That's something at least.

Why would I pick a car purely based on looks? You can easily find one that looks good and performs.
You just said an issue you have with EVs is how they look?

I'd be shocked if that were the case. Service costs on an ev compared to a hybrid or ICE are virtually nil.

Instead of being 'shocked', why don't you just put your personal scenario into an AI and see the comparison.

What is the purchase price of an EV to a comparable hybrid? What is the relative depreciation? How many kms are you doing? How many cars can you charge at your town house?

No one's trying to take cars from car enthusiasts? Just saying for daily commuting EVs win on every metric other than noise emission.
No one said anyone was trying to take any cars, was merely talking preferences.

I don't feel the need to 'win' in absolutely every aspect of life. I can live with an ICE being more expensive etc.

Honestly, I'd get rid of my car tomorrow and just ride a motorbike everywhere if it wasn't for the kids. Even cheaper again. And far more fun.

Does anyone else on here ride a motorbike? I swear that's one of the most exhilarating experiences I'll ever go through. Nothing beats a long winding corner at good speed.

I did while researching options when initially looking at what to buy. So again, I would be shocked.

My ev cost 53k, the hybrid Rav 4 was about 12k more. Jaecoo ev is maybe 35k. I have no idea what numbers or scenarios you're specifically looking at but none of your numbers stack up.

We could install a charger in every single car spot in our complex and charge about 80 cars concurrently.

Hybrid Rav 4 can be as low as $46k.

The numbers to input are - relative purchase prices, kms per year, can you charge at your town house. It will factor in deprecation, fuel costs, service costs.

Cheapest I'm seeing is 51k, which is about 1-2k different to my ev, and about 15k more than a Jaecoo. Then factor in servicing, petrol, etc.

What do you mean by "can you charge at home"? There are free public chargers too if need be.

Has anyone on here been headhunted before?

I must get something about every 6 months but it's normally for a crap role, paying even worse coin.

This week's opportunity seems surprisingly good.

Is this just the typical linked in crap or a call?

Kinda, yeah.

A former colleague got me a job at the company he worked for - was an 18K salary increase.

With the rego rebate thing - when is it for? Mine was in Feb, and our other car is end of this month. Are we elligible?

As long as you've paid your rego up until 30th June you get it I believe.

Yes a few times. Only move on if your unhappy is my policy.

You should be, but just go through the process even if you’re not sure. It takes 2-3 minutes.

Chat:GPT is good for this sort of stuff. I got it to compare the total costs of a Tesla Model Y to a RAV4 GX Hybrid over 10 years.

At 10,000 km/year, the RAV4 is likely to be about A$2,500–3,000 cheaper. At 15,000 km/year it's about break-even. At 20,000 km/year you're ahead with the Tesla.

I got it to consider depreciation. It's more unpredictable but past trends have EVs depreciating more than hybrids. It could be a bigger factor than the higher initial price and energy costs. It cited a 'reasonable estimate' that the RAV4 might have a 10-year cost advantage of A$5,000–15,000 over a Model Y at 10,000 km/year. And of course there's no range anxiety with a hybrid.

I don't think this is a useful or valid comparison.

The Tesla Model Y is a vastly better car in terms of performance and features than the RAV4, and would be competing with the likes of BMW, Audi, and Lexus. The EV comparators for the RAV-4 would be low-mid range options like the BYD.

If you ask AI to look at "costs over a 10 year period for comparable vehicles on performance and features for the average driving distance of 15,000km/year", this is what it spits out:

Pretty shocking what happened to Henry Nowak, UK appears to be at a tipping point.
Theres a lot in the press and people in certain political/lobby groups stoking the flames.

Stuff like this is a godsend for them.

That's a fair argument. So the RAV comes in a little more over 10 years than the BYDs. I don't know which AI you used but when I asked Chat:GPT to factor in depreciation it came in as the biggest cost and would tip the balance back towards the hybrid.

Talking of Jaecoos. The latest EV inferno destroyed 33 Jaecoo E5s at Southampton docks. EVs don't set on fire more often than ICE cars but when they go they go big. And the smoke is so toxic that it can cause chemical burns on contact with skin. Imagine that in a covered apartment block or shopping centre car park.

Yes, absolutely this Jatz

I was happy at my job but I felt like I couldn't grow much further, and it seemed like a good opportunity etc, and the money helped.

It didn't work out for me - I hated the new job after about 2 months and would wake up on a Monday wanting it to be Saturday.

Thankfully I had the opportunity to return to my old job after 9 months.

I almost did that last year, was happy but not happy/felt like my pathway was clogged with a top heavy system and didn't feel appreciated for my talents/level that I was at (I bounced around a lot as a younger person and never quite got into what I wanted to do til I made it to Ireland - so I'm a bit older than others at my level).

Got offered a new job, more money, weighed it up. Talked to the bosses here and once they realised my concerns I was given more of what I wanted in terms of responsibility and happy I stayed. Except for the fact I have to drive to Athlone once a week for the new few months.
