Things I learnt today.

It is acceptable to cheer on death squads going after journalists who work for a news organisation you don’t like.

‘’The ghost of Pinochet endorses this view.

I share completely your distaste for comments justifying Putin’s actions, but the I believe the comments you’re referring to were made in jest.

Oh, well pardon me for not noticing the emoji or obvious humour in the idea behind the post.

And considering the justification for Putin’s destruction of a sovereign country in this blog, why would I think it to be a fake, tasteless or otherwise.

Latest statement from Navalny, again urging Russians once again to continue to rally, to "take to the streets, let the whole world see that Putin is not Russia".

"Eight days ago, our country was considered an absolute evil. For eight days, bombs and missiles have been falling on Ukrainian cities. Thousands of people are dying, and no one has figured out why.

And it's all because of one person. Putin disgraces the Russian flag, the Russian language and the word Russia itself. The mad dictator in a matter of days blew all the achievements of Russian scientists, athletes and artists to the wind. For many decades, we are doomed to guilt. Because of Putin, for many now, Russia means War. But it's not.

It was not Russia that attacked Ukraine, but Putin. For many years, he intimidated, arrested, killed Russians. He stole elections and billions. It was Putin who wanted to bomb peaceful cities, kill children and destroy lives. The Russians were not asked if they wanted war. In Russia, which we love and are proud of, millions of people are against this madness. And now their help is needed more than ever. Not only Ukraine, and not even Russia, the whole world needs help. Help in the fight against Putin and his war.

You may be scared, but to succumb to this fear is to side with fascists and murderers. Putin has already robbed Russia of its economy, its relationship with the world, and hope for the future. This is much worse than a fine for a rally, which you, moreover, will be helped to pay. And in bomb shelters and on the front line it is much worse than on days in a special detention center. Don't give in to fear, take to the streets, let the whole world see that Putin is not Russia. Only in this way will we be able to restore honor to our Motherland. Only in this way will each of us be able to preserve our own dignity. He will be able to say that in these most terrible days I remained a person and did not remain silent.

You know, people often ask before rallies: "Well, what will this rally change?" This rally will change us. This rally will change what you say to your children and grandchildren when they ask you about this terrible time. We have to come out for ourselves.

And even if you have already left Russia, because you could no longer put up with the onset of a military dictatorship. Go out in the countries where you live. Show the world that Russians don't want war. Get off in the squares of Berlin, New York, Amsterdam or Melbourne, wherever you are. Now we are all responsible for the future of Russia. For what Russia will be like in the eyes of the whole world.

Every weekday is at 19:00, but most importantly - this Sunday, the sixth of March at 14:00, in the central squares of all cities of Russia and the world. Moscow — Manege Square, St. Petersburg — Gostiny Dvor. For dignity. Against Putin. For Russia. Against war."

What a traitor to his country. I mean NATO, sorry, energy, sorry Nazi’s, old world order. Pick your changing justification that makes Putin ”the man”.

Attempts to create a humanitarian corridor to evacuate people from the strategic port city of Mariupol (Putin's been after it since he annexed Crimea in 2014 - it's been a massive target for him) have failed for a second time. Despite two rounds of ceasefire talks, Russian forces continue to fire, and the people of Mariupol are forced to retreat. Awaiting a third round of talks tomorrow. Hopefully they are finally able to get out. The city is besieged, and without power, and running low on food. Many women, children, hospitals, patients in dire straits there right now.

Protestors continue to take to the streets in Russia, with thousands arrested and jailed. Protests against the war in Ukraine have taken place in 35 cities across Russia.

Wikipedia has a very good in-depth page on the protests happening in Russia right now. Well worth a look.

Kira Rudik is a Ukrainian member of Parliament who has remained in Kiev along with many other MPs, all of whom continue to do their job of upholding the Ukrainian Government, whilst simultaneously learning how to fire weapons for the first time in their lives.

Props to her, and to all the women who've decided they're going to stay and help defend their country. The times they are a changing.

Death toll now at 63 and expected to climb. Another 200 injured.

Has Australia changed its stance on Pakistani refugees? 15 years ago we used to knock back Afghans on flimsy evidence that we believed they were actually from Pakistan.

Nah, no change I'm aware of.

Interesting that folks are stanning the racist Navalny.

This is vital.

Putin isn't just a Mad Evil Man who appeared from nowhere.

Listening to you lecture on morality is like listening to the Catholic Church talk about the sanctity of the confessional.

So you either don't know about Navalny's long record of disgustingly racist comments or you don't care and thus tacitly support them.

Before we get into my morality can we clear that one up first?

I suspect it is the former.

Noting that being lectured on morality by someone in the same organisation that produced Ben Roberts Smith is like being told how doping control works by an Essendon supporter

This is interesting, especially the second tweet: "First of all, I want to examine where the questioning of Putin’s rationality started. I think it began because most people, particularly in the West, view his decision to invade Ukraine as utterly irrational. I disagree. It’s horrific, but not irrational."

Up until trump, the way to show the world you were weak, lonely and afraid was to rattle out the threat of nuclear war..
Either Putin took a leaf out of his book or once the invasion started realised the miscalculation.

dreaming of the ole ussr might’ve just made russia a proxy state for maos cultural revolution.. interesting times.

Syrians and Afghans and Congolese and Tamils who carried on life during brutal wars and insurgencies, meh.

But look, white people getting married during the same makes them SUPERHUMAN.

Ffs.

I do not support racisim in any way shape or form. Is that clear enough for you?

By the same token, his racism does not justify the murder of Ukrainian citizens by a sociopathic dictator either.

Is that clear enough for you.

You pathetic levels of whataboutism is only bettered by Trumpeteers and their delusions on their orange god.

If you don't support racism in any way, then you can stop your stanning of Navalny.

Amnesty don't consider him a prisoner of conscience.

And just lol at "whataboutism" when you invent a link between me pointing out some inconvenient facts about him and the murder of of Ukrainian citizens by a sociopathic dictator.

Putin is indeed a dictator. He almost certainly is sociopathic (like all politicians and especially ex KGB type).

Navalny is a racist crook now being pumped by the West as part of the ongoing conflict with Russia.
