It is interesting how the same media and political voices have gone from claiming Putin's Russia has incredibly sophisticated information warfare capacity - enough to influence a US Presidential election in favour of their "preferred" candidate - to now saying they are hopeless jokes being smashed in this area by Ukraine.

Both can't be true, and the likely answer is that don't have amazing infowar capacity, and are being smashed by Ukraine.

And that thus the whole Putin Put Trump In Power line was absolute crap.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but had covid still been an issue all Russian troops would have had to isolate for 14 days. Crossing the border would have been a much more difficult task as well.

Mmm, if you're a political party, and there's a well-resourced nation-state committed to cyber warfare operations against you, as a general rule you aren't going to be able to keep them out. The US is a military superpower, but its also been susceptible to foreign electoral intervention for some time.

Yeah, the fact that there exists a federal crime to conspire to do an act in preparation for a terrorist act shows that thought crimes do exist in this country, which is pretty troubling I agree. But talking to your jihadi mates about committing a massacre at an Australian army base and sussing them out for guns isn't exactly what I had in mind when I was talking about "thinking for yourself."

I don't blame the Ukrainians, they're a frigging awful spot and they should use any and all propaganda they can to try and get help.

I do suspect they're a step above the Syrian jihadists who almost certainly gassed kids from villages they control to try and force a Western intervention when Putin had them on the run too.

The lesson from here though is not to trust anything the Ukrainians (and most certainly not the Russians for that matter) put out until there's solid evidence.
