Hawthorn certainly haven’t rebuilt at all. Their average age today was 26 years and nine months. To put things in perspective no other team in the competition this week fielded a team with an average age above 26.
Our average age today was 23 years and 6 months. That was the youngest team out there this week. This shouldn’t a be a reason for optimism imo. Most good teams are 18 to 24 months older than us on average. It’s going to be a long time until we can maintain an average age of around the 25 years mark tbh.
In fairness to that, if you swap Burgoyne with an 18 year old they would drop 1 year, and they would still have won easily.
They have signed a number of mature age players, they will either reload and go top 4 or sit mid table for 4 or 5 years and then bottom out. I think it will be the latter.
