Got no dog in this fight, but hunting for spots/trophy with no real intention to eat the animal like a lion who is endangered is very different to hunting animals for food like cows and chicken

The common theme though mate is the assumed ownership of its life. Animals also have an innate will to live.

Taking the decision to put them to death without its consent is what the main parralel is.

We'll disagree there coz I don't think the decision to put them to death without its consent is really the issue, it's more like the reason and the value in which they are put to death that's more of where I'm going for.

If we're talking about the whole angle of death with consent then I think even pet euthanasia would be dodgy, coz even in suffering an animal instinctively doesn't wanna die. And the whole thing with invasive species where you need to basically mass genocide a particular overgrown specie in order to preserve others, with the whole death by consent thing we wouldn't be able to do that as well

As much as I want compassion and love for all animals and stuff, I don't think that's how nature and evolution has really designed itself to work like that, I think in the end it's all about utilitarianism and weighting whether the death of something is beneficial or pointless/harmful. I'm more of the camp where if you are gonna harvest animals for food, you must give them a full comfortable life and a painless death, not the current abhorrent conditions they're living in

Yep that last line is something I used to tell myself often mate. But in reality it was just something say to make myself feel better.

The main point at hand though is that there's enough food, grain, water etc grown across the world to comfortably feed ~14 billion.

Instead, the majority of this is fed to animals whilst hundreds of millions starve and die. This imbalance is disgusting and will be condemned long after we all have passed.

I hear this mentioned quite often, but I must confess I'm no expert on this one. Supposedly, chickens need to eat their own shells afterwards (something to do with some nutrients in the shells that need to be redigested).

Again, I'm not entirely sure but consuming their eggs prevents them from having that.

Yes mate. We have a few adopted bunnies that were saved from slaughter and animal testing. They're such harmless creatures, very fun to have around the house. My son loves them.

Was at first devastating to see their mistrust and fear of humans after what we've done to them. But over time, they have become more and more fond of us.

The answer to your first question is a bit more difficult. Irrespective of their cause of death, there's no absolute need to consume it's flesh given we've now evolved to a level where we have choices.

Hundreds of years ago, in the wild, of course it's different. It's a matter of survival. But in the developed first world we live in, it's not.
So if you gave them the egg shells afterwards that might be ok? Genuinely curious about all this.

I'd probably say so, yes mate. There's another discussion though regarding the need to eat eggs/health issues etc. But some militant vegans would be against the entire idea but I'm not one of the militant ones.

Hey TurtleBots do you reckon I should poke the bear by getting Rabs to retell his response to the vegan he met ;)

you didnt answer me qu what does she feed her ckickens?
All sorts of scraps and left overs, as well as grain and stuff like that.

I know im gonna come across as a total dick probably but im just being honest.

The main two reasons why I would never go vegan are....

1 - too much effort.
2 - vegan food tastes gross.

It's mainly number one though. The amount of time and effort you need to put into sorting out what you can and cant eat and making meals accordingly etc just isnt in me. I just cant be bothered.

I cant do my job without butter and eggs, so the less vegans the better for me:D

Have you ever tried any alternatives to dairy etc? You'd be amazed. Some of cakes/cookies etc I sometimes give to me team at work has them staggered. They wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I'm guessing it's probably just some more try hard and heroic vegan bashing that I've heard countless times.

Points 1 and 2 are completely wrong Jod. It's a very limiting belief to dismiss it so simply. As for food, it might surprise you to hear but I don't think of it as any effort at all. I simply view it as minimising the harm I've caused others with my choices.

And after over coming cancer not once, but twice, there's no way I'd be stupid enough to poison myself with the same shit that caused it in the first place.

Fair enough mate, everyone is different.

Oh and point 2 cant be wrong. You cant tell me what i think tastes gross and what tastes good. I dont like sprouts, to me they taste gross. You cant tell me that's wrong. :p

To each their own. I'll continue to eat big juicy steaks with a grin on my face.

Who eats sprouts? That's perhaps where you're doing it wrong :D

I'm predicting your grin might be wiped if you had the courage to see where that's come from (but would doubt you'd bother as its easier to take pot shots instead).

They'll never get the essential amino acid they need from plant protein unfortunately, and protein's like everything they need

There are actually some vegan pet foods that have emerged in recent years that cover this. However never got the chance to try it unfortunately, our dog passed away a few years before I made the change.

I know how they kill animals, I will still enjoy red meat. Would love to know what pot shot I made. All I'm seeing is Vegan 101. Tell everyone why they should convert over and over again. You knowing the saying "preaching to the converted" well you're preaching to the never going to be converted.

You're a vegan, no problems there, I don't really care, it doesn't bother me. I continue to have some form of meat for dinner most nights, like most people do.

That's fair enough, although I don't do commercial pet food if I can help it, they're all terrible. Dogs and cats are all wired to eat meat anyhow so I think it's healthiest for them to eat it

I dunno how the human body works when it comes to plant protein but we can probably eat plant protein to get the essential stuff.

Don't particularly care if you perceive it as preaching. Just pointing out your hypocrisy whereby you seem to be "grinning" at the cruelty, death and slaughter of one form of life (ie, a cow) but then appear quite angry at another (a lion).

Interesting. Always find it curious to observe how people's opinions shift based on their own convenience. If you watch Earthlings, you might be surprised.
