Oh the life of a Freo supporter. 1 grand final in 20 odd years - played better but missed all opportunities. No concessions at all from the AFL so it took us about 10 years to even crack a final. Getting turfed out to places like Kardinia Park in Geelong for a final because the whole corporate conglomerate of pen pushers couldn't give a toss frankly. One absolute star who can not seem to keep fit to carry the team on his shoulders.
Drafting blunders to the extent not seen by anyone other team (Croad for pick 1 in the super draft). Picking up a first rounder who decides not to even show up for the flight to the game. Recruits arriving at Perth airport with a surfboard under their arm because they believe they've been drafted by the lifestyle club. Anyone remember Andrew Wills? Geelong got rid of him because he'd run 5 metres forwards, 10 metres sideways, and 20 metres backwards before kicking the ball. Yep, perfect fit for Freo. Colin f##king Silvia. Jack f##king Anthony. Letting Andrew McLeod board a plan back to Adelaide because he was wearing an earring?? Only the Tiger's have come close in terms of drafting ineptitude. Anybody who defends all this with "well, we got Fyfe so they must know what they're doing", well, let's be honest...Fyfe was a fluke. The truth is our coach, Harvey, didn't even want him and he really only came to us because Richmond passed. There was no genius talent identification in drafting Fyfe ladies and gentlemen. He came to us as a half forward flanker, 70kgs dripping wet, because a scout, who no longer works at Freo, somehow got him through. Yes, it was a fluke.
Andrew Demitriou (don't know the spelling and don't care) did not give a flying f##k about the Dockers. Gil is marginally better. The media (7 and West Australian) are ludicrously Eagles centric. (Look at the back page of the Saturday's west for example. The eagles are playing the dockers in a pre season game and there is no mention of the Dockers at all - just a headline on the Eagles).
I am not playing the victim, but let's be honest, like the nerdy kid who sits by himself in the library during recess, we have been marginalised and largely forgotten.

Not only is he unavailable through injury, he has treated the club that has supported him throughout with contempt through the entire injury ordeal.

He played with a broken collarbone for half a season. Not sure how he tried to play hardball with the club. Was one of the last signed players and only signed for one year seems like the opposite of treating a club with contempt to me. It was reported at the time Clarke signed that he knocked back offers from other clubs and that it was his idea to sign for one year as he was backing himself to have a better year and sign a longer extension after 2017. This was reported from a number of sources. Really not sure what the hell Dockerlan1 is on about. Try google if you don't believe me. To me Clarke showed massive loyalty.

Great it's only February and many people are melting - I think some patience is required. This is the first time a new look team has played together with many new players, injured stars coming back in and a new captain. Add our midfield gun Neale and our giant Sandilands to the team and all of a sudden we are not getting killed in the middle. Hopefully Bennell will get on the park then things start looking different.
I don't really expect this type of thread coming out after our first pre-season scratch match .... the game was disappointing but WHO CARES! I have faith that things will turn around and the team will be competitive this year.

GC have Barlow and 2 first year players cutting up for them and we persist with the likes of Suban and Sheridan as if they are going to magically transform into players all of a sudden. I'd play the front office girl in front of them these days.
I'm not sure how much more conservative, obtuse and downright stupid persistence of mediocrity I can take this year.
If we are going to rebuild then f'kn throw out the dross, we know what these players can do and its not good.
Barlow is 10 times the player Suban, Sheridan, Crozier will ever be.

Hard to guage where we are at (Skills, Gameplan, etc) when effort levels are so poor.

I have never seen a team apply so little pressure in the corridor. Even Brisbane at their worst last year were able to block the corridor most of the time. We literally gave Eagles free use of it for the whole game. I can't believe they only beat us by 60pts!

A staple of Fremantle past was protecting the hotspot 30m out in front of goal and forcing the opposition towards the boundary making for a difficult shot on goal. Not this game.

Adding Neale, Sandi, Bennell to the team will make zero difference unless we up the effort and apply pressure. I can't believe we only lost by 60pts!

If we play the next game at that level of intensity I'll seriously start getting worried.

Johno Brown said it, Barrett said it, we all said it... Crozier moving to the half back line last year was a positive for us. We found a spot where he could impact the game positively.

The coaches obviously thought so too because the had him training in the backline all summer.

So where do we play him in the Intraclub and first JLT game... The HFF.

I can only imagine Ross and co are thinking Ibbo and Sutty are still best 22.

I must admit my surprise when hearing that Ross said that we're in the early stages of a 4 year rebuild. Many on here including me, are very happy with the quality of the list and some have even stated its the best list we've ever had! Most see us winning enough games to challenge for top 8.

Sorry Ross but that sounds like an excuse. And as E Shed says, if we are in fact in a rebuild, then play the bloody kids!

The next month will be very interesting. Hopefully we'll see some creative selection and an improvement in effort.

To me I would have thought a good experiment would have been to stack the backline with hbf's like the doggies and see what happens. But with the lack of effort it probably wouldn't have changed much.
