All these Clarko rumours just make it harder for everyone involved. It seems a large number of fans still believe that he's coming and all it's doing is setting up for disappointment.

I agree the club should do everything in its power to get the best - and Clarko is that man. Its just not going to happen.

I'm thinking they are just waiting til the footy season has well and truly tied up so they can announce the full coaching line-up in one. They wouldn't want to chuck the name of a rookie coach out there without being able to announce the names around him.

Are you a fan, Van? I bet the panel and the board are not going to settle for that level of doubt.

Obviously I would love to see Clarkson do an about face and announce that he is, after all, coming to Adelaide... But it's not likely to happen.

Given that, I think we just have to trust that the club has done it's homework and selects the best person for the job... But we really won't know if they have until a couple of years from now. Personally, I think I'd actually prefer a Ratten or a Voss to a Bassett or Dew but I'm not going to have a hissy fit about it either way. I'm actually an optimist when it comes to our side and can certainly see us making finals and pushing higher if some things go our way...

Once again we see that a glaring weakness at AFC is expectation management.

The Clarko thing has not just been BF rubbish - initially Wilson backed it and AA has also been hinting at it - and on occasions they have mentioned his name too.

Roo had every chance to douse it yesterday but the statement did nothing but increase speculation.

If they don't have a Clarko there has been plenty of chance to manage the expectation that has been generated.

I think that's very harsh. I think the best manager in the world would have trouble managing the expectations of this board and osme other loony Crows supporters. They can't start commenting on every rumour that comes out, otherwise they would just keep coming.

I will say again, it shouldn't matter how we feel about the appointment when its announced, we should judge it two years later.

We will get crowds and memberships no matter who the coach is. It will be an interesting season next year no matter what.

Whoever we get there will be plenty of "Oh really, not him, he's a spud, so and so would be better etc"....the one exception would be Clarkson, and to a lesser degree Bassett only because of his familiarity and the Norwood factor...anyone else and there are sure to be detractors.

even if we landed clarko there would still be the negative few who would say its not gonna work out because we cant play his game style!
some folks support the club in very strange ways.

Anybody else worried that a 'premiership coach' may mean we are looking at Gary Ayres again? Won a premiership with Port Melbourne...lol

I'm prepared to put some trust in the new order at the AFC.

We've started to talk the talk, I'll give them a chance to walk the walk.

Therefore, I'm prepared to trust that they are going through a rigorous process and will appoint appropriately.

Sure, Clarkson has the runs on the board, but that doesn't mean he'll be the best. For all we know mentally he might feel like building up the Hawks from the bottom to multiple premierships was a hard slog, full of long hours and stress. He might not feel he has it in him to do it all over again.

I think the discussion here coupled with what Clarkson said last night on the footy show proves that; based on the "inside information" people have the crows tuck shop lady has about as much chance as anyone else of being appointed head coach for 2015. I honestly think I'm starting to believe the rhetoric coming out of the club and that they actually haven't approached anyone and don't have anyone lined up.

I'm not saying that they will make a bad decision I just don't think anything is even remotely close to being organised and I don't think we will hear anything in the next few weeks...

IMO the club has managed expectations..... we will not be making public comment on the process

not the clubs fault that it has a supporter base that jumps at everything it reads and hear on a footy internet forum

I think you have hit the nail on the head, people here have been getting carried away over rumours that have no substance behind them. People have formed this belief that we were getting Clarkson based on nothing but just random postings on an internet forum.

I tend to agree, but what did Chapman say we were going to employ? He did set the bar fairly high.

If we don't get Clarkson, Worsfold, Bassett, Cameron, Aish and Ryder then sack Roo and Fagan!

Exactly, they're duds. They're ruining the club and making us a laughing stock. Why sack Sando, if they are bringing in another inexperience coach? It doesn't matter that they did a review and they had no trust in Sando we should of kept him. We should have a new coach now. It doesn't matter they're trying to get the best coaches to build a winning culture. These things happen overnight. We are rabble. Won't anyone think of the children or Lindy?

That premiership coach thing has been taken out of context IMO. Chapman is a nervous public speaker. Blurted out premiership coach either as the coach we hope will be a premiership coach for us or meant it that he's coaching us in the premiership, like the EPL.

AA and MMM have been deplorable ever since the sacking.

This gives me hope it's Bassett!

Bassett with Ratten as his senior offsider…yep, I'm keen.

But the ROK thing has got me thinking it's been Dew all along.

I'm a pretty big fan of Bassett, regardless of his former ties to the club, so I do hope he's involved somehow. I do have slight worries about his temperament though, there has bee squeaks coming out of Collingwood that there's a few players upset with Buckleys attitude and I worry players here will react the same.

Guys I'm generally positive about (not necessarily as senior coach): Clarkson, Bassett, Ratten, Tudor, Francou, Lade, ROK, Cox
Guys I'm ambivalent about: Dew, Longmire, Milburn
Guys I'm not keen on: Sumich (prob unfair, just a vibe)
Guys I just can't figure out but seem too risky: Bolton

As a rule I now take absolutely everything this part-time melodrama-sprouting arse-clown says and apply the opposite forecast.

It has been a remarkably accurate method so far.

Buckley and Sando are more alike being best buddies than anything as opposed to Bassett. You only have to look at the Norwood players and how they hold him in esteem. Can't imagine a Collingwood player doing that for Buckley.
