Does the little screen on the controller have a use in game?
Wind Waker you have all your maps items etc on the game pad screen which is good. Mario 3D world you can blow into the controller to uncover certain things.... MK8 it has the map on it, I don't find it useful for that though, I use the Pro Controller for that game anyways. Those are the only 3 games I have right now.

The best use of it for me is in the evening when my Mrs is watching shite on TV, I play on the controller.

Is it a touch screen?

By pro-controller do you mean the one you could plug into the Wii remote?

Cool, thanks for the info guys, gonna seriously weigh it up.

I bought a Wii U last week from Big W and can't recommend it enough.

I bought MK8, Mario 3D and downloaded Zelda: WW.

I've spent so much time playing MK8 and Zelda that I haven't even unwrapped Mario 3D yet, and probably won't for a while, as I'm loving the 2 other games.
Nintendoland is a bit of fun for the 30min I played of it too (came free with the console)

Good time to buy IMO.

I'll try and answer some questions that some may have about the Wii U.

Firstly, it's backwards compatible and if you want to do so, you can import saves and online purchases from the Wii onto the Wii U. The eShop has optimised a few NES/SNES/GBA/DS games to play on the gamepad so you don't need the tv to play these games. Wiimotes and nunchuks still work on the Wii U, although most games (to me, anyway) don't require them. That said, it couldn't hurt to have one or two of them.

The GamePad is pretty nifty, it's basically a tablet I suppose. Has touchscreen, microphone and accelerometer for motion controls. It's surprisingly light and comfortable for it's size, although it's battery life isn't amazing (I think it's four hours). If you can, grab a Wii U Pro Controller which normally run for $50-60 and have a battery life of 80 hours once charged. Also, these controllers can be used not only for Wii U games (not Wii though) and games you can buy on the eShop. I can't rate them enough, I held off buying one for way too long.

Games wise Mario Kart 8 has been the first real big seller, but there's a still a few games worth looking at too.
Super Mario 3D World is fantastic. If you like Mario games, get this.
Pikmin 3 is a quirky, beautiful game. Different but definitely worth a look at.
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is just ****ing amazing. Even if you haven't played a Zelda game before, look at this.

Those three are my absolute favourites that have come out so far. But there is a promotion that if you buy Mario Kart 8 before end of July (I think) you also get to download one of these ten games for free.

There are two different types of Wii U available, basic (white) and premium (black). Basically the premium comes with stands, a sensor bar (necessary if you want to use Wiimotes), larger internal memory (32gb to 8gb, although external is an option too) and Nintendoland game. I haven't looked at prices for a while, but I'm assuming there would be some decent deals getting about now it's end of financial year.

StevenwellerHFC It's coming.

Coming out Thursday in the US, so maybe we'll be getting it this week too. Hopefully.

I emailed EB Games... and they couldn't tell me when the release date in Australia is or if they're stocking it, maybe another store could tell me more?

Been thinking about getting Zombie U as it looks quite good and is cheap but the reviews have been pretty poor. Unsure now.

Went toy shopping for my daughter today at Big W, decided to laybuy the Wii U Premium Markio Kart Bundle.
Total price after my discount was $360, pretty good deal.
Will be able to pay that off easily enough.

Still wanting Donkey Kong, but I've watched a few Pikmin 3 clips and it looks good. Which game should I buy tomorrow after work?

DK gets pretty tough - if you've played through the other DKC games that'll be no problem though.

No wrong choice.

I think I'll go DK. I need a challenge and from the clips I've seen the levels look interesting and the game looks nice.

Ended up going with WW for the MK8 promotion as it turns out Pikmin wouldn't have fit and I sorta want it in physical form anyway.

I'm the exact opposite. I absolutely MUST have a physical copy of WW to add to my endlessly expanding Zelda collection.

I can't decide what freebie to get though. It's between Pikmin, Monster Hunter, New SMB U and The Wonderful 101. Suggestions? Of those four games which will be the cheapest/easiest to pick up physical copies?
