Agree with the general premise but it’s pretty short sighted to put it all on the result of tonight’s game. We could lose tonight and beat Sydney and Richmond and still be tracking pretty well. Like the Carlton game. It’s not an all-in, it’s one of 22 rounds. The AFL shunning us for 5 years doesn’t make the one crumb they hand out to us mean the making of the club. It’s another step in the journey.

I get what you're saying and it probably was more the tall defenders' fault than Nic Nat, but with 2 minutes to go and 4 points down you need to have a bit of game awareness so he's not blameless either. Is it worth literally losing the game through Goldstein's mark rather than hoping they kick a point and potentially getting a mark and potentially maybe getting some overlap? The risk vs reward doesn't stack up for mine

It's more symptomatic of Nic Nat's issues this year which have been his liability around the ground. He's a media darling cos of his centre square work but it's so easy for his opponent to have impact around the ground if Nic Nat's not running with him
Agreed. His positioning at centre halfback works fine when the game is not on the line and he can be used as an exit kick option from a mark or kick out. its true that the tall defenders should have been enough to kill the contest but they didn't. A lack of game awareness by NN left them with too many bigs in the square to cover and Goldstein took a grab that was only actually contested by the other NM forward.

Lots of issues with that and NN's lack of game awareness that a mark in the square would lose the game for them was a big one. I don't think it was necessarily lazy from a fitness or work ethic perspective. It was lazy from a game awareness perspective though.

Nup, Number 1 ruck must follow Number 1 ruck, in a defensive situation. If Goldstein was the resting ruck, then it is the defenders responsibility, otherwise he is the ruckman wandering into the forward line, and must be followed and manned up.

Look at it this way, the defenders already have 6 players to keep an eye on. When a ruck or rover wanders into this area, they need to be matched up on (hello, that means another ruck + rover), the defenders can’t be expected to watch the movements of 2 or 3 extra players.
Yeah, I agree. Look at the bake Darcy got a couple of times when Grundy ran hard forward. Surely the same set of standards apply to NN especially at the stage of the game? Oh wait he is NN so maybe not?

They need to cut that stupid into music a lot earlier. It is so hard to hear what they are saying until it cuts out.

Producer needs a slap.

actually broke my heart listening to him admitting how much getting delisted broke him, such a brutal business
Don't hate the idea of Griff going forward too, he raises an interesting point

That story of David Walls interviewing him prior to the draft.
Tom, we like ya but we do have questions on your leg speed.

Mate, when the t-train turns on the Jets no one is catching him!

that goal he kicked against Adelaide in 2018 at Optus......it was amazing. I've still got that game recorded on my 2nd recordable DVD machine; think it's the one in storage. Shame it didn't work out, cheers for the memories there though Tom :thumbsu:

More reasons to hate Brad Hardie
You should copy and paste the article so that f**kstain doesn’t get any clicks out of this crap.
Mundy is an AFLCA top 10 player this year. Hardie is a nitwit.

Unpopular opinion: Mundy is greatly benefitting from a midfield set up specifically tailored to make the most of his skill set and it’s one of the reasons when our midfield is down, we get belted.

Bare with me here, Hardie is an idiot and Mundy should go around again but the more I’ve watched our midfield this year, the more I’ve thought we can safely cover the loss of one of Mundy or Cerra, just not both.

Mundy is almost entirely an offensive player now and I think this hurts us more than we think. He really struggles with contested footy and is looking a million bucks when the others like Darcy, Serong and Brayshaw are feeding him but it looks average when they aren’t on top. I think we could move Cerra into his more offensive role, let Serong off the hook and play another mid (like Tucker) do the role he’s currently doing.

This is currently worse because Fyfe is cooked and can’t contest either, so we have two 190cm mids who currently struggle to win contested balls like they used to and it was a major reason we got belted yesterday

I agree with this. Mundy gets exposed badly when the rest are off. Fyfe is clearly injured and shouldn't be playing.

I think all midfielders look slow and get torched when the ball changes direction quickly in a stoppage into the arms of an opponent facing their goal. It's why ruck dominance is so important but also why those tap ons are so damn effective against us.

Part of Mundys longevity is him managing himself and and not going too hard into the contest .
Fyfe drew the short straw on that role play decision ( Mundys disposal far superior though so it’s been a great combination )

West Australian (Jordan McArdle) seems to be saying there's an update on Lobb and Darcy - but there's nothing on Freo's media about it. Article online is subscriber only.

Mundy plays the sweeper role at stoppages, all clubs have them & we were ok with the stoppage numbers last night, but the issue came with the pressure Geelong put on around the contest & the way they covered the release handball to the back of the contest (Mundy).

Clubs set up best users behind the contest so they are able to receive & distribute the ball with relatively little pressure. Geelong played out of their skins last night & we were crap & fumbled. Yes I agree that we set up the stoppage to take advantage of Mundy‘s skills, but its nothing unusual for most clubs. Mundy is our main offensive (attacking) mid.
