Re: The "Needs a Game at Sandy" Thread.

Can't drop Carroll yet.

Bell does need a run in the ressies. Don't give up on him but he needs a break.

Jamar. Who replaces him?

Davey won't be dropped. He needs to keep playing to get back into form. I don't think that a stint at Sandy would help him that much.

Re: The "Needs a Game at Sandy" Thread.

Jamar
Davey - He needs to get some passion back!
Bell - Needs to pick up some skills. (Hell the whole team does)

Who says?

He won't be in the next Melbourne side to challenge in September, so why bother playing him ahead of the likes of Warnock, Frawley, Martin and Garland now?

Jamar. Who replaces him?
Meesen.

Or promote the beanpole in Spencer.

Meesen.

I'm not sure Meesen has done enough to warrant a spot in the team. I agree, he's the man I'm hoping can give us something in the ruck, but he needs to earn a spot instead of having it handed to him.

Re: The "Needs a Game at Sandy" Thread.

And last but not least Robbo, I thought he turned a corner last week but today he was back to falling over and not chasing at all. May as well play Ben Holland because he will bring the ball to ground around him instead of just letting it passed him. Play Holland 30m out directly infront of the goals, don't let Wonaeamirri get more than 5m away from him and instruct the players to either kick to the other forwards in Davey, Bate, Sylvia, Miller whoever or drop it right on Ben Holland's head. That way when they are completely lost as to what to do with the footy they can bomb it long, it will suit Moloney who does it anyway regardless if anyone is near where he is kicking it.

Re: The "Needs a Game at Sandy" Thread.

Morton - he tries hard and is the future but Buckley deserves a game more at the moment.
Thinking about it, I agree.

Let Cale have a few games in the 2's, get a few wins under his belt and then come back into the seniors.

Re: The "Needs a Game at Sandy" Thread.

Well here you go

Miller - was shit as usual before giving a bit in the last quarter, needs a game at Sandy but we have to pick 22 and therefore he can't be dropped.

You idiot. It's a bit hard to get your hands on the footy when you only get the ball inside 50 13 times in the first half. Brown would look shit if the Lions played like that.

Morton and Bell are two that spring to mind who probably need a few weeks at Sandy. I hope against ALL hope that Buckley is not played. We need skills and he hasn't f*cking got any. Bate, Valenti (promote him!) and Dutchy should all be in contention. Dutchy only because he is a big unit and a target to kick too coming forward.

Re: The "Needs a Game at Sandy" Thread.

Well, we are six rounds in and this is when Bailey and Connolly said that they will re-assess the list before making a decision for the rest of the season. I hope to see a few changes, and some faith in our young guys.

Quick review of our list:

Bartram - Has been playing average but needs the experience, so keep him there.
Bate - Should return soon, and will be a vital inclusion at centre half forward.
Bell - Struggling this season. Maybe a short spell at Sandringham would do him good. Important that we still give him plenty of senior games though.
Bode - Hasn't shown much at senior level. Needs some big performances in the VFL.
Bruce - Won't get dropped, but he needs to lift. Maybe he needs to be settled in one position?
Buckley - Hope to see him back soon. Got some dash and just needs experience.
Carroll - Big call, but we need to drop him to allow other defenders some development time.
Cheney - Don't know how he's going at Sandringham, but wouldn't hurt to give him a game.
Davey - Great one game, poor the next. I don't think dropping him is a good idea. He needs to work through it. Some big forward targets and more inside 50's would help.
Dunn - I wish they'd leave him in one spot so he can develop some sort of consistency. Definately keep him in the team, preferably up forward.
Frawley - Shown a bit in the last two games. Let him play full back for the rest of the season.
Garland - Must show something at senior level or it could be game over at the end of the season.
Green - Play him in the forward line. Period.
Grimes - Currently injured. Ease him back through Sandringham this season.
Holland - Tries hard, but we're going backwards if we play him ahead of younger players.
Jamar - Really just keeping PJ's spot in the side warm. Should get delisted at the end of the year.
Johnson, C - Career on the line. If he doesn't produce, then he'll also get delisted.
Johnson, P - Looked good until injury. Will be a welcome addition to the team.
Jones - Bluey Truscott Medal.
Maric - Might be too raw for this season, but an exciting prospect.
Martin - Interesting player, hope he can develop his game and earn a spot in the backline.
McDonald - Always tries hard but not as effective and consistent as previously. One or two years left at best.
McLean - Working very hard which is good to see, but not standing out. Needs to keep going and the rewards will come.
McNamara - I think he is playing Sandringham reserves at the moment, so probably a long way off right now.
Meesen - A little bit disappointed that he hasn't appeared yet, but did suffer some sort of injury.
Miller - Stick him at full forward and I reckon he has 2-3 goals in him each game.
Moloney - Needs a big year and must add a few more strings to his bow.
Morton - Has shown some good signs, but no need to burn him out. Some VFL action might be beneficial later in the season.
Neitz - Hopefully he returns from injury so he can play a farewell game and then retire gracefully.
Netwon - Has gone backwards this season, but we need to give him some games to test him out.
Petterd - Hasn't seen much action, so he is a player who we must bring back in.
Rivers - Excellent defender who simply needs to stay fit, and receive some support from his teammates.
Robertson - At the crossroads over his career. I don't think he will be dropped, but we need to create other avenues to goal.
Spencer - Rookie. No idea how he's going.
Sylvia - Starting to put some decent games together, but really needs to put his stamp on some contests.
Valenti - Rookie. Tearing it up at Sandringham. Promote and play him immediately.
Warnock - Will be his last season unless he can show something down back.
Weetra - Playing in the Sandringham reserves, I haven't personally seen much in him at all.
Wheatley - The turnover king needs to make way for some youngsters.
Whelan - Injuries and suspensions mean he is not playing regularly, but still in our best 22.
White - Keep him in the side this season, but he might be forced into retirement at the end of the year.
Wonaeamirri - Has played some good games and is an exciting prospect. Play him every week.
Yze - Has to be his last season. Like Holland, we'll be taking a backwards step if we play him.
Zomer - Rookie. Another in the Sandringham reserves who is probably a long way off at this stage.

Can we make a sub thread at this? The "Needs a Game at Melbourne" Thread for the sandringham players?

I propose we demote summers, valenti, saunter and poyas to the melbourne team next week.

I think you mean "promote", Einstein.

Nice to see an honest opinions of our list. Would be interested to here more people's opinions.

Great call on Carroll, if he's not playing on a key forward, what's he doing in our backline?? It must be for his awesome foot skills and unmatched football nous...

Frawley is the future of our backline, should be played at full back for the rest of the year? I didnt see the game yesterday, is it true he was taken off bradshaw in the 2nd half, after doing pretty well early?? That seems too ludicrous even for melbourne

Rivers, the only decent established player in our backline. But has to be made to play key position every week. Apparently did a pretty good job on Brown, which is what he should be doing. Its a waste having him play third tall, double teaming the key forward like against carlton. You sacrifice a player you can afford to not have a big impact for that position, and rivers is too important for us. He has the potential to become our version of Scarlett, best defender as well as "quarter back" set up lots of attacking plays by using the ball well out of defence.

Green must go forward. Enough said

If they refuse the above, then (I can't believe i'm saying this) we might need to play Holland. Only while Neitz is out, at very least he can take the biggest defender to take some pressure off robbo, and if all he does is stick "Trouble" & "Danger" in the air and knock the ball down to for Aussie & Davey and he creates 4 or 5 goals for them, I'd say he'd be doing his job.

I'm aware that this is a backwards step, but i just don't think that Newton or Garland or Dunn experienced enough yet to do even this if they're played out of full forward, they'll just get comprehensively beaten for size and it would do more damage then good.

On those 3, I'm undecided as yet, but we (and by we i mean bailey) needs to choose one of our young players to be our next CHF. I'm leaning more towards Dunn or Bate, but they seem to be intent on playing Dunn in 6 positions per game & Bate as a Midfielder.

Does anyone have any thoughts? My preference is Bate, he takes a strong leading mark & seems to have a big tank. He is essentially the same height & build as Reiwoldt (Reiwoldt has 1cm & 2kg on Bate) and plays a similar style, if left to play as a roaming CHF, why couldn't he become that sort of player for us??

Miller, could be used the same as i suggested for Holland. That's probably a better option. Plop miller in the goal square and develop Bate at CHF.

Robbo, despite being a bit lazy, is still quite easily in our best 22. As above, he just needs the focus off him a little and he'll improve

Sylvia is one of a few positives this year in our more experienced players. Maybe he's realised if he doesn't perform we might get rid of him. Whatever it is, he's a plus

The players i haven't mentioned, mclean, jones, bruce, green, my opinions are similar to the above. They just need some support.

The following players should be put on notice now, they should be told the club will be cleaned out of anyone not getting a regular seniors spot or at least pushing for one. This list should include: Bode, Buckley, Bell, Garland, C Johnson, Pettard, Newton, there's porbably a few more. These guys are all 21 at least this year, if they aren't regulars in the seniors, goodbye.

And we can say goodbye to the following right now: Jamar, Warnock, Holland, Yze, Wheatley, maybe Carroll.

Of the younger players, don't rush them into the side "for the experince". Players like Maric don't seem quite ready, if form warrants inclusion, like valenti, then they should get a game, but not just because we aren't doing so well.

After today's game, I hereby nominate:

Davey NO
Bell Possibly
Jamar NO*
Carroll (no need for him, I'd rather Warnock and Frawley in there) Possibly

Any other takers?
Davey - does a lot of work still so we need him for that.

Bell - I agree hasn't quite been up to it. If a stint at Sandy helps then that's great.

Jamar - If ever their was a player who wasn't going to improve in skills, speed, tap work etc by playing for Sandy it is Jamar. What you see is what you get unfortunately. If there is literally somebody better than Jamar to ruck then let them play ahead of him but dropping him to Sandy to try and improve him is futile.

Carroll - Can easily be replaced I think and is too slow/sloppy to play anywhere else, so yes I agree.

Did anyone else notice Weetra played in the Sandy reserves?

Bell: His awareness is shizenhousen at the moment.

Jamar: Mini Me could ruck better than this Clown, Bring in Martin ASAP.

Did anyone else notice Weetra played in the Sandy reserves?

Yes, quite odd that. I want Cheney in because he basically is Peter Walsh.
Davey maybe to the 2's.
Morton yes.
Jamar might as well. Don't really care if there's no one else.

A certain few players seem to be crying out for a wake up call.

And btw i've been to Sandy training and the matchs and Yze should be congratualted on really mixing in with Sandy, not coming in with a big head and giving it his all like the rest of the blokes to get a spot back wih the MFC.
