Coming from a big fan of the work JL has done, I will be pissed if we extend him before the end of the year.

- Makes finals, 2 year extension
- Makes top 4, 3 year extension

Why should we possibly extend before the end of this year, he's not going anywhere...

Collingwood should chase Justin hard to replace Buckley. As in the only name on their list, blank cheque, write your own terms chase hard.

He knows them, he has support of the team and the fans already - his work at Freo has only further reinforced the perception that he is the brains behind the success they had.

And if they are serious they throw five years at him because that's the reality of the situation, he needs to work through another rebuild at the Pies.

So if that offer hits the table for our coach who has one year on small cash left with us and over $5m on offer elsewhere - then we extend his deal.

Nah, they aren’t going to offer 5 years for a still unproven coach and he’s not leaving without having seen where he can take this team.

The chances that Longmuir doesn’t get an extension are pretty slim I would think, but I’m not seeing any reason to rush it. Any time in the second half of the season would be fine.

Haselby has gone a little nuts with the accolades though. More inside 50s is nice, but much longer games makes it irrelevant. And dishing praise to Alcock? No point judging the forward improvements until the forwards are actually settled in place.

So far we haven’t had Lobb, misfired playing 2 rucks, have been sacrificing Fyfe forward for little return, have brought back Sturt too early, been kidding ourselves that Treacy is actually a planned piece of our list management strategy, and failed to quite figure out how to handle Walters to get him through his midlife crisis.

Since the trio of JLo, Bell and Garlick have joined up, we have seen:
- the loose cannons all shipped off
- no off-field craziness on the front page of the papers
- positive comments from east states media (not fussed what the local WC suck hole journos think)
- players actually coming back from injury within an actual season
- the best out of the players we were itching to delist (Colyer and Schultz as examples)
- a strong defensive unit even without Pearce and Hamling
- a new mid unit of 22yo and under
- Freddie - he's just a joy to watch
- something that is starting to actually resemble a forward line
- entering F50 more often than not hitting players on leads

and most importantly

- playing a brand/style of footy I am actually really enjoying to watch, win or lose. The rugby style has well and truly left the building.

If the above continues, I'm happy to reward for it and give JLo another 2-3 as appropriate.

JLo's been good but there's still been a couple of bad losses in his first 30 odd games in charge. They can start writing up the contract now but I wouldn't be showing it to his manager just yet.

The comparison was made comparing Lyon’s last year in 2019 and this season to date. Considering we are only 5 games in not much can be read into it.
Although in 2019 we probably took 15% of our marks inside 50 in round 1 against North.

I think the connection piece is showing signs of improvement this season especially at Optus. It’s not just the forwards, we are taking the corridor a lot more and a lot quicker this year. But I agree Hase has gone pretty early with the praise. Lose to North this weekend and this forum will be full of pitchforks and bricks again in no time.

What’s the alternative, sack him after two seasons? We’ll be like Richmond - 1980s Richmond.

100% correct. I've seen enough to know he's no Damien Drum. He get's 5 years minimum in my opinion while the team develops. Although still no real reason to do it in round 5 but I'd be extending by the end of the season.

I would wait untill towards the end of this season but he has earned at least a 1-2 year extension so far, unless we have a dramatic reversal of form by the end of the year.

It’s really way too early to be talking extensions for JL.
Agree. Over the next summer at the very earliest.

For all the positive media spin and game style, we're not much better from a win/loss pov than we were in 2018-2019 under Ross.

Don't get me wrong, I want him extended but going too early could be a disaster - Only got to look at Ross Lyon as an example.

I don’t see the risk of holding off. Other clubs may come knocking but he’s in his home state trying to coaching the club he played for to its first premiership. Unless major division and conflict arise in the next 12 months he’s not going to Collingwood or the Suns even if they throw the kitchen sink at him.

Would prefer to get it do e before the end of season if we go well, before under performing clubs sack their coaches (Collingwood, GWS)
We should wait till we need 1 more win to make the finals and then extend. We will then lose the last 4 games and not make it...Deja vu

His contract is 3 years. You at least wait until this entire season finishes, and preferably wait to see how next year is going.

Ah my bad, I thought his contract was till the end of this season.

Agreed, why the hell did Hase bring this up?
