Ben Brown would have to be a real option for us i believe. With 3 to 5 years of football left in him, he might be a bargain. Offer him 350k for two years even if it just gets Hogan to pull his finger out.
I’ve just commented on the Hogan thread.

Do posters genuinely think a forward line of Tabs, Brown and Lobb is going to work?? It’s stupidity of the highest order.

What’s wrong with getting Brown? He kicked 60 goals three years in a row. That’s for North. Kangaroos were garbage this year, so he gets a pass.
It’s not the worst idea in the world. Lobb can still roam as ruck/forward. He had a down year plus he can’t be trusted as second foward.
Hogan is inconsistent on and off the field. Can we trust him?

Let’s look at the ppl driving the Hogan rumours...Brad Hardie, Kim Hagdorn & now Tim Gossage. The first two are absolute muppets and the third has absolutely no clue whatsoever.

Hogan isn’t going anywhere. Has no trade value
#neverforget

Regardless of whether we trust him the club signed him up for three years knowing the risks. He is approaching the age that he should start to make better choices. Bit like Dusty who was throwing chopsticks and getting mixed up with dodgy crowd until about the same age.

Anyway Brown (good player and I like him), but he is as similar player you can find to Tabs. Also I think Brown can rediscover some of the form of 2018/19 but what really showed out in 2020 was that he became very ineffective at defensive pressure. Once the ball hit the ground it was all over. This isn’t exactly Tabs strength either.

One of the reasons put forward by coaching staff that held back Hogan getting a game was weather. Can’t you see the issues presented in wet/windy winter months with Brown, Tabs, Lobb??

Injury will likely take that out of hands but I can’t see each of Hogan, Tabs, Lobb playing against in the rain. More mobility with smaller and likes of Sturt in those wet months.

When we played them every time the ball hit the ground Alex Pearce ran off him.

We could not play him and Lobb in the one forward line.

Brown isn’t an instant in. But the fragility is Darcy/Lobb go down, touchwood, there’s nothing else. It’s good for forward/ruck stocks.

Meek hasn’t played a game. That’s all we have. Darcy, Lobb, Meek. Tabs can’t just be relied on to do it himself.

Even Brown will attract a tall defender much like Cox does for Collingwood. Just need to have better forward structure to crumb the packs.
Don’t get these defensive tenacities for tall fowards. Hawkins is garbage when the ball hits the ground, so is Kennedy. It’s up to Schulz, Fredrick, Crowden those rules. Thats Ross Lyon stuff. Defensive forwards.

Not all of them have to play every week mate. Stupidity of the highest order is closings yourself off to opportunities. Ben Brown is a gun forward. Better that Lobb by far. Having options to choose in form players week by week is smart.

Brown won't go to a side that he isn't an instant in though. makes no sense for him, and given what he likely wants/needs, won't make that much sense for us either

I'm not against having Brown on the list, but he doesn't come for free! It's the price he would cost for the benefit he would bring is the issue.

The Brown's just lost a twin baby in utero. Ben's wife will not be leaving Vic with her support network of family and friends. Don't waste your time arguing about will he/won't he come to Freo, let alone WA

Hence a lot of his issues this year. Totally fair enough but footy is a long way down on his list of priorities now according to my North mates and this is partly the clubs frustration with him.

As you said, he is not coming to an interstate club.

Oh Geez, we’re ‘into’ Ben Brown because Gossage thinks that he would be a good replacement if Hogan doesn’t ‘dot the i’s & cross the t’s’ over the summer.

**** me SEN, is Gossage the only bloke you can get on from WA. Speak to Duffield, at least he gives a **** about what comes out of his mouth.

That's pretty telling, 5 of the remaining sides in finals about the same.
i really don't know why the wa media is so intent on driving Hogan out of the state.

gossage isn’t media anymore. Desperately trying to make himself seem valuable so he can get a new job

I overheard a convo between Karl Langdon & Brett LeCras on Hogan just before Bell pulled out of the first deal. He had a lot of off field issues at the Dees and I followed it up with an ex-team mate of Melbs Prez. Melb couldn’t control him. They were more than happy to part ways.

Let’s not forget everything this young man has been through all while under the microscope of the media. I feel for him, I really do. I’m going to back him in next year. He will show his worth.

Anyone listen to the Open Mike episode with Trent Croad? Quite interesting. My gosh, he really didn’t want to come to the dockers. “Yellow and black blood in my veins” he said.
brereton told him “we’ll get you back in 2 years son” when he signed for us. A dark time in freo history indeed.
