We’re using AI a bit at work. It’s got some great benefits no doubt. But to me if companies rely too much on AI instead of people they could be in deep shit down the track. They will suffer damage to their brand if they rely on it. They will have huge gaps in institutional knowledge, deep knowledge and nuances that only experience can give you. Strategy, tricks of the business etc will be lacking. And it creates shit if you let it. Ask that idiot law firm where it didn’t check that AI had created law cases and presente it in court.

It has its uses and some of the stuff it does is yes going to replace jobs but it’s to help people not takeover. It’s a big mistake a lot of companies are going to find out
Yeah the institutional knowledge is the bit that gives me faith we can't be completely replaced. I do think there could be a period where companies get over confident before correcting though. Fingers crossed it doesn't go too crazy. Ironically the jobs most at risk are the coders who created these systems..

I think the problem is that we will end up training AI. I see it kind of like manual labour. Once upon a time there were 20 blokes with a shovel, now you have one guy with a bobcat. They'll run the AI, it will do 90% of the job, then there will be a few people left to correct its mistakes and sign off the other 10% of the more complex stuff. The AI will get smarter over time with your input until very few people will be needed in comparison to the current status quo.

We are travelling in March & have just been told Mrs Zidane needs a British passport because the rules change 26 Feb...

Are your flights still scheduled to happen?

I would like to attend a family funeral in the UK later this month. I can see reasonably priced flights through the Middle East but when I check there's a lot of cancellations. Other routes through South-East Asia are either booked solid or very expensive.

Don't you live in the UK?

Anyone else find themselves in this weird purgatory state of just wtf is happening in the world? Like all this Epstein shit, our failing government in Australia, the war in Iran, the cost of everything just being ridiculous and showing no signs of slowing down, fuel shortage. Feels like you’re down for the count and just copping cheap shots left right and centre.

Really feeling the bloody pinch.

Said this to my wife yesterday - on top of the AI existentialism I was already feeling and raised here the other week, we now have Iran which is impacting petrol and showing signs of impacting supply chain for shopping as well. Just feels like surely there's a breaking point as I suspect interest rates are going up tomorrow and then again in the next few months, and surely people start cracking?

We also just had our fridge die AND rubbish didn't get collected at our place last week (both completely irrelevant to everything else) but just meant we were sort of going meal to meal either eating out or buying single serving stuff, and everything's just felt very weird all of a sudden.

The dominance of AI, which should be merely a supportive aid not something that erodes present and future jobs and industries for actual live beings.

The state of the political sphere nationally and at state level where neither party is in a position where we should be voting for them.

The sorry state with which Victoria is in atm. Whereby our government turns a blind eye to billions of big build funds corruptly finding their way into the hands of the CFMEU. Where the salt in the wound is being voted most liveable city while having the worst state debt in the nation. High crime rates, the aforementioned corruption, quarantine class actions... and our dunce of a premier gets a payrise to make herself the highest paid premier in the nation.

We're so backwards as a country as well. Only 2 oil refineries in the whole nation, haven't met the target for 90 days oil reserves for close to 15 years, making both parties culpable to this ineptitude. We give subsidies and tax breaks to the super wealthy and large conglomerate resource companies while charging our kids a fortune to attend uni and then as a kicker due to previous governments bad choices they can struggle their whole working lives to buy a house.

Our largest resource companies aren't even Aussie owned anymore and they should be the easiest to tax. They can't take their resources with them and just leave the country. And we virtually give away our resources instead. Some scandinavian countries tax big business and wealthy, make nations and resource companies pay for their resources and leases and use the sovereign wealth fund it provides to make its people better off - including giving uni away to students cheaply or free.

We should be using what we have in the ground to pay for the skilled workers of tomorrow while making energy bills for today far cheaper.

You can blame the Libs for that and their scare campaign against the MRRT.

All relative. Shit things to happen and every right to feel pissed off about.

Reminds me of one the best headlines of all time.

Yeah I more meant it's unrelated but just contributed to the surreal feeling of the past week.

I think the danger in these times is that people are more attracted to the political extremes which as can be seen in the US can only make things so much worse.

The amount of people I’ve seen start thinking One Nation as a good alternative is worrying.

I definitely get the feeling that everyone is sharing. We’re still in a pretty fortunate condition all things considered but we live in a house and suburb we’d prefer not to live in.

I’ve been thinking more and more about moving bush. Problem is even house prices out there have gone nuts as well.

Anyone got a novated lease for their car? Have been looking to get a hybrid for a while (obviously last few weeks has accelerated that). I thought they were only available on EVs, but think I may be able to get one for a hybrid, and would rather it through my salary than my wife's as there's a better tax break but not sure of the ins and outs (i.e. end of lease what the cash flow implications are). Anyone have a good provider they recommend?

My wife does with Auto-ux. She got a BMW EV last year.

I know the gov was pushing EVs specifically and offering novated leases so hadn't really checked for hybrid but seems like I might be able to get one? My wife is a bit hesitant to go full EV haha likes the safety net of a tank of petrol.

No FBT benefit with a hybrid apparently
