make finals and it would be fun to death ride them the whole year.

Which is ridiculous from the club expecting to not have 5 injured KPD all at once.

Watson averaged 4.5 games a season for us in his time here, playing half the season this year. Fair to say he wasn't first choice but good on him for getting to the top level for 14 games. I think he will be the sort of player Subiaco end up with who looks a class above their opponents playing at both ends of the ground. Big enough to be dangerous at WAFL level, a bit small at AFL to have the average kick he does. I don't doubt his effort at all.

He is the example of what we should expect from the players we take on the rookie list, and we should be satisfied with the return.

Can you imagine that happening and then us handing them 2 wins again next year. I think I'LL riot then

“If you want to find a generational key forward the percentages tell me you need to select them early”

Aaaaaah. So that's the secret. Here I was thinking the players have to have particular attributes to become key forwards, but it turns out you can make them generational forwards just by using a high draft pick on them.

This should save a fair bit of money from the soft cap, what with being able to sack the scouts and various list management roles.

It might just be me, but I think he has shown more than enough to get a gig at another club if we don't decide to re-rookie him.

When I took the temperature of the crowd post game Watson was one who had his name come up for costing us goals through mistakes. Now I think his competition for that spot in the side, let alone the squad, isn't free from that same issue but a player like Hughes offers a higher level of physicality to Watson.

I'm expecting Hughes to legally iron out Cerra twice in the first game against Carlton. He will already be getting tagged by this point.
