The Next Big Thing - Jake Stringer

Since he returned from the VFL half way through last season (went for a spell there to find some touch playing exclusively in the midfield) he has kicked 47 goals in 19 games. Not even close to reaching his potential, gun.

Lets see how stringer goes against a team that can actually defend, you played the lions nothing to write home about

Thoughts up until now Eski? Do you think his capable of doing so?

I would be surprised if he did. He is a good young forward in a similar league to Tom Lynch and Cam McCarthy. Playing a couple of good games doesn't make him a top 10 forward, he has a long way to go. Take out his games against Brisbane and Adelaide and he kicked 14 goals in 9 games

So take out the two gigantic bags that he kicked and he only got 14 in 9 games?

47 goals in his last 19 games. Can he kick 50 this season. Most certainly!!

Not to mention we had one of the the toughest draws (might even be the hardest) out of anybody in the first ten weeks. I think Stringer will get close to the 55 goal mark if he is available every week. Kid was just born to kick bags.

47 goals in his last 19 games (since he returned from the VFL team in 2014) is nothing to sneeze at, irrespective of opponent.
The first game of this 19-game streak was game number 20, making the last game game number 38. Imagine how good he'll be when he's at that 100-150 game peak and he's at that age 24-25 physical prowess.

As if Freo wouldn't move heaven and earth to get Stringer.

He is a gun.

Of course we would, he is miles better than any of the young key forwards on our list. Just like how we would move heaven and earth to get McCarthy, Lynch, Bruce etc. Doesn't mean he isn't getting overhyped a bit

I don't understand why we have to immediately declare young players "the next big thing" after they have a good game. Stringer is a good young player who is playing well at the moment, let's just spare a bit of the hyperbole

Don't see him being hyped much apart from BT wanting to bone him. Stringer is up there with McCarthy. Now is he going to be as good as Cameron or Hogan, in my view no, but he is a gun. He has something that a lot of forwards don't have....'he hates to lose'

Name any other young player in the league who has kicked 47 goals in a 19 game streak in which that 19 game streak comes within the first 38 games of their career.

J Cameron would have surpassed this feat pretty comfortably. Had an amazing start to his career.

Hogan is on track, probably McCarthy as well, but Stringer is a different beast as he is not a full-time forward, spends time in the middle as well. Unique player.

Cameron certainly did. 61 goals from games 20-38. Nobody was questioning at the time whether or not he was the next big think like Stringer, it was unanimous that he was.

Hogan's and McCarthy's goal averages are below what Stringer's has been from games 20-38 but obviously both can begin their streak as late as their 20th game, which is going to be either right at the end of this season or the beginning of next season.

None of those three players have kicked those goals from being undersized KPF/midfielder, but rather as genuine KPF's.

Gee the 2012 draft was huge.

GWS will be spewing they drafted two duds with pick 2 and 3 and left Stringer alone.

Actually looking at that, GWS's drafting in this draft is nothing short of atrocious.
