the amount of times he is targeted for I50 would be amongst the highest in the league, so his return on I50 would be really low. The goal stat is misleading when he is getting so much supply.
How do they even determine who our forward target is on most entries? Do they assign 1/3 each to Tabs, Treacy and Lobb/Darcy/Meek when they all stand holding hands in the goal square and it gets dropped on their heads. Granted, this is normally where all three of them asked for it to be put.
I suppose when your coach and your forwards coach were ruck/forwards themselves they just allow this as it’s where they also wanted the ball put when they played?

Tabs spent most of the game trying to wrestle Andrews who is as strong as an ox (and able to infringe with impunity). I'm not sure i saw him lead the whole game.

He did it with Daniel Rich...just think about that.
A guy he has 6 inches on, he grabbed his jumper and got out bodied

generally thats when you talk about players "lowering their eyes". But i didn't see any leads for players to kick to. It was just focusing on deep entries.

exactly. Best example would be the 2012 elimination final. Pav would wrestle, shove off his opponent and take a chest mark because he had raw strength.

I did. Not a lot but I saw him lead, Sometimes you see what you want to see.

Tabs had Pav as a mentor. Obviously Tabs didn't listen,
Treacy has Tabs as his mentor . Let that sink in.

Technically Treacy and Tabs are both looking to Hale.

I think the biggest acquisition we should be making this off season is a decent forwards coach

i sit on the wing near the boundary so i can be hard to see when he leads to the opposite pocket. But my point stands he isn't doing many hit up leads.
He usually leads in the wrong direction when he does lead but I think he was running directly towards the kicker (Brayshaw??) when he marked and goaled in the second.

Tabs has been on the list for nearly ten years. Has he ever really challenged for the Coleman.
Tabs is an honest to good forward but he is miles of the Kennedy, Lynch , Reiwalt class.
Look I'm out of this discussion now. My initial response and support of Taberner was in reply quoting someone saying get rid of him and replace with Waterman (not Riewoldt or Kennedy) None of what anyone has said has changed my mind. I think Taberner is better.

No Brayshaw for the Derby

How is that even a suspension, there is no way that you convince me that Brayshaw is going for his eyes here

What a joke
And Selwood gets away with this

This competition is a joke

Not sure you can blame the forward coach for the way the ball gets delivered into the fifty.

Some of the 'passes' on the weekend were anything but.

I saw leads being ignored at times, other times the ball was moved so slow there wasn't enough space to lead to and at times good leads were honoured but the delivery was sh**e.

It's very difficult to compete in the air in pack situations with half a forward line of short people. short people that don't seem to be able to crumb or tackle I might add. Not to mention one member of the forward line on the weekend was drafted in the first three rounds of the draft (a NGA pick too).

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I have NFI why people think Josh Carr is a gun coach and/or aren't questioning his role at the club. He wasn't wanted by Port so went back to SANFL. Sold it as he wanted to coach his own team - people bought it even though most potential AFL coaches stay IN the AFL system. He's got a midfield full of guys that look like guns when we're on top but the system falls down against anyone decent.

All good points, but the inability of the small forwards to lay a tackle inside 50, crumb a pack or even get front and centre is absolutely a forwardline coaching issue

Josh Carr is a clueless selfish meat axe.
Move him on now.
David Hale has done nothing with the forward line in 5 years. The fact there is not even an ounce of pressure in side 50m is an indictment on the coaching panel..
There has been no growth whatsoever. Let's get some success in there with tried & tested personnel.

Should have gotten Dean Solomon as centre coach

Right or wrong move, getting rid of Hale won’t solve a single thing. I wouldn’t be against moving him btw. I don’t think replacing him with an untried assistant will be an improvement though - I’d rather keep Hale.

What we gave up for our forward line on the weekend:
Taberner - rookie draft
Treacy - rookie draft
Schultz - 4th rounder
Meek - 5th rounder
Crowden - 4th rounder
Colyer - traded for a 4th rounder
Henry - Pick 9 (NGA)

It took a guy being in our NGA to actually spend a decent pick on a forward! Of those out of the side Lobb was traded for a couple of pick upgrades (I think it values him at **** all but the early picks would’ve been good - let’s call it an early second) and Sturt was a first rounder.

The whole clubs attitude towards the forward line needs to change for anything to change. That includes list management and the senior coach, not just sacking a guy who may not be any good but we’ll never really know as he’s been given nothing to work with.

The one out I will give Hale is that there is not much he can do about forward 50 pressure with the smalls the club have drafted. That, IMO, is fully on the recruiters.

I'm hopeful West Coast will make Hale an offer he can't refuse, under the misguided impression he has something to do with the school
