Used to watch reality TV then it became stale and over saturated. 3 seasons of Masterchef and it became boring. X Factor/Talent/Dance/Idol etc surely saturation eventually turns people off it, it's all the same stuff really.

The Block was ok but it gave me the shits constantly going over its finish time by like 15-20 minutes. Personally I'm over reality TV. The bachelor, Seven year Switch, House Rules, MKR etc etc have not watched an episode. Much rather Netflix and Foxtel have realised this having expanded their sports channels.

Foxtel know without sport consumers can get a good portion of their content elsewhere.
Look what they've latched onto as well. Champions league/Europa League, other European soccer, NRL, Super Rugby, AFL, away Aus cricket series and international tournaments, MLB/NBA/NFL, Motorsport, Golf. It's a smorgasbord of sport that attracts consumers en masse as it's likely to have something to appeal to you (if you're a sports fan).

The game changer will be if a streaming service ever gets hold of the rights to one of the major sports deals in this country then watch what happens.

Apart from sport how many shows would you watch on FTA excluding news programs??
I cannot think of one at present. Even a FTA staple in The Footy Show is now struggling for ratings.

I'm not talking about your personal taste, Ten gets huge ratings out of Masterchef and Bachelor programming.

They probably do but it's nowhere near enough to make a successful network.

There's a reason seven paid over 2bn for the last AFL rights and it's the same reason 10 has slowly declined since losing those rights.

It's not about my own preferences, simply put sport rates and networks pay through the nose to get them.

Roy Morgan had a study last year that showed that Foxtel is in 1/3 homes... all the Foxtel sports channels combined had an OzTAM 5 city market share of 4.8. Channel 10 was 10.6 despite presumably having near 100% reach for households with TV's

I understand what you're saying, my point is that reality tv as well as sport rate - no coincidence that both are a form of 'live' entertainment, or something locally produced that there is no point watching at a later date. Bach and Masterchef amongst others are big ratings winners for 10, but their mismanagement of their other products is what has seen their decline.

Yeah reality TV is garbage.

You watch Goggle Box which is reality TV.

And again, personal opinion aside, it rates well which was all that the point was.

I almost never watch network tv now. I've got Netflix and download/stream if I want something. I can watch what I want when I want instead of waiting for scheduled programming.

Same, don't think I've watched anything on Ch.10 apart from sport like the BBL

The problem with their reality shows that do rate well is they no longer stay cheap to make when the show gets bigger and bigger. The hosts and producers rates would be a lot higher on season 247 of Masterchef than it was on season 1.

But like magma said its tanking on us shows that's hurt them most. Do they even have a drama/comedy worth watching over what Netflix and other streaming sites have on their catalogues?

Yeah I havent watch FTA television in years and years. Not sure why anybody would. If I want to watch anything, I can find a stream, I can download or I have netflix.

Why stream something you can watch in HD? Weird thought process.

Has anyone played the campaign mode of Battlefield 1? Finally got around to it - the Aussie act was superb!

Found the Italian one a lot more difficult but got through it last night. Started Lawrence of Arabia after that.

I might get it - what's online like?

Not gonna be there any more :(

And I am far too poor to afford it.
