I think people are simply trying to use old metrics to gauge popularity and popular culture imprinting when there's entirely new ways.

Jump on youtube or look up podcasts for various topics and you'll find dozens upon dozens of fan blogs, podcasts, shows, etc. etc. discussing and dissecting this content. Then you can look at the comments and views for each of those. Then you can look at the sales for the toys, books, clothes, music, etc. that each of them has. And then you can look at the sheer volume of dollars they rake in.

JD makes good points elaborating on what I said. Frozen was a bit of a craze, as was bloody One Direction if you look at music, but somehow neither touched the public consciousness as either the Beatles or Star Wars. Maybe it is because we have reached a point of entertainment saturation
must have been a big change to go from watching mash and dads army to Star Wars mate.

I was 5 when SW came out. It was a big ask going from the Wombles and the Mr Men to it though
those were the days. When pringles filled the can and didnt have a plastic aftertaste.

Wow no celebrity deaths overnight. I was still coming to terms with George Michael when I learnt that one of my favourites, Greg Lake, had died in early December. I didn't even see it make me he news, I guess we've reached celebrity death saturation this year or prog rock Gods don't count :(

What is Obama playing at with the Russians? Is his one remaining goal to destabilise the world before he leaves office? What a jackarse

There is still tremendous hype for Star Wars but I feel like because of how things have changed in the last 40ish years, there's such a wide range of things out there now, it's less noticeable I guess.

For example, in the 70s the way to show you liked something was to buy t-shirts or toys of it. Now, you can hit like on Facebook and just talk with other fans online and express your interest that way.

Plus the changing face of entertainment means that of course less kids are playing with toys and moving more to iPad apps and video games than sitting down with action figures or whatever and playing.

This sounds like bullshit to me. As others have asked do you have a phone line in the apartment? If so you can definitely get ADSL internet. You will need to get the phone line activated by Telstra first, then either get an ADSL/home phone bundle deal or have it converted to a NODE line and get Naked DSL (this is what I did at our place).

As a new development there should be NBN cabling run from you apartment to the buildings MDF (Main Distribution Frame) so that when the NBN does come to your street you can have access to it immediately. Most ISPs will switch you over to it as soon as it becomes available.
Yeah, going to suss things out when we get our walkthrough.

Fwiw, I went to a 10:30 session for Rogue One after it had been out for 2ish weeks and it was full. There's obviously still a big following for it.

I rewatched Suicide Squad last night - what an absolutely steaming pile of shit that was.
